If it is "true", why not share the link? Fox News sometimes repeats a false anecdote and runs with it.

There is not a long laundry list.

Too busy getting the link to the latest news...

EARTH REVOLES AROUND THE SUN ONCE IN 364.25 DAYS!!!

This is big....

You do realize that your kids have the same probability of being gay if they don't see any Pride parades or if you take them to see the parade.

You can pretend gays don't exist, but it doesn't change the statistics about your kid, and every other kid.
I don't see anyone here pretending gays don't exist. Did I miss it? Also, what statistics regarding kids are you referring to?

Very interested in the liberal point of view on the SCOTUS statements in Post #72.

Lol!!! Are you saying the Earth does not revolve around the Sun?

Nope. You are the expert on that. And imaginary laundry lists.

If you don't know of a laundry list of bakers, photos, and catering companies that have been sued, just admit you don't.

It ain't that uncommon for people to repeat Fox News nonsense.

The probability of the kids being born gay.

Almost all gay kids are born to heterosexual parents.

Why did it take a Supreme Court decision?
Because bigotry and hatred die a slow death if left in the hands of the small minded people who frequently make up state legislatures and congress.
All of the religious nuts need to realize that this SCOTUS ruling does nothing to you or your beloved bigoted belief system. You as an individual do not have to recognize gay marriage, just as you do not have to recognize racial equality or gender equality. Your church does not have to perform gay marriages. You are free to keep you small closed minds closed and remain as bigoted as you ever were.
Most people with intelligence realize that gays did not make a choice to be gay, they were born that way. And since they were born that way, religious types must then believe that it was by god’s design. After all, if it wasn’t by god’s design then god’s design is imperfect so thereby god is imperfect. To condemn gays then is to condemn god’s imperfections which there appears to be countless cases of.
One final thought. There was a time in our country’s history that I could not have married my Chinese wife due to the same type of small minded bigotry and hatred that the gays have had to deal with. I’m sure some of you bigots probably believe that we should not have been allowed to marry. To those I say F**K you!

The demographics of sexual orientation and gender identity in the United States have come to light in the social sciences in recent decades. In the first large-scale government survey measuring Americans’ sexual orientation, the NHIS reported in July 2014 that 1.6 percent of Americans identify as gay or lesbian, and 0.7 percent considered themselves bisexual.[1] In a Williams Institute review based on an June-September 2012 Gallup poll, approximately 3.4 percent of American adults identify themselves as being LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender).[2] An earlier report published in April 2011 by the Williams Institute estimated that 3.8 percent of Americans identified as gay/lesbian, bisexual, or transgender: 1.7 percent as lesbian or gay, 1.8 percent as bisexual, and 0.3 percent as transgender.[3] The 2011 Williams Institute report also states that 8.2 percent of Americans reported that they had engaged in same-sex sexual behavior, and 11 percent reported some same-sex attraction. Studies from several nations, including the U.S., conducted at varying time periods, have produced a statistical range of 1.2 to 5.6 percent of the adult population identifying as LGBT.[3] Online surveys tend to yield higher figures than other methods,[4] a likely result of the higher degree of anonymity of Internet surveys, which elicit reduced levels of socially desirable responding.[5]

I'm not religious, couldn't care less if folks want to marry a tree. It's militant homosexuals who have turned me off from "the cause". These days, you now have to participate in the marriage if you're in the service industry and want to keep your livelihood. A Christian baker, florist, photographer should not have to compromise their belief system and facilitate what they see as immoral activities. See my links above.

That's silly IMO. Would you want to be an employee with shared medical expenses for eight women pregnant at once? That's a non religious, practical way to look at it.

We don't have limits on how many children you can put on your insurance policy, so what's the difference?

I am sure our justice system will crumble under the burden of gay couples suing pizza companies in Indiana for refusing to cater weddings.

Looks like we have different definitions of "lengthy".

No, it appears we have a different definition of "imaginary". I never said "lengthy" but I'd call 4 high profile cases "enough". If you dig deeper, there are others. Like the pizza place in Indiana, who only said they wouldn't serve a gay wedding.

It's not bigotry and hatred, it's preserving the freedom to differ in beliefs about marriage.

Religious people are not by definition any more bigoted than you. Often they have very large and encompassing views about love and tolerance. It's unfair and inaccurate to call them bigoted.

Most people truly don't care if someone is gay, or who marries who. There are, of course, hateful people, but they often have no religion at all. Taboos about a lot of social customs have dropped away. But showing consideration and care for others' beliefs, I hope, can be preserved. It's pretty shaky at the moment.

