Any recent experiences with timeframe to receive a SI? I am coming up on 10 weeks and my status is still "under review," which it has been for weeks.

Is your AME nagging them on your behalf ?Seems the best I can do for a third class is 8 wks for an initial SI, for unequivocally issueable cardiac SIs (for which repeat field auth. has NOT been granted), about 2 weeks.

If nobody is nagging them, I have had a few folks complain to me that it's been 12 weeks. They are in a huge hole in OKC....

Bruce, in your opinion, what creates such a backlog? Not enough staff for the submission quantity? Poorly prepared submissions preventing approval by first level team and requiring either a kick back to the airman or send up chain to the overworked doctors? Something else?

Is there a lesson to be learned by the rest of us so that when we submit our own, we're not a burden to the system and gain approval from the first level team?

I am using AMAS through my airline union at work. They have been checking in weekly, but I have not had any new information. I have called the FAA a few times directly myself, and they have flagged my application. Nobody seems to be able to give me a good timeline, unfortunately. Initially when I first submitted I was told they were running 6-9 weeks. Hopefully I hear something soon.

A few years ago I had an SI. First class medical. The AME I was using just called on the phone, and I had the SI in my hand in 4 days. Unfortunately that AME has since passed away.

So yes, I believe the squeaky wheel gets the attention.

Is it possible the pro-fliers will get their SI before the non-pros?

Should I have my regular AME call the FAA instead of relying on AMAS? I have a current first class medical, but am self-grounding until I hear back.

Took me 18 months. But, mine also got screwed up mid-way and they had to restart the whole process.

Received my SI today. Took about 11 weeks from the time the FAA received my paperwork at the end of October.

My RFS states on my SI letters to submit renewals 30 days prior to the expiration date. OKC says 90 days and the one time I used them it took about 75 days with many, many phone calls. Local works better. My initial SI, issued a few years ago by the same RFS office, took 6 days. I'd advise any airman to use the RFS instead of OKC.
