According to the most recent FBI data, hate crimes targeting religion are roughly on par with those targeting sexual orientation (I've already cited this data to Kristen higher up in this thread).

But you won't learn that here, because you choose not to hear data that might upset your delicate snowflake psyche.

That is more than a bit misleading. I didn't find the breakdown for that year, but in 2012, about 60% of the religious hate crimes were against Jews and 11% against Muslims. One wonders how much of that is against each other. However, only about 9% was against Christians, which is by far and away the most dominant religious group in the U.S. Considering how many Christians there are, as opposed to the much much smaller number of homosexuals, it is significant that there is more violence against against gays than all religions. That means the average homosexual has an exponentially higher chances of being a victim of a crime because of bias than is a religious person.

Participating in "a sin" and discriminating based on genetic traits ain't the same thing.

If someone doesn't think that interracial marriages should happen. They shouldn't have to bake a cake celebrating it.

Does it matter if everyone can decide what is a "sin"? Do you really want any cult getting to decide what is a "sin" and then be protected by the government?

It used to be. But society has changed. Even though the Bible endorsed slavery, we have evolved. In 50 years, everyone will consider the church's resistance to homosexuals as a historic novelty in the same way.

The Catholic Church has been around for 2,000 years with the same beliefs regarding the purpose of sex and marriage. I think Catholic beliefs can survive intact despite the redefinition of marriage by 5 Supreme Court justices.

For about 1900 years of that, the Catholic church thought slavery was just fine as well. I haven't heard the Pope endorsing that recently.
