so i had sheepskin seat covers installed in my plane recently. love them! but the thread on STCs got me thinking... do i need an STC for that? i have a printout with the fire-retardant tests etc.

what do i do? thanks!

Seat covers are not structural (AC 43B?) and nothing is needed. Would be nice to have a burn cert, but wool doesn't burn that easily.

thanks for the above link good read.now here is a question the rules apply to part 23 approved aircraft ,what about car3 aircraft like a champ?

He would be the black sheep of the family?

I know I know ...b-a-a-a-d joke.

But damn, combustible sheep jokes are tough. My whole attempt has been a woolly mess.

Even those lame ones hurt my brain. :rolleyes1: (sheepish grin)

Very contested issue. The one I tend to agree with is that on car3 aircraft is that the horizontal flame test is not required just flame resistant material is required and any atsm certified material meets the requirement. So I believe Any automotive material would be good to go.

As for leather, the only time I've seen a cow burn is on my grill! But they are sometimes heavy, so a weight and balance update is needed.

I'd still get the burn certs, it's cheap and easy and looks good in the logs, especially if you ever sell your plane

Here's an excerpt from CAR 3 regarding interior materials.

§ 3.388 Fire precautions—(a) Cabin

interiors. Only materials which are flashresistant

shall be used. In compartments where

smoking is to be permitted, the materials of the

cabin lining, floors, upholstery, and furnishings

shall be flame-resistant. Such compartments shall

be equipped with an adequate number of selfcontained

ash trays. All other compartments

shall be placarded against smoking.

so now I know why I see some older craft with a no smoking placard must get one .It is the only requirement for car 3 interiors
