Someone's going to be an airline pilot!

its another world. In a Duchess you'll see no rate of climb (or worse..) on one engine on standard day. I've got thousands of hours on Multi Engine Piston aircraft. It's all bad news if you loose one. Step into an Airliner and you'll see 1500fpm at MTOW. It's all about Power to Weight ratios. For airline training we really just want you to understand the basic concepts.. and yes, train you the (right) company way..

Hmmm.... I've lost an engine in a Navajo and lived to tell about it. I've lost engines (numerous times in the sim) in many different jets and turboprops.

Your faith may not be reasonably attributed.

Got assigned my first trip! I start with a deadhead from JFK-MSP on Saturday, spend the night in MSP, MSP-FAR turn, MSP-CVG, spend 12 hours in CVG. Monday is the killer day with 5 legs. CVG-BWI turn, CVG-MEM turn, CVG-RDU, spend 18 hours in RDU. Tuesday, RDU-CVG turn, spend 19 hours in RDU. Wednesday, RDU-CVG-MSP, spend night in MSP and deadhead back to NY the next morning.

It looks like I'll be going back to the school house for differences. I just got awarded the 900 out of JFK. Earliest class will be in October and the latest in January. Just when my landings were starting to get good:)

Oh man, you gonna love the 900! No problem getting up to FL400, think I had it up to FL410 once. Approach and landing very different from the 200, even the 700.

Yea the trips should be better too. Apparently the 7 and 9 land like a normal jet, slightly nose high? It wasn't too bad of a landing transition with the 200 because I just landed it like a Cessna.

Better? Maybe if you can withstand sitting in that terrible excuse for a seat for 3 hours+. There is nothing "regional" about our 900 flying. The only regional flying we do is on the 200. But being in NYC, I could understand wanting off the 200, the trips look like they suck out there.

Yup they approach nose high like the big boys, a bit more flare for the 700, and a lot more for the 900. I pounded one in during OE and no way was I gonna opened the cockpit door. After the passengers deplaned, FA came up said a guy in 1st class asked if we were just shot down. I had to laugh at that.

Better meaning less legs a day. My mock for next month doesn't look too bad. Is the mock pretty accurate or not at all?

As a junior FO, no, I didn't find the mock to even be worth looking at, other than showing you what you won't get. Now, seeing as the base you're in is as small as it is, it might be a bit better. Depends on bidding strategy too. If you just bid 1 thing, it's probably close. If you have a bunch of preferences, it may be way off.

The only parameters I put a lot of points on these days is avoid JFK and desire MSP.

Differences from 200-900 written complete. No sim schedule yet but hoping to get it done by next week. There's just 2 FTDs, 1 maneuvers training and a maneuvers validation then I'll be signed off.

The rate of movement between types these days, compared to the bad old days in the 90s sure is impressive -- back when I would watch and had bailed on the industry as a whole for greener pastures in telecom -- it's fun to watch you guys plow through all these upgrades, enjoying yourselves.

Man, some of the horror stories from friends who went to Mesa in the 90s about being stuck in Beech 1900s for life... glad I didn't go that route, honestly.

But way cool that you guys have better luck/timing than I did back in the day!

Yea I already have the CL65 type so the training footprint is very small. 3 days of ground (really 2.5 with a written at the end of the third day) and 4 sims. Slightly different systems and procedures. No seat lock. First time you upgrade, there's a 1 year seat lock. I'll probably upgrade back on the 200 since it's a little more junior. Start instructing and I can see you here in less than 2 years!

I'll be honest here, there is always the temptation to go fly for a living -- but really, I'm just enjoying the hell out of this process of figuring out how to teach people right now. My CFI has hinted that he will like having me around to help with some students (he has plenty of really talented and older CFIs around, I know part of this is just motivational for me and may not be reality).

I also have a friend who's shown significant interest in adding a power rating to his glider Private -- he would be a great first student... he already knows how to fly so I can't completely screw him up too bad, and he's the personality type who'd gladly critique my teaching methods -- and we already know we don't have any personality clashes... so if he's serious about it and willing to spend the time and money, he may get to be my first student...

