Gaston's Fly-In 2017 - Thursday Oct 12-Sunday Oct 15, 2017

You school sucks sweaty balls. We never hold midterms on weekends.
Thursday isn’t a weekend, but I have a final on a Friday, and I don’t even have class on Friday. I’d probably go up for Sat/Sun if I had someone that has been there before with me.

Fancy 210 pilots get a kitchen and some basic cookware and a fork I think. We can cook stuff.

I don't think we need a money jar. cept maybe for the trip to the store for additional stuff.

I will have a money jar for Grumman speed mods but that is separate.

So they lock you into your sweaty balls licking school after your finals. Like I said, it really sucks. My students go and do what they want after their finals. Sucks for you.

I'm in. Spread sheet updated.

Any tips from those that have flown in other than land 24 and depart 6?

I don't think he's a commercial pilot. Ba dum dum

Thanks, I'll be here all week.

Fly the dam visual approach. There’s a plate around here somewhere.

It’s pretty easy in/out. For flatlanders the terrain can seem like a problem but the runway is never out of sight for us low wingers. Hitting your landing spot is always a handy skill but there’s plenty of length.

And land as slow as you can so you won't have much speed on your ground roll. Otherwise, the slight bump in the middle will send you airborne again when you least expect it.

Lots of power lines cross the valley, so it looks like this:

So keep in mind, that it takes balls to safely fly into Gastons

Looking for the image in my previous post found this image..... had to share...

Yeaaah, I carried a little extra speed in there last Saturday and can attest to the launch potential.

Reference the slight bump in the middle, does it go across the whole runway? Better to be off-set slightly one way or the other?

It goes across the whole thing as far as I know. Would be hard to offset anyway due to the trees you have to fly between to hit the threshold.

That's what it seems to me. I've watched a few videos of arrivals and departures. While I've landed at a lot of grass runways, even in a C401 many years ago, I haven't in my 310 so just wanted to ask. See ya'll in a little over a week!

Why don't they grade that sucker down level with the rest of the strip? Y'all could do it yourself after midnight when you're drunk senseless couldn't ya?

Naaaa, It serves as a handy launch point when departing.

I have a slow leak in my nose will so I'll be bringing a bicycle pump. I didn't get the extended warranty

When my nose leaks, I just use a hanky or a tissue. Installing a Schrader valve and using a bike pump seems to be overkill

Hope you all have a great time and that J and Wife catch lots of trout. I will miss being there.

I'll fly out Saturday AM. I haven't paid a lot of attention to what might be needed food wise. Anything I need to bring? I'll be flying out before dark so adult beverages are out for me.

Just let me know or point me to the list (was it on the google link- I'm iPhoning it at the moment.)

So far, I'm only bringing vegan jerky :)
