15th Annual North 40 "H.O.P.S. Party" Invitation -- 1 of 3

This is your official invitation to our annual HOPS Party in the North 40 during Oshkosh Airventure. ("HOPS" stands for "Homebuilt, Owning, Piloting, and Student" -- the old rec.aviation Usenet groups that pre-date the modern internet.)

Mary and I are long-term EAAers, and this will be our 35th consecutive Oshkosh Fly-In! As always, this party will be held at our campsite in the North 40 aircraft camping area on Wednesday during the week of Airventure. This year, that will be Wednesday, July 26, 2017.

If you're wondering what it's all about, here are some pix from each year's event. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/...073741826.100000777116758&type=1&l=2c184c945a

It's laid back, fun, and allows all of us to put faces with the names we've seen on-line for years. Amelia's Landing Hotel provides the food, while "admission" is a six-pack of good beer from your hometown. Because we're from everywhere, this lets us all sample beers from all over the country. It's great fun!

How does one find this party, you ask, in a sea of aircraft? It's actually easy, with a bit of planning. Simply stop at the EAA booth at the entrance to the North 40, and either give them our name, or our N-number -- N14EG. They will vector you right in to our site.

Just remember that the EAA camping booth closes around 6 PM, so you should obtain the party location earlier in the day. (Someone usually posts it here as well.)

The party starts after the airshow ends -- we usually have a nice crowd watching the arrivals/departures that begin as soon as they reopen the airspace. Bring a chair if you can, as that's usually what runs out first.

If all else fails, look for the blood red RV-8A named "Amelia" in the North 40. It will probably be the only RV-8A out there! We also usually fly an enormously tall Texas flag over our site, so that should help to track us down, too.

Hope to see you there!

bought my ticket. Peck is doing a top overhaul on his Bonanza to be ready. I will be there if I have to bicycle or travel at Skyhawk speed. Sorry to have missed the picture last year. We were looking at a Mooney. Imagine that

Sunday through Friday this year, for me! May have to leave on Tuesday, and come back for a company event on Thursday. Details are still up in the air about it.

I need to remember this. Bringing a OSH newbie with me this year. We would be more than happy to bring up some craft brews from around Iowa!

Mmmm....craft beers.

Extra points are awarded if you cannot see through the beer.

Points are deducted if it's a painful IPA.

Like I said, coming in midweek. Actual flying day is as always weather dependent.

I'll be there again this year. Looking forward to it.

We're planning on making it to the party this year! Looking forward to meeting everyone in person.

I will try to stop by. Doubt I will have a beer to share, C.G. Probably want accept 6 beers. Lol

Mary and I spent three hours of quality time getting Amelia spruced up today.

We leave in 6.5 days. See y'all soon!

Ah, I see you're increasing the dielectric constant of the RV.

When working Fisk or the tower I always appreciated the exp's that opted for a nice visible paint scheme like your vs the normal Wisconsin summer haze white that so many little fast one's use. They can sneak up on you quick!

That '8 looks great Jay. I am envious you have the time to polish though. ;)

Mine has logged 30 hours on 11 flights in the past 22 days, and I am certain will arrive at OSH with a complete collection of every type of Midwest bug on the leading edges and nose cone.

The Navion gets washed and waxed right before the Smithsonian fly-in each year. Some years I even got a friend to do it in exchange for being allowed to fly in with me.

Let's see. We're leaving Saturday morning. But I'm on a family vacation through Tuesday and need to pick up my friend at the Atlanta airport on Friday evening. Which leaves Wednesday and Thursday to reinstall the autopilot, have the compass serviced, and reinstall it, wash and fuel the airplane, catch up at the office, cut the grass and service the pool at home, and seam seal the new tent.

I'll pack and flightplan on Friday before my friend arrives.

I probably won't get a lot done on the RV-10 this week.

Mine is nearing the finish line. Added some more air vents so waiting on the paint to dry. Got it cleaned up today, fuel and pack tomorrow and depart Saturday.

I've never wanted to be a passenger so bad that I wanted to wash a dirty airplane. LOL.

After missing last year, we'll be stopping by again this year. We'll be bringing party favors again too.

A modern day Tom Sawyer...:D

Any penalty for beer not from our home town? I don't have the useful load for three sixes (seriously lol). :(

I'll try and bring some brews, but my pal hasn't been brewing and most of the local stuff sucks. The bourbon on the other hand...

Hopefully, wheel up tomorrow @ 0700 on the trip to MECCA with a stop in OH to visit family. Then on to KOSH with a six pack each of some of the finest VT & NH brews.

Even if I am able to fit any booze in my bags, I'm not gonna lie... it'll be well gone before I get to your party! But I'll try to pick up something at the grocery there to bring.

Sounds like a typical "The Monkey is My Co-Pilot" affair...

No worries. The Pick N Save near the edge of the North 40 has a pretty extensive beer selection!

T-minus 4 days till we launch.
