Gaston's Fly-In 2016 - Thursday Oct 13 - Sunday October 16

Made it home. Nice smooth ride back with a ten knot tailwind. 500 ft ceilings in Lincoln but the rnav took care of that.

Arrival was different this year. Was stuck on top of the overcast. Requested a hold at 3M0. Held until I saw a vfr way through (followed bob's footsteps).

Truck wouldn't start of course when I got home. Ted must have jinxed me.

Had a great time - see you all next year.

I am in Brownville IL staying the night then on to Decatur IN for mx on the rv. Will leave it in Decatur and drive the CRV home. Had a great time with all John, I still owe you something for my share of the boat Friday. How did Bryan get beat up and everyone else had smooth flights? Inquiring minds want to know.

We just got home. Tom and Diana were kind enough to host us for a midway stop. It was great seeing them (plus getting to chat a bit more with the Bockelmans and Chien's) and the kids got to burn off a bunch of energy!

It was great seeing everyone!

I figured you had some pretty good turb, I had some bumps down low and a lot of yaw with the winds. At one point the tailwind was so strong i had trouble keeping it below 65 was great to meet you and Erin (did I spell that correct)

Meh, I'm not worried about it. We were going to be in the boat anyway. And I *did* get to smack you in the head with a lure...

:(

I am havi.g trouble remembering that part, did I catch any fish?

Teresa and I are home! Great event.

Just realized I didn't have any of the onion rings!! Gah!

Great seeing everybody. Especially Bob, for coming so far!

And thanks to Ted and Laurie's kids for "hanging out" with us. Can't tell those kids to get a grip--they have one!

Driving back from dropping Bryan and Eren at KBPK for their flight home, we saw a sign in Lakeview for a place in the woods on the hill above Gaston's called "Redneck Paintball." Hehehehe... ideas.

Just made it back home safe and sound. Fought a pretty hard cross wind most of the way, but fortunately the Chevy is a pretty stable craft ;)

Cici, Willie, and I enjoyed ourselves immensely, and want to thank you all so much for making we Gaston's newbies feel welcome. You are just a fantastic bunch of folks, even Tim Winters. Special thanks to Bryan and Larry for the rides. Very much looking forward to next year.

What a great weekend!!!! All except for the flying portions anyway.
Got to meet and hang with so many people.

Listening to Bob Bemant telling his stories was amazing. I feel like I met a living Legend.
Got to take @OkieFlyer for a flight in the Cirrus w/ the monkey.

I think we had 3 Tims and 4 Susans and they were all awesome.
Larry took me and Eren for a ride in his new bird which was really cool.

Good to meet TMyers, Drink Dana's home brew, Great people and great fun.

I can't think @TangoWhiskey enough for driving to pick us up and take us back to BPK

The never ending group text that morphed into some serious WTF messages @timwinters was awesome.

Spent about 6 hours here texting @tecprotb "2 more hours and the weather is showing severe clear!!!!"

Loaded the most important stuff in the plane still texting Tim "Any minute now, the TAF will change and it will be clear!!"

I see that you already had your Tim quota which is why I couldn't come. :(

It would help if those of us new to PoA folks knew who these people were in the pictures.

If you come to Gastons and don't know someone's name, Just say Tim or Susan, pretty good shot you will be right.

Man!

Thursday morning, before leaving for Gaston's, I tipped the scale at 204.

This morning...

212

That's why I avoid buffets...I do like to eat...and I think that's all I did all weekend!

Oh wait..

I drank a few gallons of beer too. Well, at least that left less room for food!

I'd better get out there and split some wood today.....

Edit: oh, and the chocolate ice cream. That's why I only make it a couple times a year...

We had a quick flight back with @flyingcheesehead at the stick and rudder, and a nice tailwind. I had a great time learning new stuff, buttonology on the 430, as well ways to make my flying better through good habits. And we all must have had a great time and were totally popped out as Kent and Kelsey turned down our offer of BBQ, and we opted for take out and made it home. Looking forward to next year!

Shout out @steingar @Geico266 for the helicopter ride - that was amazing!

Well, that was embarrassing. Got my screen names to real names mixed up!

Yes, Thanks again!

Where's the nearest airport with airline service? I'm a renter, and that rental bill would get pricey!
