Cape Cod area flying?

Looking for suggestions, please. I may be on Cape Cod around the Fourth of July, based in Chatham. I would love to rent a Cessna 172 or similar, with instructor, and do a little flying around. VFR and IR student with no actual IFR. Not familiar with the airspace, flying over water I can't swim across, East Coast summer haze, or even flying at sea level!

Anyone have recommendations for airports, flight schools, instructors, etc?
Is it feasible to fly a rented C172 and CFI to Nantucket KACK?

There is a flight school at Chatham. The airspace is pretty easy to navigate, and flying to Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard or Provincetown would be lots of fun. Give "Cape Cod Flying Circus" a call. I'm based in the area (KBED), pm me if you want more info.

Definitely feasible to fly to KACK. Another fun one is Katama, a grassfield on Martha's Vineyard. As the other poster said, there is a flight school at Chatham. It's a great airport! Definitely one of my favorites to fly into... great atmosphere, friendly people, etc. Have a great trip!
 
Thanks folks! Looks like my trip isn't happening this July, but I appreciate the info and I hope to fly there soon.
 
I prefer Block Island over Marthas Vineyard, but ive heard awesome things about Nantucket. Katama is a cool airport to fly into though. Super easy to get around and Chatham airport is really nice.
 
I think KACK will be really busy on a holiday, especially as the holiday is ending. Think east coast Aspen, only flat. Nantucket is nice, but the main part of the town is not within walking distance from the airport.
 
Martha's Vineyard I found to be very boring. Nantucket was much better. Have done been to Provincetown, but is on my list.
 
One should not go to Provincetown unless they are well versed in the culture of Provincetown.

I go and I do enjoy it, but I do know what to expect.

PS- I do believe Provincetown is the shortest runway in the US to host an ILS.
Not sure if that's still the case, but it was a few years back.

Someone tried to "warn" me about this when I was talking about flying there. I said, "Look, I'm from New Orleans, I think I'll be OK. I've seen some sh*t."

Same here! There is little I haven't seen and really don't care who does what, as long as they aren't hurting anyone.
We should meet up in PVC now that you are all OFFICIALLY a pilot and stuff :)
 
Provincetown isn't bad at all. I don't know why people get all worked up over it. Been there a bunch of times with my family and always had a great time, and everyone you meet is super nice.

Back in the day when it was considered socially acceptable to openly bash gays, it was highly recommended to avoid P town if you were strait. Maybe things have changed with the times...
