What's the name of this airplane?

Yep. POA member has one...they're really slow. :D

Been one sitting out at FGU for at least 10 years. Dunno what the story is with it.

Outside? Never seen it. Buy it man!

Looks like one on the SW corner of the field.

Yea it’s moved around. Sits on the south end of 3. Need to find out the story on it. Looks like it needs a fair amount of work on the inside.

Looks like I’m heading to KFGU soon! Can’t believe someone is letting it sit outside. The one the OP is talking about belongs to Andre best I can tell. Really friendly guy from Canada. He also has an LS1 powered Seabee. I know he was headed down to Florida for the AOPA flyin.

Yes, I have seen a few before. They are U-Haul trucks, very handy at times..

What.?? Oh, the plane in front.....

Uhaul makes airplanes? sign me up. The useful load and cheap to rent will be a game changer. ;)

Did he fly from Canada to attend the AOPA fly in? That would be an awesome trip.

Didn't know this airplane is a retractable gear.

Yeah the one (Venture) pictured does. The Questair Spirit is a FG. I think the Venture is the more popular model from what I've seen.

Reminds me of a Swearingen SX300, especially with that gear.

Yeah they do look similar, only the Venture is faster! IIRC, I believe the Venture is the fastest cruising single engine piston airplane.

To give an idea of how fast these airplanes are:

lol.. yeah, my mind went straight to the F-18 when I saw it.

Yes he did. He is quite the Adventurer.

Don’t cuss it like that. Much better then a SX300. More roomy, similar speed but less fuel burn (280 hp vs 310 for the SX300). Much better handling and lower stall.

I think there are a few turbo charged planes that will out run the Venture at altitude though a Venture turned up to 310hp will probably match them.

And that plane in the video looks familiar ;)

If the perf specs are as stated, why aren't they built in earnest the way RVs are? Honest question. I saw one modified to fixed gear on YT, seemed a nice compromise.

They are extremely difficult to build. Took 10 years and over 6,000 hours to build mine. Two gentlemen own the rights to the design and tooling now and are trying to restart it starting with the Spirit version. There are a few Ventures with different landing gear configurations. Some with fixed gear, some with fixed main and retracting nose gear. The Spirit was a fixed gear 2+1 seating and continental IO-360engine.

I think Vans just did better marketing of a low cost kit with excellent customer service. I think for most folks, they don't want to take on a complex, costly, high performance kit. The 2 seat high performance (Glasair3,Berkut540,SX300,Legacy) arena has never has been all that popular.

Must have moved that Venture at FGU inside. Wasn't there this AM.
