Snorting his way across the USA
I almost threw a dumbbell at the television mounted in the high corner near the ceiling in the locker room at the gym today, just to shut it up.

They have it tuned to ESPN. Now preface, I am not a sports fanatic to begin with. I'll sit down for the Superbowl and the World Series, and that's generally only if local teams are involved. I do like to watch a good game from time to time. Stats? Standings? I couldn't give a crap. Call me un-American if want. I could recite Ho Chi Minh's life history, but ask me to name a major league coach in any sport and I'm drawing a blank. Let's get that out of the way.

Sports commentary is a special pet peeve/that guy of mine. Every morning, there are these two guys, a black guy and a white guy, that literally yell at each other for hours on end. Over... nothing! WTF! It is extremely annoying! Beyond that...

"You know, for that team to win today, they just need to get out and move the ball, and play better than the other team." (How insightful, captain obvious.)

"The best way to counter a strong offense, is with a good defense." (No f****g sh**.) Seriously, you could stream last season's NFL drivel over the Superbowl during this year's NBA playoffs and the applicability wouldn't be that far off save for some terminology. It all ends up sounding like a group of adults conversing in a Peanuts movie.

But these two guys, arguing over some minor, petty, insignificant trait of Player X, for them to just sit there, scream at each other, cutting each other off, non-stop, from the time I went in the shower, to the time I dried myself and left, left me dumbfounded. Who finds this entertaining? Who finds this valuable?

5/10, this guy needs to up his rant game. This is mid-week and he is showing Monday form. It looks like he got to the forum late and didn't even bother to warm up. Talk about mailing it in folks, he just wasn't here today.

What you're forgetting @Clark1961 is taking into consideration alcohol consumption and recent pre-rant warm-up posts and prior post rant cool-downs.
Sac is definitely an A player that can bring it when he needs to and you are focusing on one rant. You have to look at the poster and their career of rants as a whole.
The way you are looking at this now just disgusts me.

I'm not arguing his rant game but people paid good money to see this rant and his sponsors, his sponsors, well let's just say they aren't going to put up with many of these performances. He can rest on his laurels after he hangs them up and if he is just going to show up to get paid then it is time. It is such a shame when the performance level drops like this.

Hey I'm sitting here all fat and happy. Every since Pete Rose and Tiger Woods fell from grace, I've been flooded with sponsors.

I still say you are unfairly criticizing his performance.
All rants aren't the same. This guy is out of his comfort zone right now.
He told you straight out he doesn't know a football from shinola.

I bet if you put him in his comfort zone right now he could knock a rant out of the park if it was related to Asians, burgers, biking, or having burgers with Asians on bikes or some sort of bike made from Asian burgers.

You are judging a fish out of water performance based on fish in water history.

Take Gilligan off the island and its not going to work as well.
I feel this is an outstanding performance given the fact that he is outside his comfort zone.

so in a rant about stats you're saying we should be keeping stats on sac's rants? I'd say sac is a solid 97% ranter with the occasional off night. if sac would just kick up his defense to counter the offensive attack on his rants, his stats could increase tremendously.

btw, I'm surrounded by avid stat regurgitaters in the office (another reason I'm thrilled about not having to go into the office anymore). I enjoy sports and watch quite a bit (hockey, football, baseball, with the occasional curling thrown in for good measure) but I couldn't tell u one stat on any player in any sport. to me you're either awesome or get the bleep off my team, or if you're on an opposing team by default I hate you. those are the only stats I keep.

What on Earth are you typing about? Are you high? Are you stoned? Are you drunk? He showed up to the forum today, he chose the topic. His call all the way. If he wants to try some off-the-cuff thing then he has to put in the prep time. His call all the way as he fell flat on his face. As it is he better take a couple weeks off to let that broken nose heal and maybe folks will forget this one.

Ya know, maybe it's time for a change. You could be right (which would be amazing). Maybe a new coach would get him in the right frame of mind. Motivate him. Get him back on track with the workouts. Ya know it's all analytics these days and this rant had none of that. He needs a new game plan and a hard nosed technician to get things going his way again.

I just can't help but disagree. I see 31 Rants to date and all are in my opinion gold.

