I am inspired by the threads in the other parts of the country where they have a fly in lunch or whatever...

Any interest in doing that around New England? There is plenty of POAers out this way and it would be cool to meet up, have some lunch, enjoy some hanger talk and check out each others planes.

Maybe KBAF would be a good spot- kind of central to everyone from New England and even NY? They have a restaurant on the field with a roof deck to critique everyone's landings. I was thinking maybe late August, early September.

Thoughts?

Damn! I should have made this a poll so I could have added those and we could have voted on it....

I could any of those 4. Other interested people chime in so we can come to some sort of consensus!

I'm game, how about someone more scenic with good food,

Lake Placid KLKP?

Good enough to host the olympics, should be good enough for a flyin ;)

Depending on when, I might be able to finagle a buddy with an airplane into flying up there, or even Adk Regional in Lake Clear. I'll be home (middle of Adirondack Park) for the two middle weeks of August. "Home" strip is 0NY0, but I'm not an airplane owner yet... I grew up there, though. My parents' back yard butts up alongside the airstrip.

That's the airport I had to make my flight plan for my checkride! Kind of a tease to create a flight plan and then not get to actually get to fly to it... looks like a great destination, but it's a bit far. I could definitely do one of the other three airports suggested... that one I would just need to block out more time, I guess.

@neilw2 - can you do a poll?

I agree a bit far for us around BOS, but like you said def doable. It is a BEAUTIFUL airport right in the valley in the mountains.

can you do a poll?

I don't think the software lets you add one after you already started the thread or at least I cant figure out how to....anyone know of a way to do it?

I'm in, BID is a nice option but can be a bit busy at that time of year. Lake Placid is an interesting option.

I'd come from Philly if the dates worked

Hey @James331...does LKP have a restaurant on the field or close by? I don't see one listed but maybe there is one within walking distance that would work out good.

Ok cool....

So the plan is in about 1 month from now Sunday, August 28th.....

If that date works for you reply to this thread with your # 1 vote (because I can't create a poll in this thread).

We will go with the majority-

Choices are:

KBAF-Westfield, MA

44N- Sky Acres, NY

KBID- Block Island, RI

KLKP- Lake Placid, NY

I'll start the voting-KBID

KBID works for me.

KBID is my preference, although KBAF is pretty easy for me to get to as well.

44N - would be my 3rd choice

As much as I really want to visit KLKP, my PPL literally just came in the mail yesterday and I rent, so that would be a bit of an expensive hike for me. So, I guess that's my 4th choice.

(P.S. My avatar is KBID! :) )

I'm in, KBAF is great option, can't get much more central and great services. Big enough restaurant for everyone right on ramp.

After poking around a bit, I'm actually changing my vote to KBAF. I haven't been to that one before.

In order of preference,
1. KBAF
2. KBID
3. 44N
4. KLKP

Sunday, August 28th works great. I definitely prefer Sundays to Saturdays, as I don't like spending 30 minutes in KBED pattern trying to get cleared to land :/

And whoever takes charge, please please please "hello my name is" tags and a sharpie! (Name, Mooneyspace handle and tail number)

that is right in my neighborhood, but I won't even be back in the states yet.. ugh. I can vouch for Lake Placid for you guys though- I got engaged there. It's a very fun destination.

KBID has a landing fee ,for all out of state aircraft. KBAF can work for me.

Ok so far we have...

3 for KBAF
2 for KBID
1 for KLKP

Good to see some responses! Who else wants to get out from behind the keyboard and do some flying?

Good idea, I will definitely take care of that as we get closer

Well, my enroute time to KBAF is about 5 mins... So not that much flying ;)

I'd be in for BID. I get done with training on the 6th but this month might be bad for me. I'm not really sure what they're going to do with my schedule.

I love BID. Haven't been to BAF yet. I heard the parking fee is waived if you eat at the BID diner, not confirmed, but only charged me $10 last time I was there. I don't care where we go as long as I can fly somewhere and hang out with people. I'm in as long as weather cooperates and my wife hasn't set me aside for horse show support.

PM me if you are up for lunch tomorrow, 7/30. Was thinking of going to Chatham, but I'm open to anything.

Also, Crow Island is having their amazing fly-in 8/13 and 8/14. Great food and people.

BID did not charge me when I went there - I ate at the diner, so I think you are correct.

Wish I could join you tomorrow - Chatham is on my list to get to before the summer is over and was hoping to make it down there before the TFR goes in affect. But apparently I have to spend time with my family and not just fly planes all the time! ;)

BID or BAF sound good options, in that order for me.

Take them with you? Have your kids gone up with you yet? Man mine went up at 6 months! :D

Looks like BID is slightly ahead...keep the votes coming!

Too bad no time for me to fly today or I would have taken you up on it!

I have never been to Crow Island but looks pretty cool to check out. I see according to their website they are mainly ultralights, etc. could I bring my 182 in there or should I just drive in if I go?

always loved Sky Acres. Jinny Styles was such a hoot.i believe the daughter runs a internet based pilot shop out of the old barn.

Ha... took me long enough to get my husband to stop freaking out about ME flying, no way he'll ever let me take the kids up. :/

@PilotRPI I ended up going to the Chatham area today, but did it by car... hit Coast Guard beach up on the Cape. Beautiful day, but lots of low clouds and fog throughout the morning - just curious, did you make your flight that way?

Didn't go to the cape. Went to Sterling instead to watch the gliders a bit and say hi to people I haven't seen in a while.

By all means take your 182 to Crow Island. The runway is in really good shape, and I have no concerns taking my 172 there. You'll see all sorts of planes at the fly in.

The newly opened Aviator restaurant at Glens Falks, KGFL, is excellent. We missed that flight since Carol's closed a couple years ago. But this restaurant, in a newly built facility on the field was superb. Great food, brunch type food on the weekend, nice decor and good prices. In addition, flying up and around the Lake George / Adirondacks region is beautiful.
