Anyone Still Use Airnav?

I don't rely on their reviews after I found out that they let their advertisers selectively remove and edit the reviews on the business. You can not rely on it in the face of a disreputable business.

They cannot remove them, they can dispute them and Airnav then sends the reviewer an email asking for further information.

Here's an example: http://www.airnav.com/airport/KFDW/S_S#c

I got an email last summer from Airnav asking for more details about it, since the owner of the business disputed it. I sent the whole story, and they said it's a fair review and kept it there.

I like AirNav a lot! I like it's quick and simple HTML, it loads fast and tells me what I need to know. For log trips I find their flight planner tool to be very helpful in picking refueling stops.

AirNav is a lean and mean html machine!

BULLPOOP. Maybe that happened in your case (likely the business wasn't one of their "paying" cusotmers), but in mine they not only removed the derogatory information from a disreputable business, they allowed the business to post reviews under pseudonyms impugning the review I had posted. Others here can related similar stories. If you PAY Airnav, you can get what you want removed/placed on that site. It is NOT reputable.

Ok, I guess money talks and BP walks. I never read the reviews tbh, I just check fuel prices from 'nav.

I never read the reviews tbh...

I do, but not to see if the FBO is good/bad. I read them mainly to see what the crew car is like and how available it usually is.

Been using Airnav since it was donation-based in the 90's. Airnav changed flight planning so dramatically. In the old days, you would have to call up an FBO and ask what the prices were and what was nearby, and it was very time-consuming to plan a flight across the country. The newer apps are great, but I still rely on Airnav for airport information.

All the time ,on my I Pad. Not happy that the hotel info is gone, even though it was never that good.

FF gives the nearby services information. I've pretty much given up on Airnav. About the only thing I use it for is when I'm on the desktop and I need to find an approach plate quick.

I use Airnav a lot less now that WingXPro7 has fuel prices.

But it's still my "go to" if I'm at my Mac and not my iPad, which is also less and less.

Airnav does have MOGAS availability and pricing, handy for ROTAX owners, which WingXPro7 does not.

Everything on airnav is available on Foreflight. A lot easier for me to just open my foreflight app than to log onto the internet and search on airnav.

I use it a lot, but I would use it more if they would publish their fee schedule (ramp fee, hangar fee, landing fee etc). When I flew Florida to California last year, it got tedious just thinking about calling all the possible rest and fuel stops, along with alternated. Why deviate even a little to save $30 bucks on fuel if you are going to have to pay a $30 landing fee for the privilege. Sometimes I find that in the remarks, but the amount I pay rarely matches up with that mentioned in the remarks.

I also use it to find out about the availability of crew cars and whether there is a restaurant on site and their business hours.

I've found that many places won't give you the correct prices even if you call and ask. Sometimes they "forget" to mention some stupid "security fee" or similar.
When I write reviews on Airnav, I try to include the prices and the type I flew. I think it serves others better than the "Billy Bob and Frank are great!"-reviews.

Fuel prices, courtesy car calls, runway length/condition information, printout airport diagrams - I use it all the time, despite having Foreflight (which I also love)

Circa 1998 design that for some reason is set in stone, but yes I use it literally every day...

spend some $$$ on a redesign maybe?

It would be more useful if it included the amount of any fees - landing, parking, security, etc. in the listing.

It's time for my annual ad renewal with Airnav, and I'm wondering if anyone still uses them?

With Garmin Pilot's continued growth, it has become my go-to source for airport information, supplanting Airnav. I suspect Foreflight users have done the same, but I'm prepared to be surprised. Is Airnav still part of your preflight checks?

Foreflight user....

Still use Airnav frequently.

Yes, for fuel prices and FBO reviews. I use the AOPA flight planner to get a view of my route and I use Avare with my Stratux when I fly

Put me down as regular user too. I like it for thumbnail figuring before I decide if really want to go to a place.

Frequently for both flight planning AND at work at the FBO

Well, I wrote you a good review ... again ... and they failed to post it ... again. I wonder what they're smoking over there (on AirNav). I want some too! :)

Please contact Gina Garmon at Gina AT airnav.com to figure this out, Lou. I'm not paying them good money only to have them block good reviews!

I use it for planning. Not so much for businesses around the airport.

Email sent. We'll see what kind of an excuse they come up with this time. "My dog ate your review"? :D
If they deleted it, so be it. Frankly, I don't feel like typing the whole thing for the 3rd time! (somebody else do it for me!)

