Anybody want to buy a nice 310?

My Twin Beech does too. There are also external speakers in the cabin.... I just need to figure out how to activate the PA feature on the Garmin audio panel and I'm in business!

GMA340? Should be "PA" button then hold PTT while speaking to make uhh, your, uhh, cabin announcements, uhh, thanks for flying with us.

Fantastic pics of that big hole in the ground. How is it flying around there w/ other aero vehicles doing the same? A frequency ya'll use and/or strictly see and avoid to prevent near hits?

There's several frequencies, some defined overflight routes, lots of no-fly zones, and lots of rules in an attempt to keep the metal separated and the tree-huggers and their critters happy. ;)

And make sure you're not transmitting it all on guard like I hear about every other flight. :D

Thanks for the info. Figured it was something like that.

Yes, it is a GMA340. I saw the PA button, just wasn't sure if I needed to hold the PTT button down. I'll have to try it and see if the cabin speakers are hooked up.

I've accidentally scared myself with the PA feature with mine.. I never figured out that the PTT was involved, though! Now I have a new toy at my disposal.

You should be able to test the cabin speakers just by turning them on ("SPKR" button).

In answer to the question in the title of this thread, sure, I'd love to buy your 310. However, I have exactly 0 hours of multi time, got my first ride in one (Baron) yesterday and was just overwhelmed by all the extra complexity that adding an engine brings to the game. Of course, the extra toys he had in the panel didn't help, either. Oh, and my wife would kill me if I bought any airplane, nevermind a 310. The club cost structure is much better.

BTW, the owner of that Baron estimates that his total cost of operation is about $400/hour. He'll get a nice tax deduction for that Angel Flight blood run we did yesterday. How does this compare with your 310?

All I got out of your post is that you need to start a 310 club to avoid the hassles ;)

Helpfully, there is a TAC chart for the Grand Canyon area that makes it easy to navigate:

http://www.faa.gov/air_traffic/flight_info/aeronav/productcatalog/vfrcharts/GrandCanyon/

There's a textual description in Part 93 of the FARs as well, that's what makes it regulatory.

"YER ON GUARD!!!"

Ugh. I hate the Guard Police... Especially after a guy made a call that sounded like a mistake 'cuz he didn't say "Mayday" he was just trying to get someone's attention, the Guard Police jumped all over him, and when they finally shut up he jumped back in with "Madison Approach, Arrow xxxxx on guard, I'M ON FIRE, ..."

It's only sometimes warranted.

New Years Day this year, I was flying right seat in a friend's 340. We're in cruise, monitoring guard and listening to country on SiriusXM. Someone transmits on 121.5 "Anyone got any New Years resolutions?" in about 0.00001 seconds I hit the "Com 2 Mic" button on the PS8000 audio panel, PTT and respond "Not talking on guard."

The 4 of us in the plane were laughing, at least. :)

^^^ 220 indicated. That's cute.

I only joke because I'm insanely jealous! Gorgeous airplane, and gorgeous family. :)

I think we were level at 10,500 in that pic, so doing like 260ktas. Those are my oldest, middle, and youngest who are 13, 9, and 5. The two missing are boys age 11 and 7.

I work for my wife and five kids. For second job, as Ted said, I'm a 39 year old chicken farmer.;)

I'm part owner of and work as the COO for a group of companies that produce eggs for retail and industrial purposes. Collectively we are the second or third largest such company in the US and produce about 10% of the national egg supply.

While I have certainly shoveled **** and carried pails of feed in my career, I don't personally do much of that any more. My main task these days is to find great people, give them a vision, and get the hell out of the way.

We are a business run by a group of families and certainly didn't start out this big. We've kind of specialized in finding troubled and inefficient operations and turning them around.

We have operations in several states and customers across the nation which is what was/is driving my travel schedule. I did several years on the airlines earning status one painful segment at a time. Many years doing over 150 segments and it was killing me. About two years ago it dawned on me that I did in fact have a pilots certificate and perhaps it was time to put it to better use. If I was going to get myself from place to place on demand I figured I needed a FIKI twin with a pretty good set of situational awareness tools and some good training. Ted talked me into a 310 16 months and 300+ hours ago. It has been awesome.

Thanks for sharing your story!

Like others around here, I always do wonder about the path(s) that others have taken to achieve their own brand of success in life. My current career path won't ever bring me financial riches, but I do it for other reasons. Nevertheless, I'm always keeping my ear to the ground for other opportunities for the next phase in life (because, money is nice, too)… a close friend of mine runs a small avian operation, keeping about 150 chickens at the horse boarding facility he owns. He has always wanted to buy an airplane. I'll be sure to let him know that he's on the right track :)

Thanks. I try to not forget that I was the beneficiary of quite a bit of privilege and more than a little luck along the way. Just enjoying the ride.

Bwaaaaaahahahahaha!!!!! Well played!

What's the noise level like in the back of the Conquest? I noticed no ear-pro, but kinda figured it had to be somewhere between airliner and 310 in noise.

It's not too bad, props are at 1800 max for cruise and some folks run them as low as 1600. I don't use headsets in the back of mine unless someone wants to listen to music, but no complaints, even the dogs like it! :)

Well, in the 310 if the batteries run out on the headset it is damn near an emergency, and the noise was one of the chief complaints of my wife about traveling in that plane. In the conquest headsets are not needed at all. I did a flight recently and it took me an hour to realize I hadn't turned on my lightspeeds.

Could be. I wasn't paying attention that closely when I snapped the pic. I didn't make any speed claims in that post so it is irrelevant other than it is cool to be able to indicate 220 and be "pushing the barber pole". I have a long xc on Thursday and I will post straight and level to see what she can true.

James, that is a great looking airplane and family. Congrats!!!

A little montage of the start and climb to FL240 on a flight the other day. Please forgive the terrible video work as I'm new at this. I'm also trying to understand the goofy data on the altitude information. The audio is from the camera mic and the voices you hear are over the top of engine noise to give a sense of the overall noise level.

Great video! There's something incredibly sexy about hearing the whine of the first turbine spinning up. I miss it, and your video captures it well. My work plane has turbines too, but they're so far behind the flight deck that I don't really get to experience the thrill of hearing them spool up.

Love that panel too - that's an incredible example of a Conquest.

Awesome video.

Interesting differences vs. the Cheyenne. It had max prop RPM of 2200, and max ITT of 700C, with the green arc stopping around 675C as I recall. That seems to be the big improvement with the -135s, looking at your engine gauges at FL270.

Too cool. I love the sound of a turbine spooling up.

Torque is limited to 1244 lbs at 1900, 1313 at 1800, 1390 at 1700, and 1477 at 1600. Those start being limited at altitudes above about FL220 depending upon altitude and ISA temp. I think when I took those panel pics we were ISA +6 which is why I was only pulling 1200 lbs. Interestingly I was not full throttle and below ITT and Ng limits. I did not expect to see the glow out of the stacks last night. Pretty cool

Also interesting, that's a more complex limit system than the Cheyenne. I forget the limits, but there were just two torque limits, I believe for 2200 RPM and 2000 RPM. We didn't get the glow out of the stacks at night in it, either.

Shows that a PT-6 is not a PT-6. :)

What's your cabin altitude at FL270? I love the extra speed you're getting from those -135's! I'm jealous! I flew Friday at FL200 and was getting 260 true. Looks like you get an extra 100 degrees on ITT.

Just under 10k.

James, that is a great looking airplane. Have you named it yet? May I suggest "Speed Bird 1"...:D Congrats!!!
