Gaston's Fly-In 2016 - Thursday Oct 13 - Sunday October 16

I am playing that really smart weather game where you look at all the fields between here and there and see if you can leapfrog around the VFR ones.
Also only looking at the optomistic weather apps. It appears flying in is doable but I might have to go up around Canada, down through Georgia, back track down through Floridia, swing back over through Texas and then its a straight shot from there... To Arizona and then back up and over and down through a layer in to Baxter County.

Alright. See Y'all about 2:00

The only problem is we still wind up about 50 miles from Gaston's.

Looks like we can do this and once again, we come home with a story.
This will be like OSH with fewer planes and a monkey.

6PC, be sure to see the NOTAM, ILS 05 OTS during that time.

We're awake and will be brewing a pot of coffee soon. Anyone who wants a cup come on over!

Laurie also needs a ride to WalMart. I'm going to walk over to the restaurant and see if I can get some milk and sugars while the coffee is brewing. Cabin 7!

I've seen better flying weather between Atlanta and Gastons.

The RNAV RWY05 LPV is only 50 feet higher than the ILS. Should be doable if we can get that far. The routing outlined by 6PC appears to be about right.

I just woke as well and getting ready to put coffee on. Give me a few maybe I will have so!e Dupuis coffee

Lance (and everyone else) if you end up having to IFR into Mountain Home, we have no shortage of ground based vehicles to come get anyone. Give me a call/text at 812-243-2585 and we'll be waiting for you.

Of course, I'm volunteering someone else's car or the Gaston's van since ours is currently air-cooled.

I hope the wx is better down there today. Right now up here it's: 15005KT 3/4SM BR OVC002

PS: I can smell the coffee from here.

Ted, we just awoke, in bed sipping coffee...you're welcome to take the Tahoe, come get the keys, we won't be going anywhere.

Oh, I now re-read and see you say Laurie "needs a ride." Gimme thirty minutes if she hasn't already found one.

Thank you Ted. Plan on getting that call. I'm going to file around the north side of the weather. If you're bored, we should be on Flight Aware N57039. Always a challenge. Question is: would it be better at FL210 than 6,000'?????

View from the dock this morning. Looks like perfect CVFR (Cirrus VFR - use the autopilot, pull the chute!) @SixPapaCharlie

I vote for 7. Who knows how much deviating I'm in for. Wheels up in about 45 mi

Additional PIREP: Connie's Diner in Bull Shoals (a great breakfast stop) is closed for a kitchen remodel.

...so weird to read this from afar. I've been a Thursday-to-Sunday Gaston's guy since (I think) 2006... or was it 2005?

I know I flew there at least once in a club plane (the Deb), which would have made it no later than 2007 (when I bought my Bo), but I think it was 2006.

Hey Guys... I'm up here and it's all white. I can't really see the ground or the sky.
Can you listen for my engine and then just kinda tell me which direction to fly and then let me know if it sounds like my engine is getting quieter in the proper direction.

Thanks.

Good morning. Linda and I should be wheels up within 90 minutes or so. Weather looks like a non-issue.

Will file IFR, N8465Z.

Any chance there are tie down's open? I can't figure out where the hell mine are at.

It sounds like there will be plenty of vehicles to line the runway with their headlights.
