Bob's Ramblings from the PB.

Push comes to shove, we can come Bob-nap you.

Excellent! Get any pictures?

P.S. - I have a GoPro-like knockoff I should send to you so you can suction-cup mount it and post more videos of your flights.

This is a picture I took of the little town of Riggins Idaho. It sits on the Salmon River, just east of the Seven Devils.

It is on my bucket List to get back to Gaston next year for the fly-in there.

I am working on a right seat passenger to help get me back there with 54N. I want to start on a Monday so I will have a few days of fudge factor.

There is an article in the General Aviation News by Amelia "Mimi" Reiheld. called: STILL FLYING THE BACKCOUNTRY AT 81.

Each year that the Vale Mural Society had their auction, I would donate an airplane ride for an hour. Each and every year Benny Maag would try to buy it. In fact he had bought so many of them that I was running out of places to take him, that he hadn't already been to before. So I called up to a place called Lands Inn, located NE of Dayville, OR. I asked if I could fly a couple of people in for a breakfast. She informed me that they wouldn't be open for that type of activity for another few months. I explained to her that Benny was fighting a battle with Cancer and he had out guessed the doctors by a few months already. She said bring them up and she would fix them a breakfast. So Benny and his good friend and flying buddy, Kieth Gressley went with me to the Lands Inn airstrip for a breakfast flight. This is the video of that flight over the top of Strawberry Mountain at 9200 feet.

I was looking through my log book and I came upon a flight I made on 5/26/2007 to Big Creek, ID. I took Gary and Ann McClellan and their 12 year old grandson Tyler Flint. The Lodge at Big Creek was open then and we could get breakfast, the lodge burned down in 2008. I remember Gary was interested in some local history about a town called Roosevelt that was covered in water when a giant mud slide cause a lake to be formed. He wanted me to try to find Roosevelt lake that was formed at about 1909. I didn't know where to look and so I was not successful at finding it. Big Creek, ID is about and hour from Vale in flying time and is about 23 miles north of Yellow Pine, ID. Jack Walker another Vale resident has a working gold mine in the Big Creek area and Jack flies in and out of there to operate the mine. They are in the process of rebuilding the lodge at Big Creek now and it should be back open in another year. We had a great flight and a good time on this flight. Did I tell you I love to fly! ~~~~Big Creek Airstrip U60.jpg

Love you, Bob!

Thanks Spike I hope to start to write a few more of my flights up on here it gives me something to do.

I still had my 170 Cessna airplane and three ladies, I don't want to call them old, but they were all senior citizens. They had talked and talked about why I didn't give them an airplane ride. I told them I would and they always seemed to have an excuse to not be able to do it right then. The three were Ned Fulleton, Vi Howell, and Margret Willson. Then Vi got real sick and before we could all take the ride Vi passed away. We finally decided that we would drop some rose pedals over the cemetery for Vi. I didn't have any idea at the time how to do that. The other two showed up, on the day for the flight, with a little basket with the rose pedals in it. Well we took off and flew over the cemetery and opened the window and one of the gals attempted to drop the contents of the basket out the window. Do you know that I found rose pedals in the back of my plane for several years every time I had the annual inspection done. ~~8~~

I got a call from Rick Hancock, and the date in my pilot's log book says 9 /11/99. It seems like Burns, OR. had a day rodeo and Vale had a night rodeo. In fact it might of been just a bull riding rodeo, too long ago to remember that. Rick said he needed a bull fighter that was in Burns and he wouldn't have time to get from Burns to Vale by car. He wanted to know if I might be willing to fly up to Burns and bring back three people to Vale. I said sure I could do that for the Rodeo Board so I got my plane readied and on the selected time I headed for Burns. When I got there the three were Bill the Bull fighter, still in his dress of cut off pants, stripped socks, basket ball like shoes, red stripped shirt, red suspenders, and had his face painted up with a big red nose. The other two were connected to the B bar D rodeo contractors, that furnished stock for the rodeos. Dan Durfey and his mother Jolene. Dan was usually a pick up man for the rodeos and his father owned the stock along with a partner. Now I got the word that this clown in the right front seat had gotten sick one time when he was flying, but on this flight he did fine in that department. I still remember thinking how odd that clown looked flying along in my airplane with that big red nose. We got them back to Vale in plenty of time as it is just a little over 30 minutes normally. Another good flight in my 1959 Cessna 182 B skylane.~~~8~~~
