Aerovie EFB - Pretty cool

I attended the FAA/NWS KC Weather Seminar over the weekend (I now understand Skew-T's) and @bryanheitman from Aerovie gave a nice presentation of his new(ish) EFB.

Fantastic little EFB and compared to GP and FF, I feel the weather planning is MUCH more effective, especially compared to GP. The profile WX view provides cloud cover, CIGS, PIREPS, freezing levels (including temp inversions aloft), winds aloft, etc., throughout the route of flight. It's also got a terrain profile view a la FF. Bryan utilizes multiple WX models to craft a fantastic forecasting and planning product. I haven't flown with it yet but at least for poking around on the ground and playing with the pre-flight features it is a fantastische little EFB.

$60 a year and compatible with Stratux.

Thoughts?

I completely agree - the weather planning capabilities are light years beyond foreflight or the others IMO!

Vertical profile tool is something I use for every flight I am actually planning and many many fantasy flights while I'm stuck at work or something.

Are you guys purely using it for planning or are you with it in the plane as well? The vector map is not quite as nice as GP or FF and the icons are small but it seems full-featured.

In the aircraft I use WingX because it's FREE to CFI's.

I use it in the plane as well but tend to use Foreflight more because I have a Stratus that I bought before Aerovie was available. If I were doing it again today, I'd get a Stratux and go 100% Aerovie. Interface is different and can seem less intuitive for those with a lot of Foreflight experience but I believe that is mostly down to what you are used to. I think in many ways it is more flexible than Foreflight.

I use it for flight planning simply because of the visual cloud layer feature. But that is all I use it for. Worth the $60

I've been using Aerovie for about a year and hands down it's the best weather planning app on the market. As others have stated the vertical weather profile is absolute money.
Another benefit is pirep submissions. It's very simple and effective and I kind of enjoy filling them out now. hah

Another nice perk is if you have tried it or done the demo in the past but not bought he will allow you another demo if you contact him. I fully plan to take advantage of this and at least buy a couple of months when I get back active again.

iPad. I met with the developer and it's basically a one-man shop. Being a small shop for a niche market I don't think he'll be developing for Android anytime soon but I'll leave that up to them.

I also tried it about half a year ago. I thought that that the weather features were outstanding, Bryan (the owner) was also super responsive when I had questions.
Even back then, it already included features like STAR previews. Very impressive.

Back then it however had some stability issues, I found some of the ergonomics a little bit awkward and also wasn't too happy about ADS-B weather was integrated. All relatively small issues which I would expect to be resolved by now.

Aerovie is certainly worth a try. The weather features alone are IMHO worth the relatively small price for the subscription. I believe that it is also the only EFB, which offers monthly subscriptions.
