Climate Change means no more flying for you after 2050

I guess they don't understand why those flights were grounded.

Besides, even the worst projections (based on modes that haven't exactly proven reliable in the past) say a few tenths of a degree over the next century. Not enough to ground 30% of flights.

More fun... from the summary of the study:

"Because air traffic volume varies across airports and may change in the future, we compute weight restriction statistics as if there were one takeoff of each aircraft type during each of the 24 h in every day across all airports."

Dying laughing here. Reminds me of the joke about the engineer asking why the blind people can't play golf at night. :)

Screamers on the left and the right are causing me to have serious hearing loss.

Say, this just might work itself out....

She goes from talking about flooding but then cites the actual cause is the increase in DA and aircraft can't get off the ground???

Max operating temp is a certification limit and has nothing to do with DA. The aircraft could be striped down and light on fuel and still have the same max temp listed in the limitations section. It was never tested above that temp so the manufacturer lists it as a limit.

same folks or descendents of the folks who predicted an ice age in the 80's and disciples of Algore who was telling us all that Fen-Wah would be ocean front property soon. based on her photo and her inability to write a cogent sentence without the use of overt or implied profanity the writer is obviously young and can be forgiven for falling for the new religion she is espousing.

If the oceans rise high enough to flood entire coastlines, then sea level will be higher, therefore takeoff performance will be better for everyone due to the new baseline. Max performance climbs for everyone!

DANG! I wish I had thought of that one! Nicely played!

To quote the little kid from the Vacation Movie remake... "Don't say stupid Sh!it."

And I just got done having a conversation with my son (new Infantry platoon leader) about who sets the command climate in HIS platoon.

"How words that mean things can mean different things to different cultures"

Maybe the climate is really going to change catastrophically in the next twenty years, but there's a global conspiracy by the chemtrail Illuminati to obfuscate it by scaremongering relentlessly so that nobody takes it seriously.

Seriously, if I wanted people to NOT take me seriously, I'd say exactly what these guys are and have been saying for the past thirty years. It's not just like they're being ineffective; they're the opposite of persuasive.

I have often wondered why manufacturers have not done the work to extended the perf charts to the higher temps experienced, (esp in summer, in Az) in order to expand airliners' capabilities. Too pricey, no gain to them? Surely they could fly with lighter loads instead of cancelling flights?

They say it will get warmer but performance will be stagnant at current levels? Even if climatic conditions were to change, we'd also have changes to aircraft performance over time too.

Just nonsense based off the cancellations in the SW earlier. No we are getting into a much cooler August, at least in the Midwest. Not shortage of mindless drivel in the media.

I suppose you have to stop somewhere. I'm sure they had a good reason for stopping their performance chart calculations at a particular temperature. It probably came down to diminishing returns - spend lot more time and money to gain more data that would be used once every 15 years at Phoenix. It's possible that newer generations of aircraft will have that data.

I read somewhere on the internet, so it must be true, that the manufacturers do have that data, they just charge for it. You know to get those data points they just add a few columns in excel and extrapolate a bit.

The problem with interpreting climatic data is the fact the the world will be warmer is both clear and incontrovertible. What isn't clear is what a warmer Earth looks like.

Probably something like this:

Globalllll warmmminggggg OMG!

I'll be 92 in 2050 if I live that long. If I do I doubt I'll still be flying so I don't really care.
I'll be 86, they can have my airplane if I still have or can remember where I parked it last!

What also isn't clear is the time frame, and also how much warmer it will get. And that's without accounting for natural climate change.
