6Y9 Fly In 2017

Not much call for Sr. Sasquatch. Kids today just don't spend much time in the woods.

Just got word our office is closing at noon on Friday.
Looks like I will modify my plan to fly straight there Fri afternoon.

So Nate, will you take a break from posting and come fly out to visit???

Nope. Already covered why.

Friend (and co-worker and glider pilot... threw that last one in there for you, BTW...) who had the surgery is doing very well but his energy levels are fluctuating wildly.

One minute he's bored and online and logging into office stuff to poke at problematic things, the next he needs a nap for an hour or two.

It's kinda entertaining. I can be chatting with him on Slack one minute and the next he doesn't reply and about two hours later he does. Ha.

Other than that, he's feeling better every day, he says.

Anyway, have fun up in the YouPee... ;)

Saw Diz and Brad last weekend. Really looking forward to driving the RV up there Thursday night/Friday morning and seeing them again!

Likewise Grant and Leslie! Also hear that we will be graced with the presence of some who have promised for years to get up here...if all things continue to go well.:)

Looking forward to the repeaters and newbies. While it sounds like another great fly in on the horizon, as we plan for a fun weekend, our thoughts and prayers go out to Jay and Mary and all of those who are being affected by the hurricane.

Don't they call that an Eclipse?

Yeah, I guess it casts a shadow that looks something like this:

Wuss? Wait, what do I need to know?
Is there some sort of danger and or strife of which I am unaware?

Only if you fly a runway hog like me. While technically I can get in and out of 2600 feet of grass, I'm not sure the trees got the memo that they're supposed to stop growing at the FAA-approved 50-foot obstacle height.

But, presuming Pete can get the plane he was talking about, I do have the R182 reserved which will do just fine.

is there really a chance to see the northern lights?

Yes, there's a chance... In fact, on Friday night last year, after everyone else went to bed, they were quite spectacular!

Departing 3MY about 9am Friday. Who else is arriving Friday and who else is camping?

I am now riding w/ Spike and I am told I am sleeping in some sort of haunted school house.

I was going to try to swing it but my engine monitor installation ran into a snag. The plane won't be ready. Looks like Gaston's will be my next chance to fly in somewhere.

We're having a grand time up here! Lots of familiar faces from across the country! What is it with lawyers and Bonanzas, though? :)

I've had a lot of sociology.

Alibi, alcohol.... There it is..

I've had a lot of that.

And you got to be half a lumberjack!!!

Thank you, had a great time. Stuck at sawyer- waiting for weather to clear east of here.

Time to spare, go by air.

'Thank you' from us too!! It was nice to meet you guys - we had a blast.

The UP said goodbye to us with fireworks over St. Ignace  and we got home early this morning (2:30 am).

Detroit is severe clear and Willow Run Airport is looking forward to a sunny 'Thunder over Michigan'.

Did a splash and dash on the way home in Clintonville, was home by 10:15 CST. Great time meeting you all and thank you so much for all the hospitality!

Spike and I are getting fuel in Muskogee.
it is really hot and there is a disgusting thick brown layer of haze and it's getting all over the plane

Home in 2.4 hours via Manistique & Beaver Island. Took almost as long to clean the yooper bugs off the plane.

Great to put more faces to names. Even Kevyn's.

Thank you Brad & Diz for creating such a magical place and welcoming us all - again. Can't believe this was #12 ... :)

Home. Finally - sat out three hours in Marquette waiting for things to get marginal around the bridge... Then the phone / GPS went Tango Uniform about 120 miles from home and I resorted to the original digital moving map - index finger on a sectional.

And thank you to everyone who made this possible.

Dang... apparently I wasn't kidding when I said I'd pass you on the way home.

(digital moving map  )

Home, in Dallas.

It is so cool how we got up this morning, considerably north of Toronto (in latitude) ,had breakfast with a crowd of friends whom I love, and flew (in my own fool plane) back home to Texas.
And here I am.

Great flight.

Adam, Randy (at Land-o-Lakes) says I should tell you that you need to bring "scrapple" next time. Whatever that is.

I don't think it's kosher, but you are not a complete stickler for that.

The sun was just coming up and the fog was still burning off as I walked back from the school to my plane to depart. I was struck by the beauty of this place. Thank you again Brad and Diz for saving this place and sharing it with others. Spike..... the Bo looks pretty cool here.

THE NORTHERN LIGHTS!!!!!

Man alive. That captures it pretty well, doesn't it?

And, it is the Brad and Diz show - they bring the magic. I just showed up, and it was some of the best time I've spent.

Wow.
