New England/ New York fly in lunch?

Looks like we are missing this one. Low Ifr and a long list of people waiting for SVFR to get out. Enjoy lunch and hope to meet everyone at the next one!

OVC008 according to people leaving.

I just got home and realized, I didn't get any pics. I hope someone else did.

Marks, sorry you couldn't get out of the DC area, New England was wonderfully clear. It was good to see and swap stories with azure, Neil and his Cajun hitchhiker, Orange, Mr and Mrs PilotRPI and UngaWunga (who would have guessed, that is his real name).

A nice afternoon of hanging out on the deck watching planes, swapping stories over lunch and then an impromptu tour of a large part of the late 1970s Cessna 100 series line up, in honor of Cajun who is about to find out what life is like for those of us who like it on top (the wing, that is).

She'll be joining the cool kids soon enough. I didn't get any pictures either.

Got back home, gusting winds here, but nicely right down the runway. Saw 125kts ground speed on the way home. 8 gallons burned on the way out (4500') and 8 on the way home (5500').

And some low wing thing.

Great time! Thanks @neilw2 for hooking me up with a ride after my rental flop. I only got one pic... Mr Wunga, Mongoose and Neil dorking out over each other's plane specs. Neil and I also hit up a nearby Class C and hopped a ride over to a really cool aviation museum on our way.

Now I'm in a tavern around the corner from my house getting rehydrated.

Cheers!!

Happy to show you pics... the barstool next to me is wide open. Fly fast.

In all reality, if I wasn't in FLA this weekend I was trying to figure out how I could get you there for this flyin but I'll just have to wait for the next one. Have a shot for me!!

I cant believe Unga Wunga's story of why his parents named him that. Only those at the fly in will know i guess.

Had a really great time. Can't wait for the next one!

Parts of it was a little sad, but really it was a great story of perseverance.

@eman1200 I'll post a couple pics from today when I get home.

Next time, I suggest KLRG. There's a picnic/camping area you can taxi to right from the runway on the river.

Sounds like you guys had a great lunch, I'll be sure to attend the next one. I still made the best of it though. Waited for it to burn off and flew with the 2 friends and the other FDK plane that were planning to come up there. We went and got lunch in Ocean City, NJ and then decided to make it a two beach trip and flew down the coast to Ocean City, MD. Gotta love GA! Now back to prepping for the IR checkride.

Really great meeting everyone today. Thanks to all those who came out! We will have to do another soon.

Sorry I had to run so soon, but I didn't plan my rental well, among other things. I was planning to take off at 10:30 and arrive by 11:45, at the latest. But the fact that half way on the way to the airport, I realized that I didn't have my wallet and cell phone, so had to go back home. So I lost 45-50 minutes, which already put me behind. And then as I was leaving KFRG, while taxing, I had a 15 minute wait to cross a runway while jet (taking off from crossing runway) "had just gotten his clearance and is ready for departure". Well, he waited and waited, then back taxied on the runway to get the full length. I could have crossed all the A380 in service today in the time it took for him to actually start rolling. And meanwhile, me, and about 8 other planes are waiting to cross this runway. And then another 20 minutes holding for takeoff. I took off about 11:50. I got there about 1:15pm, and I had the plane only until 3:30, so had to leave about 2:10. I landed at 3:31.

That sucks! Glad we got to see you, even if only briefly :)

@eman1200

Here are a few of the pictures I took. Unfortunately, only one has PoAers in it.

@neilw2 making a beautiful landing at Bradley International...

Glad to see the overwhelming majority of the fellers flying in have the good sense to have the wing on the proper side of the aircraft.

This neilw2 guy however... questionable judgment indeed.

They put the wings on wrong on your plane. =D

I think the only one who came in with low wings was Orange. I'm getting checked out in a 172 later this week and curious if I'm going to end up liking it more than the Pipers.

Oh. I thought they were the ones over on the right.

Glad to see Orange knows what's up.... and it certainly shouldn't be the wings. :D

High wings are okay. Especially in the summer. Having two awnings on either side of the cockpit makes for good shade. The feeling of flying on top of the wing is something I prefer to hanging under it though. And I like being able to see during a turn.

No "surprise" guest" showed up? ;)

I actually agree and like the sight vision of the low wings better. That being said you can't beat the versitility of a 182- it does everything I would want pretty well- cross country, short fields, grass fields, etc. Just a good overall plane for me so I'll put up with a slightly less desirable visibility.

I was holding out hope we would see a Comanche with a knowledgeable but slightly sarcastic pilot but no, we didn't see any.

Sneaky best thing that happened that nobody else noticed? @orange actually ordered an orange juice with lunch.

OMG, he did! Way to keep it real, @orange !! :)

There was this one guy who walked up when we were sitting up on the deck... he kept kind of walking around and looking at us weird, but then he never came over and went back down the stairs. Knew it wasn't our troll, though, since he didn't fly in.

For the record, @EdFred - as other can attest, I did wear my sht-kickers just in case.

Hey maybe he flew in earlier or the preceding night, and it was him! Nah he wouldn't have been able to resist enlightening y'all....as you were.

I was going to make it an overnight trip. I woke up Saturday morning to thunderstorms, and figured it probably wasn't going to be in the cards. Then it cleared up and was considering it, but then got a call from a buddy needing an extra player for a moonlight softball tourney - which usually run until 2-3 in the morning. So at that point I was definitely out.

Should have gone Edfred! I think they were waiting to hopefully judge your landing and sounds like Cajun was ready for you.

A 182 is probably the best value for the dollar from what I read. Truly a jack of all trades. Will do nearly everything anyone needs it to do. And well.

Shame about the wings though. =D
