I was never able to join due to some technical glitch, I could have probably complained more and someone woulda fixed it. Probably for the best.

I've found political discussion on the internet is mostly about a bunch of people yelling at everyone else, figuring the opposition just doesn't understand and if they hammer it home hard enough they will miraculously change their minds.

It becomes addicting yelling at all these people who are wrong... big time suck.

Meh. I won't miss it.

I'm a member of the SZ but I so rarely post in it that it's absence wouldn't put me out.

Vast in number are the things that we are either unaware of or don't use whose existence is fleeting - and therefore whose departure we care not about.

But it is not a question of what things we directly use, since that question itself is among the vast number of things that others care not about, but rather a question of whether those things we don't use are in fact doing us unseen favors.

For those who must have the SZ, allow me to offer an alternative. I was a member of another BBS that shut down their politics forum (called The Pigpen). I set up and started a private BBS for people to continue political discussions. There are no (ok, very few) rules. Don't be over the top vulgar, don't joke about the holocaust and don't cause real life harm. Its pretty easy to stay within those boundaries.

Disclaimer - this is a service/hobby for me. Automatic registration is disabled due to spammers, you wouldnt believe how annoying they are. Therefore, you must email the admin account as noted. I travel for work, so it will probably be this weekend before I get accounts created. Instead of telling about your submarines, tell me your account here and about what you fly.

Everyone here is welcome, this is a service for friends and enemies. The original groups was submariners, but you guys will fit right in. I will try to adjust some of the messaging for airplane folks too. Again, this is a hobby, I dont necessarily move fast. The service goes out if we lose power at home...it will come back.

Hope this service helps those who just dont feel complete without virtually smashing someone over the head.

For the Pigpen, i have enabled user registrations for the next week or two...after that i will return to my plan that you have to request access.

Huzzah!

Where oh were could I expect to find such a gem of wisdom on POA if not SZ? FT, oh no. Not even HT. For if there then some other would vociferously voice their opinion that it not be appropriately enough Aviation Related.

POA will miss the Spin zone. You can't stop a third of your posts without some effect.

3/4 of that 1/3 were the same things being repeated over and over by the same people.

I disagree. The Spin Zone gang was more on top of current news and world events, and that drove the vast, vast majority of threads.

If you want to see things repeated over and over by the same people, search the main forum for high wing vs low wing, headsets, kneeboards, etc.

When the spin zone goes away, what is the plan to deal with all the posts in other forums that are now sent to the SZ? There will be more of them. Will they be deleted and the poster be banned? Can't wait to see how that turns out

The news events change, but the opinions/talking points expressed stay the same.

By the way, I know of at least one poster who came back to PoA when I told him how to stop Spin Zone posts from showing up on his New Posts page.

Principles have a way of staying constant in the face of a changing environment. That's why they're called Principles.

Principle - noun - a fundamental truth or proposition that serves as the foundation for a system of belief or behavior or for a chain of reasoning.

A lot of the repetitively expressed views are not principles, but opinions about what the facts are.

Like "the wealthiest 1%", "the GOP 'War on Women'", and "cake bakers have no right to a religious exception." Got it.

I agree that the first two look like examples of repetitively-expressed opinions about what the facts are. The third one looks like an opinion about a principle.

Much like the posts of "Can I log this?" or "Can I get a medical after my 15th DUI?"

Personally, I don't mind repetition of questions like that, because unlike the Spin Zone, citing an authoritative source tends to actually accomplish something.