The issue is religious freedom, not overloading the justice system.

Interview with Barronelle Stutzman, the florist in my town who is being sued by a gay couple (friends whom she served for 10 years) and by our State Attorney General.

I ask Aunt Peggy and all who cherish tolerance and love to note, especially, that the florist and the customer resolved their situation peacefully. It broke on social media, and that is where the Attorney General was directed by hateful people who could not allow a reasonable resolution as ALREADY ACHIEVED by the florist and customer.

BREAM: Did you have any idea you would end up where you are today when you made that decision?

STUTZMAN: No. Because Rob and -- when Rob came in and -- and told me he was getting married, and I told him the reason I couldn't do his wedding, we talked about how he got engaged, and we talked about his mom and maybe his mom could walk him down the aisle and he asked me if I had any other florist that I could recommend, and I did recommend three because I knew they'd do a good job for him, and I knew he wanted something special. And we hugged each other and he left.

BREAM: And from what I understand, he was able to get services elsewhere from -- from one of the folks that you recommended. But Kristen, this snowballed into something for a lot of people would be very unexpected from that conversation that you think is a friendly refusal to participate for very private reasons.

WAGGONER: Yes. The attorney general contacted the couple. They didn't file the initial complaint. The attorney general took it on after reading reports in the media. And the attorney general has relentlessly pursued Barronelle ever since. The court's decision, as well as the attorney general's actions are sending a very clear unmistakable message Barronelle and anyone like her which is that if you dare to decline the government will bring about your personal and your professional ruin if you don't help celebrate same-sex marriage.

Activists are always going to want more than tolerance and equality
and the pandering politicians will be there grinning.
Already if your not a believer that same sex marriage is marriage and disagree with the SCOTUS, but still give your willing consent of the governed to accept this law, your being attacked with name calling. You must not disagree with it. Watch and
see where this goes. Mark my words.

Just a nit: some of the statutes struck down by the SCOTUS decision were actually constitutional amendments added by popular referendum.

It's not bigotry and hatred, it's preserving the freedom to differ in beliefs about marriage.
You are still free to believe that marriage should be between one man and one woman. What you can't do under Obergefell is create a law that imposes that belief on everyone else.

How would you feel about the case if the couple Stutzman refused to serve was interracial or interfaith, instead of gay?

Brilliant!

To those who are so disappointed in the decision...

* I support your right to believe my marriage of 35 years is not valid and should never have been allowed.
* I support your right to not understand that the Supreme Court has always "evolved" along with the country, and that this decision is not part of a new trend.
* I even support your right to believe that Obama was not born in the if you hold that belief.

You have every right to believe what you want.

We live in a democracy. With all its problems, corruption, and gridlock, it's the best form of government man has invented.

If you knew me, you might...just might...over time realize I'm a good person and that my marriage does nothing to harm anyone.

Or you might continue to believe otherwise. That's OK.

In the words of RuPaul, "What you think of me is none of my business."

Time to move on...

Why should the government be involved in personal matters as long as people don't get hurt? I am happy being married to my wife who is a wonderful woman. My friend and colleague is happy being married to his husband. My wife and I don't hurt other people and force our beliefs on others. Neither does my colleague and his husband. So who should really care? Isn't America about basic freedom? It never should have gotten to the point where the SC had to rule. IMO, government should not interfere in these personal matters.

Actually we do not live in a Democracy, but that's a different argument. Didn't the voters in CA pass Prop 8? In a Democracy same sex marriage would not be valid in CA at this point?

Oh stop....that's just ridiculous....having voters speak is so passe.:goofy:

You're still free to believe that you're the Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz. You can even pass a law that says people have to treat you like Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz. What you can't do is change the fact that you're not.

Me, I simply want to be Sweedish -- tall, blond and muscular. SCOTUS, make it so!

I was taught that marriage is between a man and a woman. I found this in a book I own called the Bible.

In MA pre this decision it was already illegal for an individual to refuse to marry same sex couples. Mind you there is absolutely no shortage of clergy willing to marry gays in MA. And with so many options why you'd want to force someone who doesn't agree with you to
marry you is deranged. That's gay guys for ya, with that fixed look of surprise on their faces, seems mental development went off the rails as toddlers leaving permanent imbecile grin.

Agree on both points. It wound up in the court system because the plaintiffs weren't satisfied with keeping it a personal matter; they were seeking the tangible government benefits that go with marriage. It wound up at the Supreme Court because they weren't satisfied with the circuit court ruling that said it was a state issue.

Can you cite chapter and verse? Seems like Solomon had 600 wives. But that seems impractical today...