But right now I need to do the SE add ons and maybe the double I first... there is light at the end of the CFI ride tunnel and no train horn sounds... but I have a lot of work to do still. :)

Then I want to see how much I really like teaching. I think I will but there's always a question.

Meanwhile -- I'm probably going to the day job all next week. Heh. Gotta do that whole "make a real paycheck" thing for a bit and help the poor savings account recover. It is over in the corner balled up in a fetal position crying softly. LOL.

50 hours of Multi time will do that to even the toughest savings account. It may need PTSD counseling. ;)

I'm just banging away at this, one logical step at a time... I can't even believe I have a piece of paper in my wallet that says Uncle Sam will let me teach people multiengine flying quite yet. Haha.

Any particular reason you went to the 900, outside of SJS?

Slightly better pay and more productive trips.

You understand year 1 pay is the same, right? Maybe the trips are better on the 900 than the 200 in NYC, I don't know, but it doesn't make much of a difference in DTW. At least for me, I won't fly the 900 until I'm forced onto it, it's not a regional jet. And large city overnights suck.

Yep. I don't really about the trips in terms of better destinations and stuff like that. I'm seeing guys on the 900 getting more time with roughly the same amount of days off. When I upgrade I know I'm going back to the 200.

I offer you sincere congratulations! But please don't start another "dreams come true" thread. One of those was enough. Even though that was a great thread.

That was a really odd thing to say. Are you the forum police ?

I surely can't imagine the motivation for saying such a thing and it truly strikes me as very odd.

Great job Jordan, I'm glad all your hard work has paid off and you are willing to share your experiences with us.

It's the internet, full of people who type stuff just to be dicks. This forum especially can be overly hostile. It's a fantastic resource of information just have to sift through the nonsense, ie that guys post...

Sure thing.

Yea, for sure. The minute I am trying to discuss something with someone here and they go obtuse and pedantic - I'm out.

I don't think he was meaning to be a d*^k but when I read it I was like WTF ?

Cheers.

There is another thread called "dreams come true" or something like that. I don't think he meant disrespect but was only saying he hoped it didn't evolve into another thread like that one. But this is POA, and it probably will. So what, no big ****ing deal.

yes I found that thread(when dreams come true) very inspirational. which is why i found what he said very odd.

for that reason(inspirational) I hope it does evolve :D too many e-peen match pedantic nitwits arguing about the meaning of the word 'the' on this site trying to thump on their chests the loudest

For what it's worth, I thought that "When Dreams Come True" was the best and most inspirational thread on this forum.

As someone who has a stable business and a lifelong passion for aviation, I am currently dealing with the tension between my desire to fly for a 121 operation and the fear that it will disrupt my family life too much.

That thread was exactly what these forums should be so, by all means, start another one!

The only problem I have with the when dreams come true thread is that it doesn't get updated often enough.

By far the best thread on this forum.

And this thread is pretty good too.

I love the different perspectives from the old guy and the young kid both going through similar journeys in life.

Yeah but, we can have more fun with a title change for the same subject...

"Someone's going to be a airline pilot!" Yay! Job security for mechanics!

"When Dreams Come True" now showing in XXX.

FWIW I'm getting an average of 15 days and have had all the major holidays off since April. I do have to work most weekends though.

Ha! You might be surprised. I think my wife enjoyed me being for 2-4 days a week. Think the kids did too, hearing more stories about things they did when I wasn't around now that they're grown up.

I've heard people talk about it, but if you know how to bid, it doesn't really make much of a difference what plane your on. Just as long as you enjoy where your at, that's all that matters. There's a chance I could get captain on this 16-06 vacancy, not sure if I really want to commute to NYC for it though.

Damn we could have flew together! I haven't looked at 16-06 yet. You wouldn't be able to hold DTW? The NY really worked out for me
