It is with great disappointment that I must inform you we have to cancel the raffle for the 2006 Cirrus Airplane. We have not sold near enough tickets to cover the cost of the airplane. Ticket sales have dwindled and at the current pace it would take about four to five years to sell enough tickets to have the raffle. The airplane would cost over $300,000.00 and Cirrus wasn’t even giving us a discount.

More info at the above link.

3500 tickets at $100 a ticket. My guess is they just didn't advertise to the right community. The National Corvette Museum seems to be able to run a dozen or so similar lotteries a year and make them work. Heck, I've bought a number of the $100 tickets from the NCM. You just have to get the right audience.

You ask me that is also a bunch of Bull-pucky about only refunding 90% of the ticket price. I don't care if they spent "thousands" of dollars promoting the sales. The fact is they canceled the raffle and should refund all the money or go forward with the raffle not pocket 10% of the revenue. If the people want to donate to them fine but they should not pull a 'Sopranos' type charity and mandate your giving.

While true, it was said up front to everyone that bought a ticket that if it got cancelled, they would only refund 90%. IIRC, they put it on a disclaimer when you chose to buy a ticket too.

It was a fundraiser more than anything else.

Yeah it was $10 bucks per person and empty promises is what it seems like. Someone was cutting their losses.

How much went for adminstrative costs, like.....ummmmmm.....salaries?
