New England/ New York fly in lunch?

I went to KGON in May after hearing great things about it... was OK, I guess, but nothing special in my book. The only people I talked to were two old guys in the restaurant who were confused why I didn't have a male pilot with me. Kinda crapped on the experience. I've had much better experiences at places like KBID, 1B2, KCQX, KSFM and KASH.
Two old guys? Customers or employees? If employees, I would have been tempted to let management know their people need an attitude adjustment.

The time I went there, I was bummed only because they were out of clam chowder. That was about a year and a half ago and I haven't made it back since. But the staff seemed respectful enough.

They were customers - obviously regulars, as the waitress was on a first name basis with them. One of the guys refused to even look at me - I wasn't worthy of his acknowledgement, I guess. I know it isn't reflective of the airport, but it definitely soured my experience there. The food was OK... nothing special, but not bad.

@hotprops - never been to kfok

I went to FOK a few years ago, if I remember correctly there was a Cajun restaurant on the field. Looks like a new place has opened there, now.

You probably weren't old, male, and grey haired enough, the typical pilot demographic. Some pilots fear change.

Bah, who cares, don't let others crap on your day, especially old farts. They were probably the POAers who think they are internet studs but are afraid to look at a woman never mind talk to one in real life because they are dorks.

Dude.... I'm right here. I can see this. It hurts my feeling. :(

My natural "resting biitch face" look is far scarier than any of my costumes! ;)

I don't know about a few years ago, but the restaurant there now is called "The Apron Café". It's a small place, has maybe 16 seats total. I took my wife and daughter there last fall for breakfast. It was relatively expensive and took almost an hour for the food to come out in such a small place. $48 for 3 people. I had waffles, my wife an omelet, and my daughter fried eggs I think. And we each had a glass of juice or iced tea.

It took so long that I missed my return time for the plane.o_O

how did my post get quoted /CHANGED to "never been to kfok"??? wtf

That wasn't Paul quoting you. He was quoting Cajun's response to you which was "never been to fok"

... which feels like it should be on a t-shirt.

I promised I'd update this thread for you all regarding KBID and charging a fee. I landed there on Monday and eat at Bethany's. The airport was crowded but not crazy. The restaurant was packed though! So good call on not going there because the locals had every seat in the house jammed. We were able to find a seat in the corner but the resturant has no air conditioning so it was not the comfortable and sitting outside would have required a wait.

Anyway, I was not charged any landing fee or anything and no one even seemed to care I was there. I parked off on the grass and walked right in and no one stopped me-- same thing leaving. I just walked right out the door and no one stopped me again so if they are collecting fees they are not doing a great job!

Barnes(BAF) is a great choice! I don't mean to start a whole thread drift but,I think they have the best food out of any of the airport's I've been to for lunch. Enjoy your time guys. Hopefully I'll be able to join you all on the next one!

Absolutely....Hopefully the wx holds up to its end of the bargain but I will be there. Looking forward to meeting everyone!

I'm still in. Neil, did you already give the restaurant a heads-up?

Yes, we are all set. I re-confirmed today and they are ready for us.

I'll be there around noon, I got us a table for 12:30 but they seemed like it would be no problem if we are a little early. I'll be hanging out in the parking area with my green/white 182.

Everyone else still in?

@Cajun_Flyer you getting to fly in or you driving?

I'll be flying. Just look for the green/white Piper doing all the go arounds and ballooning down the runway! I seem to have forgotten how to land the last couple weeks

My tail # is 238ND, unless they change me up.

I'm still in and it would appear I have another aircraft wanting to join from FDK. One maybe two additional people total making us 4-5 instead of 3. If that's an issue, let me know and I'll break the news.

Not at all! Bring anybody who wants to come....

I made the reservations for 12 but I can increase it if needed. Seemed like they won't have a problem with more- its a big place.

Are we on the deck, or inside? They have a super viewing deck upstairs, but I'm not sure how many that can hold these days.

Just looked up KBAF and realized that it's not far from I-91, which makes it a straight shot on the interstate for me, and less than 3 hours each way (road work permitting). Is it too late to add one more? Also: as this is an ANG base, will security give me any trouble coming in by car?

I used to work next door to the airport... last I heard the base was actually closing, but not sure if it ever did or what the timeline on that was. Anyway, no, you won't have problems if you drive. I drove to that airport for food a couple times (which I just realized after I googled it last night!! Now I really am excited, because it was a great place to eat and watch planes back when I still only dreamed about flying them...)

Join us!

Down, boy.

Hey you're the one who said you had numbers on your tail! ;)

BTW the ANG is still there with F-15s. But they're probably just a section/portion of the airport. They do have an alert function (Air Defense), and are a candidate to get the F-35. So sounds like they'll be there awhile.

Yeah the terminal is not in a secure zone, you drive right up and the restaurant is right at the main terminal area.

Good to hear! I've only met one other POAer since moving here two years ago, would love to meet y'all. The only thing making me think twice is classes start here Monday, but my only Monday class is at 1400. So I think I can do this! :)

Not going to be able to make it,going on the Bermuda cruise out of Boston. Next time.

@azure No problem at all, in fact apart from one taxiway being closed to civilian traffic, you barely notice it. Until the F-15s launch, that is. There's two separate entrances, one for the main airport, and one for the ANG base. If you head for Airport Road or the Main Terminal you'll be all set. Just ignore any signs for the 104th.

I think there's constant talk of whether the base will stay open or not

btw if anyone wants to take the exceptionally long cross country (11nm) from 7B2 with me in the Cardinal, let me know.

I'm pretty sure we won't get lost.

Too bad Ron, I was looking forward to meeting you. Enjoy your cruise and keep us in mind for the next one

Who wants to get there early with giant number cards so we can score all the landings from the deck and make people feel self conscious? Overall score based on standard landing, style, creativity, numbers of landings in one pass, highest bounce. I only want to be the first just so no one gets a chance to score me.

Great, like I need more pressure! BAF has a 9,000 foot runway... surely I can't screw this up too bad.

Or can I?