Use it often Jay. Keep up your good work. Ignore the whiners.....
By the way, I have hundreds of reviews on Trip Advisor and over 3,500 reads, lots of thanks. Found that many others whine about things. I keep it real and point out facts. Mostly positive but some not so much and with clear examples so readers can decide if useful criticism or not.
No doubt in my mind some, mostly foreign locations, trump up their reviews with friends to counter the negative reviews. An easy pattern to see.

Jay, I was right, they did pull the "dog ate the review" card. Wow. What a bunch of monkeys.
Their ridiculous excuse is that my profile had no last name specified so they removed it and then the review disappeared too.
I am done arguing with idiots. Sorry, no positive review for you. You can thank the retarded hillbillies in Jaw-ja.

We are looking forward to visiting you in April. Can't wait! I need me some island time. And we're bringing brewskis too.

So, they want a valid user name to prevent anonymous jackwagons from posting vindictive reviews, and that's a problem?

I use Airnav all the time.

No they don't. The problem is that they want personal information.
I created a valid username (just like here) and it wasn't good enough.
Too bad I wasn't trying to post vindictive reviews. Sucks for Jay who deserves good reviews of his business. He and his wife really care about their customers (hard to find nowadays).

I use Garmin Pilot in flight (thanks to your recommendation, actually), but I continue to use AirNav, because I plan on a laptop. Skyvector is almost there, but their UI is much too inconvenient.

BTW, I left a less than entirely complimentary comment for an FBO at AirNav a month ago, and they published it. The representative of the business that I reviewed replied and was generally understanding. However, the process took two or three weeks. Apparently the comment will not go live before the business has a chance to provide a rebuttal.

I don't rely too much on the FBO reviews. When $ignature at KMDW has only ONE positive review (out of one reviews in total), I question the usefulness of the reviews.

Just saw this thread, and thought I'd pitch in with some clarifications First, let me thank Jay for starting this thread, and for his continued business.

AirNav every cross-country, but no subscription (didn't know there was one).
The subscriptions we have are for businesses (such as Jay's) to advertise. For pilots we have an AirBoss membership subscription, to help pilots save money on fuel when they travel. It works for some but not all, depends on your flying patterns.

Not as much since they removed the nearest hotel listings.
Yeah, that was sad. The hotel reservations provider we were with was bought by Expedia, and started pumping only Expedia rates. While those were generally good rates, they tended to be inflexible (pay now, non refundable). Pilots need flexibility because of the nature of GA flying, very dependent on weather, mechanical, health. We got lots of complaints about the non-refundable rates. So that was not working and we pulled that relationship. We are now developing software to work with a new provider that can offer both "pay now, non refundable" rates but excels at "cancel by 6pm day of arrival" rates. The "cancel by 6pm" rates are typically higher, but may serve pilots better. Another good new feature you will probably like is that you will be able to earn your hotel points (which you could not with the Expedia contract rates).

I don't rely on their reviews after I found out that they let their advertisers selectively remove and edit the reviews on the business. You can not rely on it in the face of a disreputable business.
This is just false. Advertisers cannot selectively remove and edit the reviews. False internet rumor if there ever was one. I wish snopes would cover this, but it's too niche for them.

... they not only removed the derogatory information from a disreputable business, they allowed the business to post reviews under pseudonyms impugning the review I had posted.
Please tell us which reviews were published under pseudonyms, and we will get right on it. That is not allowed.

Please contact Gina Garmon at Gina AT airnav.com to figure this out, Lou. I'm not paying them good money only to have them block good reviews!
That's because you can't pay for reviews. You are not paying us good money for reviews. You are paying to advertise your inn, not for the customer comments. Sorry, Jay.

No they don't. The problem is that they want personal information.
I created a valid username (just like here) and it wasn't good enough.
That's right, a made up username is not good enough to post comments on AirNav. All comments on AirNav have to abide by our policy on comments, and you check the box agreeing to it when you submit a comment for publication on AirNav. Rule #7 says:
Comment authors must provide their true identity when obtaining their AirNav user ID that is required to post comments, and must use their own AirNav user ID when submitting the comments. Any attempts to conceal or deceive identity, contact information or affiliation, or to impersonate others, may result in cancellation of comments, termination of account, and possibly other actions.

So sorry, but you can't post as BigBadLou on AirNav. All our comments are highly reputable, by authors who are willing to put their good name and reputation behind what they write. We respect that you may wish to keep your identity private, but then please don't write comments on AirNav. If you ever change your mind and want to publish under your real name, I am sure Jay would appreciate a review of your April stay.

How many have you written lately? If numbers are important to you, write about your own experiences (good or bad). That will help others who may also like to see larger numbers of comments.
