I see a lot of 'tempered glass' screen protectors.
Used and like?
I feel like they protect from scratches, not shattering.
Anyone love their screen protector? Of what is it made, and where obtained?

Whatever Otterbox uses on their Commuter line is great. It claims it's made out of glass or whatever. Wore one out over an incredibly long period of time -- had some roughness where scroll area for my thumb was -- filled out a warranty form for lifetime warranty on their website and literally had the replacement in the mail the next day.

I've always used the plastic film ones, usually from Tech Armor, though I don't know that the brand matters much. There are glossy and anti-glare ones. They do scratch, but they don't project noticeably from the face of the phone like the glass ones do, and they don't chip or crack.

With that being said, I don't know that the film ones are "better," only that they're my preference. I once tried a glass one and struggled to get the dust out from under it. When I finally did achieve a clean installation, some portions of the edge didn't seem to fully adhere, and I personally didn't care for the protrusion around the edge of the glass.

We have the tempered glass screen protectors. They crack very easy where as I know the screen would not crack so easily. Lifetime warranty but it cost like 8 bucks to get the warranty replacement and they crack easy going on. I've been through 2 in two years. While that doesn't seem bad I'm not really sure what caused them to crack would have actually cracked the screen. These new gorrila glass screens are very strong.

I found Otterbox to be a nice product but has absolutely crappy customer service. It took almost six months to convince them to replace my iPAD case that came defective in a way that was WORSE than having the case at all (the iPad could easily fall from the case).

I don't use a case. I like to keep the phone profile thin in my pocket. These phones are pretty tough on their own. I do get the insurance, but I haven't cracked a screen in over 5 years. No scratches either and I shove it in my pocket, sometimes with keys in there. I have an iPhone 6 right now.

I have a little case on my iPhone 6 that holds the edges and has a cover that flips over. It's trimmer than many of the non-covered cases out there. There's room in there to stuff a business card or something. Never used a screen protector on the phones in a long time.

Don't like the tempered glass. Had one (installed by Verizon), it cracked and wouldn't stick properly, they replaced it and the 2nd one did the same. I pulled it off my phone and have not had any protection on the phone for over a year now with no problems (iPhone 6S). Hope that helps. Glenn

They claim it helps protect against shattering, but I doubt it. I use a 9H tempered glass screen protector with 2.5R radiused edges. I typically get 2-3 months out of one. The failure mode is typically it gets chips along the edge, which eventually propagate into cracks.

I only use tempered glass because I would rather replace one of those than a screen. I don't think they add much size and they seem to operate better than standard screen protectors. I would recommend Gadget Guard brand, but I have had decent luck with just buying the cheapest option available. With any screen protector, install is key! Make sure you wipe clean and blow off any dust. Most tempered glass protectors include everything you need, the last one I bought did and it was great!

Never used a screen protector and never had a scratch or crack in the screen. iPhones 4 to SE.

Cheers

They must like us locals more than you. Hahaha. I've never had a single problem with them saying they'd replace anything on the spot. :)

I have to believe they either have lousy quality control or lousy customer service as there is always a protracted delay in reaching customer service (spent hours in the call tree). Further they wanted to charge for returning a product, ordered directly from them, that was defective on delivery. This was after I went through all their freaking "send us pictures" hoops.

Same here. I've never used a screen protector and have never had problems with chips, scratches, or cracks. I sometimes put it in the same pocket as my keys.

Ive used Otterbox customer support 3 times and all 3 times were very fast. I emailed them that my case was broke, in a few hours I got an email back asking for pictures and some identifying info to show I currently have the case, then boom a week later I had a new case. Easy peasy. The first I've heard of customer support issues with them is now. That stinks but they've been good to me and my co workers here in MS. haha

Recently I started going with Tech21 cases, slimmer than otterbox. Still have screen protector though not sure its really useful since the gorilla glass is so tough.

Whatever the tempered glass screen protector I use is made out of, it's seriously tough, and has survived face down impacts with asphalt with no damage.

Almost all of my friends have a cracked screen on their phones, I've had a otter box on mine for 3 years no problems.
