Closed Windowshades?

I usually book a window seat but I'll do my best to be a team player. if I see my seatmates all trying to sleep, I'll close the shade. otherwise, I'm mostly a VFR passenger....try to keep my eyes outside as much as possible.

what p!sses me off more than window shade management is overhead light mgmt. when the cabin lights go out on a night flight and you're the only focker with your stupid light on, get a clue!

I always book window and generally shades are open..unless I see it blinding folks than I try and be nice and put it down for a bit but end up open before final approach

To Spike, I understand that frustration. But a lot of times there is nothing to see and if one is trying to nap for whatever reason...

To Emon: I understand that frustration too. In fact, on our last trip from Guam, my wife was that person. But if I can't sleep and have something to read or do...

Or the jack wagon who decides to leave the shade open on a red eye and blinds the whole cabin when the sun comes up. I prefer an aisle because I tend to get up a lot and don't want to burden the person next to me.

Lot of the inflight entertainment screens are pretty poor unless one pulls the shade down. Could be the reason?
Personally I prefer an aisle seat so I can try to stretch out my legs, and trip the flight attendants...

Window shades and reading lights don't bother me. What bothers me on commercial flights are the loud complainers. You know, the people that take up too much space, too much time, and waste too much oxygen, all because the world owes them. Seems to be more and more

That's me! Pretty much the last place I want to be is on an airliner, regardless of what class I'm flying. I always book a window seat because I don't want to be bugged by people that need to go to the restroom or get things out of the overhead.

Headphones are on before I'm on the jetway, typically as soon as I clear security. Into the seat, close the window (view sucks anyways, light can be annoying if it suddenly blasts me out of my nap). I'm asleep before the jet pushes back regardless of whether it's morning, afternoon, evening, or night. Takeoff doesn't wake me up. Landing sometimes does.

Sleep induced time acceleration makes the business travel considerably less annoying. If a layover is longer then a hour then I find a place to hide in the terminal and sleep.

The big problem is all the damn crap people drag onto the airplane. Makes no sense. Business travelers are often the worst about this. Wish the airlines would fix this problem -- it slows the whole system down (takes a lot longer to turn airplanes then it should). I carry a backpack with my work essentials that I always put under the seat in front of me. The lack of legroom doesn't bother me so much because I'm instantly sleeping anyhow. By the time you get out of the bathroom after your flight your bag is ready. Plus you can bring more than 3 oz of liquid...

If it were up to me I would rip the overhead baggage out of airlines entirely.

Really makes no difference on check in time either. I always check baggage and I always time it so that I'm walking up to the gate as it's boarding. NYC or LNK.

Monday mornings - I'm bulkhead window seat. Settle in and usually asleep before the front door closes.
Friday afternoons - I'm bulkhead aisle seat. Easier to get to the lav.

Anytime there is a connecting flight I check my baggage. Period.

Some airports I'll always check to (Detroit is a good example... the walk is roughly the same time as getting the first bags off)
Some airports I REALLY HATE to check to (DFW, unfortunately my base, is horrid) If it's a usual work trip I won't do it.

Now then, when my Pomeranian is traveling with me I can't be in the bulkhead, and I check even more bags. She likes the window seat so the cart doesn't disturb her.

I prefer the aisle seat. I never sleep on a plane. (unless I am in the left front seat)

I prefer the window, and I have no problem sleeping on an airplane, even with the sun shining on me. In fact the warm sun makes me drowsy.

I went from checking my bag most of the time to trying never to check. The one time I did, in recent memory, I had to wait at least a half an hour extra for it to come to the carousel. It wouldn't have been so bad except for the fact that it was at the end of a 24+ hour trip.
