Where to fly in Florida?

After I received my SPL, the first flight out of Kisimmee wa to Cedar Key. I loved flying in there, except powered parachute guys hanging over the airport.

And the shuttle landing spot, I have ridden my motorcycle on several times during benefit rides.

Every state has its beauty In flying but in my humble biased opinion, Florida offers some of the best!
Thanks for sharing!

Cedar Key is a great place to drop in for lunch, only a 2000ft runway to play with, so needs a bit of care when gusts coming in off the Gulf.
Call your pattern approach and Judy the local taxi driver will call you back and ask if you need a ride into town..

Made our first trip there in April, great day out.

Just spent a couple days at KCDK Cedar Keys FL for no particular reason. The V-ibis cabin (middle of runway among the trees to the left) we wanted wasn't available. Ended up in a 2 BR house for a few $$ less (top right corner of runway is the access road, first house on left with water access to left and right). Turned out to be very short (suitcase luggable) walk from end of rwy 23. Had to taxi down to foregorund end to park.

Airnav and others listed golf cart rentals but we didn't bother. Judy nor anyone else showed up in response to our traffic call. Our sense is that October is off-season with few weekday visitors despite perfect Wx.

We winged it transportation wise and found 2 beater bikes were included with the rental for rides to town along with 2 kayaks for launching out of front yard.

The former 'hangar homes' in the trees at the lower RH corner of pic look like aviation heart breakers. I assume they were built before 9/11 and the fences because they are now outside the fence and the runway is inaccessible to them. Ouch!

Yes, the runway is relatively short but the approaches are non-obstructed. Ended up doing a normal approach over the water with a 5 knot tailwind. No problem with proper speeds in an RV10. The better plan would have been 23. It has a displaced threshold which few seem to pay attention too - it's unobstructed as well, just some housing under final and a road with an occasional car.

Both ends are subject to jumping mullet smacking into your gear.:D:D

Right next to V-Ibis.
Hope to split our time their soon but currently being rented as short term vacation rental. Golf cart comes w rental.

Fence around runway just went up this year.

Does it interfere with landing or taxiing?
No.
Landing - fence does not extend around approach ends, short shrubs at approach end of 23.
Taxiing - KCDK has no taxiways.

As part of the upgrade to the airport, resurfacing is supposed to happen someday. Just the fence so far, no additional tie downs/apron, still just a portapotty. There is a new EMS helipad on west side of runway.
Gate code is RUNWAY #'s

Coming back from a long cross-country I like to stop at Flagler Airport (KFIN). It's like 10 miles from Daytona, but the restaurant (Hijacker's or something along those lines) makes the short stop worth it.

I guess it's been a while since the last time I flew into Flagler County Airport, the last time I was there it was KXFL but they must have had some reason to change it to KFIN.:dunno:

For an old fashioned airport fly into x39 North Tampa ,cheap fuel ,restuanant at end of runway, friendly people.

KCDK has now been resurfaced, repainted, relighted w PCL, new windsock.

I keep meaning to go to KCDK, but haven't made it there yet. I am super happy they repaved that field though, it definitely needed it.

If I figure out how to stuff a bike in my plane I might be game. I don't wanna have to rely on someone to come pick me up (or be on the hook to pay said person to take me back). Cabs/Uber are one thing but a lady in a golf cart just sounds sketchy..

The WALK to town is short and easy. A welcome bit of exercise after sitting in plane.

You can come over to Ferguson (82J) to check out the Pensacola Naval Aviation Museum. There's always the keys...

Got my private at Ferguson many years ago. Take a good look at the traffic pattern and altitude though. Pattern altitude only 500'.

AirNav remarks states it's within 3 NM of NAS Pensacola and it's actually 527'. My guess is it keeps you below the military traffic at the NAS.

Basically the airport is in a cut-out of the class C airspace that actually goes down to the surface for the naval base.

I'm heading down to the Everglades (X01) this weekend for a seminar from FAASafety, I hear there are some decent restaurants in that area and the runway is another short one ( 2400 x 60) if you want a challenge. Should be fun in the Cherokee :)

Here's a little video I made about Cedar Key a few days ago ...

Great! The video ended short of returning to home base… Now how are we supposed to know that you made it back?

Haha! Well, I guess it's always best to keep people guessing!
