McClellan-Palomar Advice

Very helpful tips and info.
Curious, if did pop up ifr north of LA bravo, could the possibly give me straighter transition thru bravo?

As always, extremely helpful, great people on POA. Thanks

I filed to go over PDZ, I got rerouted over seal beach and down v23. I picked up my IFR clearance on the ground in modesto...

Just realized, after Tanner , if I just stay on V186, it automatically intercepts localizer. should I descend to 3500 after tanner or stay higher. Approach plate show 3300 before Escon.
I just noticed your avatar. What will you be flying?

if you are IFR you will be at 3500. . . you don't need to 'do' anything - they'll assign you. Plus if you are VFR and FF - they'll assign you headings and altitudes anyway - so don't stress it

Thanks comanchepilot.

I just wanted to get as much in my head as possible.

I will be flying my piper seneca II the one in picture.
You could get V459 SLI V23 instead of going around on V186. A Seneca is not an M Class plane but fast enough they might put you in that flow. I'd give it a try requesting it. Wait until you're talking to Socal approach and then say something like "any chance for V459 SLI." If you decide to go IFR let us know how it goes.

My Comanche does 160kts tas - and I've never gotten anything other than the TEC. . . .

Not bad how do you like the Commanche versus a Bonanza? Commanches cost a lot of $ as much as Bonanzas now for some odd reason.

having flown both - its a personal preference. Bo's sometimes have expensive issues given the parts cost from Raytheon these days.

Well equipped Comanche's do cost more today that similar age Bo's - but you do get somewhat more utility and W&B range from a PA24. Soome of the tailplane materials on V tails is unobtainium now - or extremely costly.

Right comanchepilot I have flown both and like the comfort of the Comanche and flying harmonics of the Bo. My dream ship would be a nice Bonanza A36TC with the large cargo doors for loading pax and gear.

that would be mine as well . . . with my panel . .. or better - if I ever have a spare $175k lying around.

Right on comanchepilot, well a partnership would be easiest way for us to afford it. I see A36 prices dropping and V35 prices rising. A few years ago, the older A36 were over 150k, now see more in 110-120k range for basic panel and nice ones for 150k with updated panels.

I'm not a big fan of Continental motors - esp if they're turbo normalized . . . or turbo charged.

No worries, I get mine snapped off online all the time. Makes for a thick skin in life. I've heard the religious debates of L vs C engines pros and cons. The larger displacement engines from Lycoming like IO-540, TIO-540 are SUPER EXPENSIVE to overhaul and replace compared to Continental IO-470 and IO-520 engines. I did a price comparison and Lycoming almost 30% more expensive! Why?

Arrived KCRQ today, it was clear all the way. I ended up going vfr. A straight line worked the best, shortest using collisium route.
Maglellan aviation are nice people, gave us ride to legoland did 2 trips for our family of six. Greatly appreciate their help.
