Hello to all on the PoA Forums.

Today there are about 10x more control towers than when I first started flying...

Highly-controlled airspace is everywhere, and Electronic Flight Bags are all-the-rage, enabled by digital media, bandwidth, (and powered by hopefully non-exploding lithium batteries) eliminating fat, back-breaking chart and manual stuffed flight bags of days gone by...

Hand-held GPS enabled transceivers have eliminated NORDO situations, and the FAA is eliminating hundreds of VOR radio NAVAIDS that cost them ~$110M per year to maintain and operate - fear not GPS will save us all!!!

Ballistic Recovery Systems cover for failed, rivet-less composite airframes and sloppy airmanship - - - today's "air bags of the sky"

... ahhh wonderful technology protects us (hope the DPRK doesn't give us any EMP "presents.")

It's a brave new aviation world... hmmm... all tongue in cheek of course (or maybe not)...
 
Yah but...you can still crash is your angle of attack exceeds the critical angle, the FAA is still out to get you, & airplane ownership is way too expensive for everyone.

It's pretty much the same.

Well, we'll just see about that! Wait til the experts get ahold of some of your posts! Only kidding, but POA doesn't seem to respect experience the way some of the crusty old pilots may be used to around the local airport. Was the six month rule in effect back in your Navy days?? No such thing here. There's goods and bads to that, mostly good. I like the fact the newbie PP can share his experiences and opinions with the others. Honestly, I have probably learned more on here from the new pilots asking questions and sharing experiences that I have from some of the old salts.

Saddletramp - Yeah agree - am not a fan of excessive local, state, or Federal bureaucracies and regulations. Would be nice if the FAA along with all Federal agencies backed off a bit... I'd like to see more folks in GA but the resulting costs/compliance mandates are substantial, and a struggle for hard-working middle class folks.

Some folks haven't figured out that govt regulations have real cost and a chilling effect on both business and personal freedoms - and why the wife and I exited to a free-er state.
 
I can still pull an A35 out of my hangar, kick the tires, hop in and talk to nobody until after I land a couple of states away. Then again, I'm on a grass strip in the midwest...

Rediscover how the feet work and just do it!

Oh - and nowadays pictures are required by law ;)
