Gaston's Fly-In 2016 - Thursday Oct 13 - Sunday October 16

Good morning. Linda and I should be wheels up within 90 minutes or so. Weather looks like a non-issue.

Will file IFR, N8465Z.

Any chance there are tie down's open? I can't figure out where the hell mine are at.

Jesse, there is nobody in the grass parking area as of this morning. You should have your choice of spots.

Miracle of miracles, we'll be able to make it after all! Mooney is still in the shop, but I got a call just a bit ago from the club member who had the R182 reserved, and he's cancelling his trip due to IFR weather (I don't think he's rated). And we're taking that room with Tim that Spike was going to be in.

Still have to wait until the plane is available later this evening, so we'll probably be going into BPK around 9-10 PM. I'll plan to file so y'all can see me coming - N271RG. I think that'll be the R182's first trip to Gaston's!

OK, my first was "G-II," 2005. Just found Diana's setup thread.

Also, the "going home" thread from 2006 - that was the year Ken Ibold had his... ahem... interesting arrival in the Pitts, followed in just a coupe of hours by departing to fly BACK to Florida because of an emergency. Imagine. Florida to Arkansas and back, in a Pitts, in a day.

I think Bryan must have flown over just now in formation with another Cirrus. And I think mated. Their offspring fell to the ground here...we have baby Cirri all over the place at Gaston's right now!

Teresa and I are headed up to the flightline to set up the canopy and dark chairs. Y'all are welcome to join us. The powered parachute of started flying and ceilings /late lifting and visibility is much improved (>10 miles)

PIREP:Current conditions as of 1:40 PM: still totally overcast, no breaks in the clouds, but visibility is good. The runway has some puddles on the centerline near where the picnic tables and our canopy are.

Also be aware aware of extensive powered parachute activity on the field today there are no less than seven PPC's here. Not sure if they have radios or not.

Looks like we're not going to make it. I have a room reserved for tonight and tomorrow if someone would like to see about transferring it over. Pm me and I'll see if I cant have them add you to the reservation. I've already paid the first day with the reservation.

Andrew and I walked the runway (with my 3 kids). It was in good overall shape. Gopher holes weren't big. I'd land the 414 here.

Much of Colorado used to be in Texas, and we may take it back yet...

I'd be fine with that.

Bring some extra standard capacity magazines, since some folks here don't have any, and we'll decide if we start a siege around Boulder or just wipe it off the map, after you guys deal with Pueblo. LOL.

The only downside I see is that you're going to double the size or more of Austin when you absorb all the California lefties that have moved here. So since they're still arriving en masse, I recommend sooner than later on your northward march strategy. And winter is coming.

See ya when you get here! ;)

Oh, bring stuff to make a really big smoker. I haven't got one and you guys will be hungry. And we all know Texans run on BBQ.

Bring the monkey too, he seems like the sort that would be useful in chaos. Hahaha.

Did you mean to post a pic? I don't see one on Tapatalk.

I did, but for some reason it didn't work. The picture you posted later was pretty much the same.

Getting ready to hit the road in about an hour (unless something faster turns up, Ed? Kent? Hint hint). We will be in around midnight so catch you all late morning.

Thanks for the update! I've been following Bob's progress online and his SPOT stopped updating just north of the state line.

Runway was closed for a bit with a PPC crash. Line was crossed over the envelope. Spiraled into the runway from ~50' AGL. Guy is awake and okay, being transported to have his back checked out.

Pass the word. If anyone needs a room we aren't making it. :(

Ok. Did you have a cabin assignment?
I have the reservation paperwork back at home. Not sure if it has a cabin number on it. We just got a regular room.

Watching all the posts are making us sad we're missing it. Next year.

Tim and Susan made it too! Let the party begin.

@TangoWhiskey is as close to a live GastonsCam feed as you can get! great updates!

however, you look all too comfortable with that penisbeer in your hand. you DO know there's a 'secret ingredient' in there, doncha? :D

Do we still need 5 lbs ground beef for tomorrow?

Looks like i'll buzz the runway to indicate we're going to the county strip, in the am....

See you all soon :)
