TGIFS Thank God its Football Season

Say ole CK didn't sit last year for oppression of his people and police violence against blacks. Let's say he was a Neo Nazi and instead of sitting, actually was standing and giving the Neo Nazi salute during the Anthem. This, for all his Neo Nazi brothers being oppressed in America. You can darn well bet that the NFL and those currently supporting his freedom of speech, which technically he doesn't have, would shut him down in a heart beat.

The NFL needs to stop playing good vs bad and just ban any type of demonstration or protest during "work hours." Personally, I think they need to modify their policy and allow anyone that doesn't want to participate in the Anthem to stay in the locker room. If you're going on the field then you show respect to the flag by standing as the law says one should.

Marcus Peters sat it out, like he usually does, and the fans said, "...home of the CHIEFS!" like they always do, and the Earth kept spinning.

Cooter, no disrespect, but I really don't care how they feel. Been a fan since the early 60s and I'm done with the NFL. Hopefully college FB doesn't get the same way but it probably will.

Perhaps you should give Lingerie Football an ogle.

The majority of them are protesting Trump.

What's the evidence of that? The protests began before Trump was elected. I'd like to hear some of them state, specifically and in detail, just what it is they're protesting.

Black oppression and police killing blacks at an alarming rate.

Some have said they are protesting "in support of" other players that are protesting for something.

What is black oppression? What is the evidence that police are killing blacks at an alarming rate? How does that rate compare to non-blacks?

Yep, and you won't find anyone, especially CK, that will give any specifics on the matter.

I have a friend who is a supporter and last Sunday while watching football I asked them to give specific laws in this country that oppress the black population as a whole...crickets. "Well, the protest is mostly about police violence against blacks." Of course they had no idea that twice as many whites are killed than blacks. Yes, per capita, blacks are killed at a higher percentage but when you factor in they cause roughly 52 % of all homicides. When they represent only 13 % of the population, the numbers make sense. After that my friend said that no killing is acceptable. That's total BS also. First, out of roughly 1000 police killings per year, the vast majority are justified. Considering the police have between 40-50 million interactions with the public every year, I'm surprised the killings aren't even greater.

I use the military as an analogy when referencing police killings. It's completely understandable that when they deploy to combat, innocent civilians are going to get killed. They get killed either by accident, or on the rare cases, killed intentionally. That doesn't detract from the military as a whole. For me personally, I don't kneel for anthem because of My Lai, I stand because of Valley Forge, Belleau Wood, Normandy, Khe Sanh, etc.

Too many focus on the negative at the expense of doing injustice to the positive.

What kind of evidence would satisfy you regarding social actions and reactions.

The fact of the matter is that the number of players "taking a knee" during the Anthem was in single or low double digits. After Trump opened his mouth (twitter account), that number immediately jumped into the hundreds. Cause and effect can be difficult to pin down, but it looked pretty causal to me.

The question was; "What is the evidence that police are killing blacks at an alarming rate?" I'm looking for reliable numbers.

That was one of your questions, but that wasn't the question you asked of me, and which I answered.
edit: Oh, I see what happened. I failed to quote the post of yours that I was answering. Sorry.

The evidence is that blacks are doing the killing themselves.

Black males between the ages of 14 and 17 commit homicide at ten times the rate of white and Hispanic male teens combined. Blacks of all ages commit homicide at eight times the rate of whites and Hispanics combined, and at eleven times the rate of whites alone.

I think it’s stupid and don’t agree why they’re taking a knee but they are allowed to do it. The owners are also free not to sign a scrub player like Kaep. I was never into football anyway so this whole protest thing is kind of just flying over my head.

The media is kind of funny.

*zoooommmmggggg Trump should focus on more important issues than picking on poor defenseless NFL players*

Also the media.

*zooooommmgggg blacks are being oppressed and need a voice*

So which one is it? They say should focus on more important things. So black oppression isn’t important?

PS. I’m a minority. I have never been oppressed.

Kevin Harlan lives in KC and is one of the greatest.announcers.ever. This is one of his calls last year (turn it up to 11):

I'm not a Dolphin fan but while watching some of the pregame shows yesterday one analyst had Cutler all summed up. He said "if Cutler is your quarterback, RUN THE BALL!!!!!"
Don't remember who it was but he hit the nail on the head, specially with Cutler's stats from Sunday!

And on a sad note for the older generation out there, Y A Tittle died, age 90. He was fun to watch.

We figure that out about Cutler in Denver a long time ago. :)

Not interested in watching a bunch of thugs
Especially since they started spitting on our flag

I saw that too. Wow, 90 after all the hits he took. I remember as a kid watching the '61 and '62 NFL Championship games which he and the Giants lost to Lombardi's Packers both years. RIP YA.

Been a Packer fan since the Lombardi years and I haven't watched a game in 3 weeks now. Unsubscribed to all the Packer emails I get too. Done with it, don't know if I'll ever go back. I did read that some of the Michigan players did it last Sat, and there's a kid at one of the Birmingham area HSs that does it! So it's filtered down to the HS level now. Sickening.

I am wondering where will I go to escape the relentless noise of politics.........For much of my life it has been sports. I don't care if everyone protests, but can I just watch the game? I may even agree with you........after the game, can I just watch the game? I cant go anywhere, read anything, watch anything without someone protesting, someone being offended, someone apologizing without sincerity, one side or the other of every debate decrying, belittling, name calling the other side. I am truly sick of it. Even here, just look at the Nazi female pilot thread.....this place is starting to suck too. Yeah, I know I can ignore a thread, yeah I know I can not open a web page, yeah I know I can change the channel. I know....but can I just watch the damn game?

Not these days Mike. Sad state of affairs. I quit watching ML Baseball years ago when the players went on strike, and now I'm not watching the NFL. So far college FB for the most, at least the teams I watch, has not had much of the protests, but I'm sure it's coming.

Jay Cutler is the all-time Bears leader in passing yards. I realize that's not saying a lot as the Chicago Bears still seek to replace Sid Luckman.

Sometimes painful.

Re: Cutler. And what was his ratio of td/int's! Been a Bear fan for over 50 years.
Cutler never showed me anything. Where are the championships, Super Bowl's?
Bears have always been a running team but it would sure be nice to have a QB that can complete a pass to our side with some degree of regularity. Trubisky showed signs last night we may finally have one. Time will tell. Cutler should have stayed retired but then again was not looking forward to hearing him on Fox. But there is always the mute button.;)

I was saddened by Jay's departure from the Bears.

Can't wait to see what happens when it becomes a -requirement- to stand during the anthem.

First Ammendment doesn't guarantee ALL kinds of speech, and ALL times. Furthermore, a very important message is lost on me, and millions like me, when it takes the form of disrespecting both the national anthem and the nation's flag. Just remember this: just because a person doesn't feel that they are being disrespectful in their view, it doesn't mean they are not being disrespectful--in this case, in the view of millions of Americans.

http://remingtonresearchgroup.com/surveys/NFL_9-25-17.pdf

From the survey:

Q6: Do you think NFL players should stand and be respectful during the national anthem?
Yes: 64%
No: 24%
Unsure: 12%
Q9: Do you support protesting during the national anthem at the beginning of NFL games, or is there a
more appropriate place for players to protest?
Support: 31%
There is a more appropriate place to protest: 60%
Unsure: 9%

Can't wait to see what happens when it becomes a -requirement- to stand during the anthem.
My question is "who" do you think will require it? I am totally against the government requiring it.

But if the fans get mad enough to make it felt in the advertisers and teams pocketbooks, resulting in team or league rules to require it (standing), then I am perfectly happy with that.
