Thursday October 13 - Sunday October 16, 2016

Instead of the funky "CODE" copy/paste procedure for the attendee list, simply RSVP HERE if you're going to attend.

All 5 of us will be there!

Middle of my semester, rats. Still, glad this gets done in fall. Can't imagine how hot it gets down there in the summer. I take it back, I can. Bleech.

Fly down on Saturday morning!!

Nearly 500 nautical, still take 3.5 in the Lucky Strike. And I get to fly back Sunday!

Actually, by then I should have the IR, so it might even be doable. But I never plan a return trip that close to a hard deadline. Too much temptation to do something stupid.

Going to try to schedule it in ,hope to attend.

Add 2 more to the list.
I will book a cabin (hopefully not a mile away from the infamous cabin 6) next week.

Anyone feel like stopping by KCHA on their way?

I am planning on getting there early, catching a few trout and having them prepared and ready for Saturday night dinner. Who would like to sample fresh trout?

Most definitely attending. I will bring some leftover cornbread that Grant gave me this year :D

When we got home we went to dinner with the kids. Our adopted female lab ate (stole) the entire tray of jalapeno cornbread Grant sent home with us. That ***** learned a lesson!!

I'll be attending if I can get off. I can't bid for vacation until next year sometime since I'm new.

Ohhh, if I bring my rig can I jump into Gaston's from your chopper!??

Now THAT would be cool! Just need to ensure there are no runway inspections at the wrong moment! Or, land over there by the airplane parking area? You need a colored smoke canister and the POA flag! :)

When I made my reservation this year, I asked for the pool area and got Cabin 4.

Do I ask for the same area? Or a different zone?

And I'll make the request we 86 the Sunday Brunch in the restaurant. $20 for that line up was not good value for money spent.

I'd wish we had some eggs and tortillas so we could have done breakfast taco's from the left over brisket. I would prefer doing something like that on Sunday versus the restaurant.

That sounds like a good idea.

My wasn't it great to get back to work after Gaston's?

aaaauuuugggghhhh! Noooooooo! :(:(:(

I re-reserved cabin six.

And if you want me to bring the left over brisket next year so you can have Sunday tacos, I can do that.  :yikes:

Good idea, but we might have to make them up the night before and re-heat in the microwave. Not fair to make somebody cook and clean on Sunday while we're trying to pack and make an 11am check-out!

Those who reserved cabins, perhaps we can switch and get one of the large units?

Did we rule out the Convention building or whatever that was called? It might even have cooking facilities, indoor seating?
I would be happy to inquire price/capabilities/availability if no one has yet.

One difficulty some of us discussed and we will have to keep in mind that if we commit to a large building (lodge or other) and the weather bombs, it could be a problem. Be positive, right?

I also wonder how we used to get the use of the van overnight, it was really handy to move between facilities at Gastons after hours ;)

We're going to rent a separate room with the kids. We end up needing our own space for naps, making bedtime easier, etc.

I just sent Karen a text that we are going to reserve something and make next year as non-optional as possible.

Ted, do the math. There is time for you guys to have another set of twins. Get busy! :D

ROFL!

ROFLMAO!

I may be tempted into fishing with ya. Lemme think about it. Karen isn't into fish or fishing at all so an early arrival may not be in the cards. But I'd love it.

ROFL!!! Poor dog. Fire in the hole!!!

"Gastons traffic, Skylane 79M, One Zero Thousand over the field, Jumpers away..."

Interested in figuring out what to reserve also. Don't remember the lay of the land too well from the last visit.

As far as nixing the restaurant goes, I'd be okay with that but... Keep in mind that a little extra revenue and tips in the pockets of the staff goes a long way in putting up with our shenanigans. Ultimately the place probably thinks of themselves as a fishing camp with an airplane habit, not the other way around.

They're wanting to sell the "entire package" to fishermen and a bunch of noisy airplane yahoos who don't cough up the dough for a so-so meal in their establishment could be a minor insult to them or just add to a list of reasons to tell us not to bother coming. You never know...

Might as well always plan to toss them a bone. I've spent dumber money to keep a place happy when a party got out of hand.

Plus... tradition. Right? Ha. Bad food, decent view, group photo, Spike making speeches... ;)

The Villa (10 room) wasn't available. We might be able to get one of the 4 bedroom Lodges or Cottage though. I don't know that the Conference Lodge was ruled out, but it would be an extra expense ($540/day) that everyone would need to chip in for, as opposed to a common area that someone would be much more likely to donate to the common cause.
Rates are at http://www.gastons.com/rates.php

Especially love the "facilities" link, Dave.

It looks like the conference lodge is out--only has a bar with fridge, ice maker and microwave. No kitchen facilities.

I would like to go next year, but of course it's a looooong way out.

No one check the weather for Gaston's between now and then or you'll jinx it! :D

We booked cabin 9. See you next year!

Idea for Thursday dinner (instead of Pizza): Taco Bar.

Prep will be just browning the meat with seasonings. Set out taco shells with lettuce, cheese, onions, tomaters, hot sauce, picante, etc and let each person make up their own. Maybe add refried beans and flour tortillas for those who want a burrito.

Veggies can be prepped at home and brought in. Other items are packets/cans. Then it's just browning the meat and setting up food bar.

It's only 11 hours to drive from Gaston's to Columbus. That's enough time that if you had to, you could drive back after brunch when people leave anyway.
