Looking for a CFI with SEL in or near Springfield, MO. I need a BFR and nearest place is 60 miles from me. Anybody else around Springfield?:dunno:

Try Jack Reynolds. Not sure he's still around but likely is. The FBO probably has his number.

Pretty sure Jack Reynolds is still around. I live in Springfield and had a heck of a time tracking down a CFI to work on my PPL.

Thanks Muttley and Bman. Closest place I found to rent is Aurora. Really looking to spend some time, right seat just fine, to get back into it. Been out a long time. Bman - do you know if there are any opportunities for that at KSGF? I'll try to locate Jack Reynolds and see what can be done about my BFR. I have an ATP and multi ratings. Just need to get current.

Wondering if anyone ever turned up a CFI near ksgf? I've been training out of Aurora and this is my CFIs last day. Would love to track down an independent that can fly out of 3dw, but seems there's not many choices in this town. Thanks for any input.

Hey SkyDog,

Yes, I have hit all those sources. Proflight was one of my first calls. The guy I spoke with said they were not currently training. The second link is some sort of call center for flight schools. Closest was 130 miles away.

The first name on the Gleim list was recommended by a couple airports, but must not be taking anyone new as he doesn't return emails or calls. Unfortunately, none of the rest do either. I think this is just a stepping stone to ATP for most in this market and many have moved on.

Good news is that Old CFI hooked me up with a contact here in town and Im going to try and go up with him next week out of the downtown airport. Hope it works out, but would take any other contacts if anyone have any. Thanks all for the help. I'm dying to fly and this CFI change is really getting in the way of having fun in the plane:D:D

The bottom line is that Springfield is not an aviation town, neither GA nor commercial.

Back in the 80's UPS wanted to put their Midwest hub in Springfield. It was a great location for them, plenty of runway length w/a xw runway, and little or no traffic at night. Perfect.

The city leaders asked UPS "what are you going to do for us if we allow you to use our airport?" When their question should have been "what can we do to help you bring those jobs and the resulting economic boost to our town?"

UPS went to Des Moines.

Then about 15 years ago Springfield city bought Airpark South from the City of Ozark (or Christian County...one of the two) and promised to renovate and expand it for GA use and as a reliever for SGF. They closed it instead.

And it's not just aviation...the city leaders are pretty much anti everything.

Springield is a nice town but it could be a great town if it weren't run by a bunch of close minded, myopic idiots.

Hey, I'm just glad to hear that you were able to make a connection. Good luck!

Well then, I guess old cfi and sblackb need to do something about that. Every airport needs some pilot activists. Maybe they can be it?

Yeah, wouldn't have thought it would be this tough. Nevertheless, I think I'm lined up with a guy to fly out of 3dw, so I will cross my fingers he's good:)

As for the lobby for more aviation, I sort of feel I need to get my ticket first before I'm really part of the community, but then again, I probably have the ideal perspective trying to go through the training in SGF. Just amazing they don't have any interest in growing the airport uses. Thanks all for the help.

I am glad to see there are some folks in the neighborhood getting their act together for their PPL. Send me a PM with your email address so we can connect. It would be good to get more traffic at 3DW. It's a great airport and pretty quiet. When I have another plane in the circuit it's somewhat odd.

The end goal for me is to eventually hangar a plane there when I wrap up my PPL. I would be a liar if I didn't say I wasn't looking at Controller every day.

Doing my cross country work this week pending CFI's schedule.

I've taken s few students to each of those airports, never real busy but nice enough facilities at both

Unfortunately I couldn't duke it out with the city fathers as I do not live in Springfield or even in Greene County - I'm one county over 30 miles away. So with me not being a "voter" in their jurisdiction I would probably be left to mafia tactics. At my age, not worth going to jail. But I do plan on visiting both airports and "expressing" my displeasure on the lack of flight training and rental aircraft. Who knows, may find a few more that want to stir the waters a bit!:dunno:

Sent you an email Bman. I know what you mean. We had a Cessna departing last time we were there doing TAGs and it was like, "woah, that plane is near us... focus" makes me think we are too sheltered there, but nevertheless, I will be crowding in on your airspace and the hanger space there, so you better quit browsing controller and start buying :D

Man, if I had a dollar for every hour I've spent on that stinkin' site. What are you shopping for? I seem to have crush on the Mooney M20j.

Good luck with the CC.

As with Old CFI, I'm about 20 miles out of town and out of the county, but will have to start asking some questions of this town at some point when my head is not swimming with the vast amount of content I need to know to get this PPL done. I know at some point it will all click, but I have never been good with raw memorization - or spelling. :)

I get the sense it's easier to install your own private landing strip than it is to deal with Greene county and the City. Sad, but I must say, having your own landing strip has a nice ring to it...

My husband just got his medical back, thanks to Bruce Chien, so he is instructing again out of Lamar, MO.
