Today my wife's iphone started ringing anytime I get a call on mine. It also rings on mine. Neither one of us admits to making any sort of change and I have no idea where to look to separate them.

Any ideas?

Go to settings, phone, calls on other devices. Then turn it off.

We had that problem with texts. You probably share an iTunes account.

Happened to my husband with his personal phone and work phone. Turned out they were set up with the same iCloud account.

I absolutely detest apple and iPhone/ iPads. Right now I'm dealing with the constant pop up asking me to sign in to my iTunes account. Some googling tells me I can fix this by installing the latest iOS updates and then reboot. I don't want to do that right now, I like to wait a bit for bugs to be worked out before updating. It also constantly reminds me that my iCloud storage is full don't I want to send money to them and buy more storage? No I do not so leave me alone. It won't leave me alone.

My next laptop was going to be apple because I hate Microsoft. But not now. We really need the rise of a better operating system overlord to compete with these two.

Apple has gone insane with trying to make things easy for you. Every time I walk out to the hangar with my phone (I have wifi in my hangar) my laptop in the house switches to the hangar wifi - which it can barely make a connection to, so my laptop has crap connectivity until I figure out the issue and switch it back.

Exactly. Many of the problems are caused by it making assumptions about what you are doing and taking actions without consulting you. It wouldn't be so bad if they provided ways to tweak settings and customize for yourself but they have minimized your ability to do that. Drives me nuts.

I signed on to iTunes once when I activated my very first I phone in 2012. Prior to that I had bought my first iPad that I don't recall ever connecting to itunes (I recall activating it over McDonald's wifi at lunch). Five years and 2 more ipads and a 2nd iphone later, I've never logged onto itunes a second time, and I never get bugged about it.

Yeah, Apple has forced me back into the MS camp.
First it was the iPhone, it wanted to be anything but a phone. And what did I want, a phone....
Next was the iPad, I switched to an Android tablet. Now likely to switch to a Windows Surface for the next one...
Finally now the Mac, ordered a new computer and I am running Windows for my primary desktop (in a week, parts still not all here).

I have only used Mac since they went Intel, so about 15 years. But they make to hard for me to work.

Major reason for Windows, is some software I use only supports Windows and Mac. So you have to pick....

That is the only reason I'm not using Linux.

iTunes accounts/AppleIDs are not and never were designed to be shared between individuals. Accept it. If you do it anyway, you will most likely have problems with your devices. I agree that “calls on other devices” is likely the culprit here. Separating AppleIDs will resolve the problems with calls, texts, and other odd behaviors.

As for the “iCloud full” messages, that may be due to iCloud backups being enabled, with a lot of content on the phone (usually photos/videos). These will typically be backed up along with the phone, unless you specifically disable photo backups in the iCloud Backup settings on the phone. Apple only provides 5GB of free iCloud space, and that is easy to fill with not many photos and videos. Alternatively, you can periodically backup the phone to iTunes on your PC.

Problem is a lot of families share music between members. Apple did not encourage/allow for such things. Hence my brother bought three copies of the same song, once for him, once for his wife, once for his kids....
So many people used a single apple ID for everyone and used playlists to mange the individual users library.
And Apple knew this, based on discussions with the CSR I had when dealing with my wife and kids accounts.
So before screwing up everyone's lives, did they worn you? Did they provide any tools to help? Any migrations... No. Let's just f*** with the consumer and believe that we know better and the consumer will just continue to pay and believe we are god.

Buy CDs off amazon for $4.99 ($1 used, or less, $3.99 shipping). 10 tracks, $0.50 a track. Rip. Now you have a lossless master from which to go to any device / format you'd like.

(Yeah, yeah, I know... but it works for me across multiple phones, tablets, the car, the HTPC, etc. Problems with iTunes? I know how to fix it good. :) )

Apple has permitted sharing of DRM-protected music downloaded from iTunes for many years. Also, I believe that Apple ended DRM protection for music several years ago.

Family Sharing for other content is a more recent—but not very recent—addition.

I will agree that Apple hasn’t always implemented these capabilities very well, and you can’t share everything (like your kids’ text messages), but it’s tough to blame Apple for end user ignorance. These capabilities were publicly announced and it is relatively easy to find out how to configure them.

As a counterpoint, despite occasional aggravations, Karen and I find our iPhones, iPads, Macs and AppleTV work pretty seamlessly together, and via Bluetooth to various non-Apple devices and our Ford Flex. We pay $14.95/month for Apple Music family plan, that also works across devices.

When there is a hiccup, we can usually resolve it with a visit to Google.

Stipulated there's probably nothing we do with our iDevices that an Android device can't do at least equally well. But we're content in the Apple Ecosystem.

As an aside, we've both been liking iOS 11 so far - its an elegant upgrade that makes quite a few little things easier.

Now that 11.0.1 is out, I may pull the trigger. I never upgrade on 1st release, usually wait for the first bug fix before upgrading.

It is always funny how the Apple fandom comes to the rescue or apology that oh that was a long time ago.
The vast majority of Apple users I know started with an iPhone or iPhone 3. So those habits and repercussions were setup a long time ago.
And no, Apple has not been good about announcing what is going to happen. They blather about the new features but never the implications. So unless you are a techie, you will not get it...

I feel ya.. I upgraded my phone to iOS 11 and my watch to WatchOS4 on release day.. Now my friggin watch defaults to the music screen when I am listening to music in the car on my phone.. The damn radio puts the name of the track up on the screen. I don't need it on my damn wrist too.
