757 vs bird

The closing velocity between the two made for a sizable dent, that’s for sure. Glad the bird decided to hit the nose and not a fan.

A fan? How about the players themselves? Who cares about the fans? Think about the poor players!!

Oh, the engine fans. Nevermind.

I was expecting a dent but that's a friggen' DENT. Anyone know what's in the nose cone of a 757 these days? What effect could that have had on any systems to worry the pilots? Would the pax have even been aware?

The Radome is located there. Damage could cause erroneous weather radar echoes or impairment of the system completely, if it’s severe enough.

Just to fan the fire...

I've never seen a bird impact an a radome look like that, and I've seen quite a few of them.

I'd say that radome had an improper repair.

No blood, no guts, not even a smear. Somebody may have some splainin to do

Seems like the crew would really have to exceed some structural limitations for the composite to cave like that, would they not?

I think it just demonstrates the strength of the composite material to withstand that impact, nothing more or less.

Thas’ an easy one. Just attach an air chuck and reinflate...

What are those things made out of? I'd think that something that Radar could get through would be brittle and 'crack.' The way it 'bends' it looks like aluminum. This ain't passing the logic check with me, but then I don't know much about it. To me, composites are all just 'plastic.'

On our jets they were composite of some type, I'd guess the same for a 757.

What's the 757 cruise at? F = A x P
It's a honeycomb core, I can see this type failure if repaired incorrectly.

Bird strike. That's our story and we are sticking with it.

In other news, a big dent was found in the wall of the terminal where a charter jet carrying the Thunder players had earlier parked.....

Disturbed airflow over the nose can affect the pitot static systems. This could cause issues with reliable airspeed and cockpit warning systems that take inputs from the pitot system.

To be precise, it's a fiberglass fabric, epoxy resin, nonmetalic honeycomb sandwich :)

Was it a drone bird? :D

Or maybe one of the Thunder players missed the slam-dunk.

So a good sized bird ,decided to attack a major NBA team?

A bird at 30,000' hit the 757 nose, perfectly centered with no noticeable blood or guts anywhere else? I call shenanigans. I agree with two n Glenn.

I hit a raven once at 30 feet agl. It didn't even leave a dent in the wing and I could not find any bird residue at all..... except for the body.

I was only doing about 110K at the time though.

In Alaska ravens are given high respect. The local belief is they are reincarnated elders..... my apologies for wiping out grandpa....
