Gaston's Fly-In 2017 - Thursday Oct 12-Sunday Oct 15, 2017

Yes, the Google link takes you to a spreadsheet listing who is attending and what is needed for dinners.

Oh man, the number of people that aren't making it this year - sigh. Wait, maybe @bbchien ?

Looking forward to getting together with everyone, hoping some no's becomes yes', and hope we make it in before o'dark thirty. We will round out food once we get there as all this beer is threatening to throw off the W&B :)

Oh and a point of advice, FBO at KBPK has changed hands to Big Air (I think they were open last year), cheap fuel and super friendly service. Give a call ahead if you need a tie down after hours and they will take care of you. I got caught in snow storm (in AR WTH?) and they pulled me into the hangar, lit up the radiant heaters and I was on the way in a couple hours. Awesome guys.

I made sure to personally invite him. Turns out he has a professional obligation that conflicts and trumps hanging out with us pilot scrubs.

Good game Sat Mike. A&M played well and especially good the 2nd half.

This year may not set records for attendance, but we'll have a good time. I'm definitely looking forward to getting to know those I haven't met before and BSing with those I have. Sue and I are planning on an early Friday afternoon arrival, but the nice thing about your own plane is that the schedule isn't so important. Based on the forecast I'm bringing my bathing suit in case the pool beckons. See you all at Gaston's.

Don't crash into the bluff on Base and don't hit the power lines on the base to final turn.

Or on a go-around. Just mentioning that for the newbies. Normally folks depart the other direction as wind allows.

2017 planning looked a lot different earlier this year. The plan was both OSH and Gaston’s. The plan didn’t survive first contact with the enemy, nor the rest of the war of 2017.

Some day I hope to do this. Maybe after I get the IR. Of course, that has to wait for my aircraft to get some avionics...

Has anyone noticed that thing that we are forbidden to discuss may or may be changing from what may or may not have been predicted assuming anyone had looked at it prior which I know nobody would and stuff?

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?

Certain people that may have done some "continuing education" may well not be affected by this thing except for Gastons lacks a lot of technical advances which is neither here nor there for pilots that accomplished their childhood dream and stopped there because they don't need to prove they can aviate regardless of what the [radio edit] throws at them.

What year was it that we had the gusty tailwind departing Sunday morning? That was quite the ride getting out...

Weather Underground reporting Friday and Saturday looking good. Sunday afternoon will be lots of cloud cover....

Looks like we picked a good time for having an IFR ticket

oh, ok, so we're talking about it, maybe I didn't get it.....

Imma keep an eye on that which should not have been named but it might just be a one nighter for us if the trend continues.

The VFR peeps will be good to go on Sunday afternoon. Trust me.

If not, I may need to get someone to Xerox their IFR ticket and hook me up with a copy so I can get home.

Anyone know how well the runway sheds the wet stuff? Chance of wet stuff exists... may need to monitor chance of it and make decision to reposition to BPK

Pretty dry around here - anything that falls will likely be absorbed or run off - not withstanding a thunderstorm that parks itself over the runway ...

By the way - have my eye on the weather. It will likely change once or twice more before Saturday - but I'm not IR yet either. (The plane has a lot of IMC experience with another pilot - I'm the limiting factor.)

Yeah looking like Sunday morning garbage, but hey if you sleep in, it could be gone by noon or something.

Well, tomorrow's the day! I just checked the sign-up, and I am nervous about the limited amount of people signed up to bring food. It looks like there are several saying they are coming Friday but have not said what they are bringing. The organizer in me is stressing! How do we get people to sign up? B and I happy to pitch in, but he spends most of our money on AvGas, so we are limited on funds for food.

For the low number of people, and the simple food we are preparing, it all looks okay to me. And there is still time for afternoon food runs into town. So after folks arrive, and the commestible collections start piling up, you can see what is missing and send someone to fetch.

Sorta describes us all.

For the atmosphere phenomenon that will not be named... as usual, the forecast has changed since reviewing yesterday. The wet stuff will happen in early AM, and clear to mostly cloudy partly by the afternoon time when folks depart.

Looks like I'll be there about 11:30.

I'm trying to remember what I brought last time I went - buns or something like that. I could bring about anything - but struggling with some ideas. I could get a few 12 packs of drinks of some kind...

I will have a cooler of waters and soft drinks for our runway gathering spot.

Don't let it stress you out, Eren. We'll be fine. We're never far from a grocery store.

I'm going to run to the store in a little bit, and I'll let you know exactly what I'm bringing.

At least you guys can buy Avgas. I'm so poor that I haul a 55 gal drum down to Love's for my airplane gas. ;)

Added Plates, bowls, napkins, utensils, paper towels to my contribution.

Lots of food offerings, but that was about to be overlooked.

I checked the unmentionable and it is improving.
I need to stop checking it.

I'm giddy. I just loaded up my Garmin with flying music. John Denver, Lynard Skynard, Buddy Holly, Stevie Ray Vaughn.
Also a great book on tape; biography of John Kennedy Jr. Should be a great flight!!!

I have several CDs of music from westerns that I've ripped, I like those sometimes when flying high over our great land.

May as well add We are Marshall so you can watch an in-flight movie.

Looks like lots more of the non liquid unmentionable factor on Sunday.
Should be exciting. @Mrs. SixPapaCharlie got to see a luck to skill bag transfer as we were leaving last year.
There was some praying going on when we landed in Huntsville for fuel.

At least this year we will be in a far less capable plane. It's gonna be fine hun.