I am reviewing the film from the last 6 or 7 and I find nothing but win.
And I am sorry to say it, in this one, I see a rising star.

What do I see below? Nothing but a whole lot of win.

Take off the rose colored glasses. I just got off the phone with Deli Smith over at Nike and they just aren't happy. He was on his way to lunch so I didn't get many details but it it sounded like they are jumping to that kapernick guy. Sac's days are numbered.

That's probably Shannon Sharpe's show. He's very intelligent and that show format is way beneath him. I cringed the few times I've turned it on looking to see Shannon's commentary. He's a smart guy, but that format blows.

I suspect after CBS let him go to pay and keep their ancient commentary staff for the NFL, who all mostly need to retire, he ended up there just out of fiscal necessity.

CBS seems to like keeping 70s ghouls at their NFL desk. I think Shannon ticked those guys off with original ideas.

Even though Sac is in unrestricted free agency, I don't see him being traded for a first round draft pick.

Sac Arrow: the Jim "Crissy" Everett of POA. He used to have it, but lost it...

In a lot of ways ESPN has become a TV radio show. They need to get back to sports instead of a television version of sports radio.

It's a long time to wait until next year's spelling bee finals (also covered by ESPN).

I think Sac is conserving his energy for the rant playoffs. When you've been at the ranting game as long as he has, you have to pick and choose when you bring it all. He's smart, he's savvy and he'll be full bore when he needs it but not before. There's a lot of rant left in Sac.

(ESPN) Extremely Stupid Excercises in Nothingness

(ESPN2) Extra Stupid Egoistic Nerds Too

(ESPNU) Every Supercilious Person Nattering Uselessness

Cheers

I can get on board with this rant. My wife switches back and forth between the two virtually-identical-format morning TV sports talk shows until 9am local, when Colin Cowherd comes on.

The ironic thing is, none of these talking heads are talking about sports. It's nothing but trades, drafts, contracts, front-office squabbles, interpersonal foibles, police blotters and soap-opera dramas involving billionaire owners and players in pro leagues (NFL, NBA) that aren't even in season now. And they're making a major TV "event" out of tonight's NBA draft, essentially a business meeting in a conference room with guys in three-piece suits.

Meanwhile we have a reasonably interesting baseball season in progress that doesn't even get a mention.

1/10 this rookie shouldn't have ever left the bar leagues. This rant isn't even worth the electrons used to post it. Send him down now before I ever have to review another garbage pseudo rant like this again.

One of the funniest threads I've read in awhile. Very well played by Clark & 6PC.

I must say though that I do agree with the initial rant. Those guys who go on and on about a game or a player drive me nuts.

Who finds this entertaining? Who finds this valuable?

Do you mean this thread? Nobody.

What are you talking about?!?! 6PC is playing this like he's sitting in back on autopilot or something. Clark is like superman out there.

PEDs? Obviously not. Other banned substances? Possibly. The League should investigate, maybe pop a random on him. His salary demands it; the City and fans deserves that respect. C'mon man. Trade Sac to Red Board.

Come on... no one else is gonna take this??

He's describing PoA.

@Clark1961 ... please tell me you are going to OSH this year so I can clink a beer with you.

Wow, just wow, not even worth electrons?

Tough crowd.

You guys are fn hilarious. Gotta agree with Stephen A. Smith. Most inane arguments ever. The other thing that I hate about ESPN is that they don't seem to realize that there are teams besides the Redsox and the Yankees.

Don't let it get to you. You shouldn't be reading your reviews anyway.
If he had half the gumption as you he would be out there on the field himself.
You're an ace kid. And don't you forget it. Knock the dust off and step back up to the plate.

Are you nuts? He needs to rest up for his big rant on Monday after the bike ride & burger trip. Shake it off Sac!

There's a show that comes on espn called skip and Shannon that sounds just like what you are describing. It sent my dad into a bit of a tirade one time at Buffalo Wild Wings. It turns out when a six foot five black man starts yelling at the tv, people aren't opposed to changing the channel.

Post 12. Not sure what being black has to do with anything, but Sharpe is a lot smarter about sports than that silly show's format allows.

It's really just a joke, it most likely doesn't have anything to do with it. Nor does really anything other than he was making a lot of noise.
