Samsung - Galaxy Tab E Lite 7" for Avare?

My dad sent me a link to this tablet. Looks like a piece of junk to me.

I was planning on getting him an iPad mini 4 for Christmas (that is what I have). He wants to use it for Avare (he won't pay for Foreflight, Garmin, WingX, etc).

What do you guys think? Would this run ForeFlight, WingX, Avare, etc well? I can't imagine a $70 tablet is a good way to go but maybe I am wrong. I am typically a tech nerd, but haven't paid much attention to tablets in years.

Don't see why not. It's got an internal gps, micro SD slot for expanded memory, and a good processor. Seems like a good value for a single purpose running Avare. I run it on a wifi only Tab 3, and it works fine.
It's android, so it's not going to run foreflight.

Avare will work with that unit, a slightly better choice would be
Samsung - Galaxy Tab A (2016) - 7" - 8GB - Silver
it has more RAM and better resolution. If any of them has the feature / option of OTG that would also help in attaching a device RTL-DVB that can provide Wx and Traffic with an optional ADSB app. that interfaces with Avare via Avare IO. There is also the option to get Wx and Traffic with Avare and Stratux, via WiFi. and an external box, and that does Not require the OTG option in the device.

Forget Avare. FltPlan Go is better. Works great with my droid tablet. I gave up on Avare because it would never connect to my XGPS170 for ADS-B. Works great with Go app.

Yea like I said it's my dads decision lol. I can recommend FltPlan Go to him. I figured an iPad 4 mini would be the best way to go but maybe these cheap tablets are just fine.

or on Ebay, download Avare, Avare IO, and Avare ADSB, there is a Free limited or this guy charges around $2.50 for the Pro, and you use you internal GPS, and get WX, Traffic and Plates, Charts, Moving map....

match price with MicroCenter, and I am testing Avare with the OTG, and the DVBT as we communicate, but the app finds the OTG to be available, which should work.

No need to spend money for X anything, unless you have more than you need / want.

Hello everyone.
I was able to verify and confirm that the Tab A works with the Avare, Avare IO, Avare ADSB and the OTG / dongle to display Traffic and WX, in addition to the moving Chart etc. Blue dot is actual traffic.

What do you think of the tablet itself? I guess I am just a bit shocked that they are making $70 tablets that good now a days. If that is the case why in the hell are we still paying $500+ for iPads lol (despite the fact you have to have Apple in order to run ForeFlight)?

The tablet is fairly good quality and it works very well right out of the box, no surprises. It lacks some of the options, like Auto brightness, but most of the time that does not work any way.

I use a Samsung Galaxy 4 7" tab as my primary way to use Avare and to get ADS-B via my FreeFlight RANGR and am happy with it. Specs seem to be about the same as what you're looking at but cost me three times as much. More memory and processing is always better but mine has similar specs and is fine. It fits very well in the generic Ram-X tablet mount on my yoke (but I have it coming up from the bottom instead of over the top).

I also got a $20 LG pay-as-you-go smart phone and just use wifi (I've never paid as I've gone). It's great to run Avare and I primarily use it to watch for traffic. I got a $10 suction cup mount at WM (where I got the phone), so now I have traffic closer to my scan. It's nice to have that up while using the SamTab for a geo-referenced approach plate since the plates don't show traffic. The $20 models turn over quickly but I went for the absolute smallest at the lowest cost and have been happy with the LG I got. I got a second one for my wife to have one to watch for traffic too. At first I didn't load any maps on Avare (and it did just fine) but now I load the low-level IFR charts. It also shows NEXRAD.

A few "lessons learned" about the SamTab: their charging cord isn't standard (you CAN use a standard micro USB but it's WAAY slower) and even with the right cord the charging won't completely keep up with the power draw when using wifi. And the gadgets all connect to the RANGR via wifi. I typically shut the tab down en route to save battery (and rely on the LG). Even plugged in count on only about 6 hours of use.

I personally like Avare and it plays well with the RANGR (and the tabs).
