Just figured I'd say hi from the Apollo room :)

Well, let's have an unbiased review. :wink2: I hope they all the good movie channels.

pics or it didn't happen :wink2:

Love that place! The wife and I had a great time down there last year, and will probably be doing that trip again. Hopefully the weather will allow us to fly it this time.

Not easy to provide an unbiased review by a pilot in an aviation-themed hotel. :)

Movie channels? Movie channels?? What are you talking about? Oh right, now I vaguely remember, there might have been a TV in the room. Never turned it on. We used the room to sleep at night. And we were at the beach all day and in local establishments in the evening.

Breakfast is pretty darn good, you get coffee, tea, milk, whatever you choose with pastries of your choice and other stuff. The selection was pretty wide, can't remember all the yummy stuff. You can probably find the menu on their webpage.

We were happy guests and will definitely return (once our work and life schedule allows).

Did you fly in? Details on the flight/landing/FBO experience!

If you fly in and are the first pilot guest to arrive that weekend, you get to use the courtesy car parked at the airport.
The FBO seems to be usually closed and has envelopes by the door to pay the overnight tie-down fee of $5/night. Very reasonable for the nice airport.
Paved runway over a kilometer, great condition. Nice approach over the beach.

LOTS of great places to eat, whether sea food or steak, doesn't matter.

My wife and I spent a weekend there a number of years ago. Jay was just getting started on the re-model project, so I haven't seen the finished product yet.

There are lots of food and adult beverage places within walking distance or very short drives. We had a great time.

We do have it high on our list of "places to go back", but we are still working on our list of "places to go for the first time".

Well, we were avoiding talk of Jay, trying to keep this thread on a high note. :D

Jay has a coupon on my app "Airport Courtesy Cars" for instructions on using his Lexus car. Search for it in your app phone store.

Is that the one with aliens monitoring your every move?

I don't know about aliens.. But... the web cams located in the alarm clock, coffee machine and tissue paper holder in the bathroom are streaming on the net right now.....:yikes:....:hairraise:.....:D

Go out to the pool and use the human spatula. It will make Jay feel good.

Hey, now! You guys are having an awful great time in the Apollo Room without me! :)

What's funny is that I had no idea Kai was here until I received a PM here on POA -- AFTER he had checked out! We were out flying all day yesterday, out drinking all last night, and then I worked till 2 AM -- so I COMPLETELY missed him!

What really sucks is that he didn't get to use his free certificate for passing his checkride! Something about "forgetting it at home", or the "dog ate it", or something...
;)

Glad you had fun! If you guys really want to see pix, here are some: http://ameliaslanding.com/apollo_room.htm

Yeah, you guys have to come back, now that I'm working on the very last room. You won't recognize the joint!

Well, actually, it looks exactly the same on the outside. But every room has been gutted and redone since you were here! :)

...I'll bring my wife down at some point...

I'm flying with a buddy down to KRAS on Friday...going to play a round of golf over at Palmilla. Should be a great day for it...mid 60's, sunny and wind >10mph...

Got one room left for Friday night, if you want it. We are sold out Saturday, of course, thanks to Valentine's Day.

Those are just the ADA mandated "fall monitors" for the same reason Jay had to install the pool lift. ;)

Waiting for Jay to finish the Jungle Room like the one at Graceland? :yesnod:
Mary won't let me do cool stuff like that. She keeps going on about "no kitsch" and "luxurious", while all I want is a B-17 belly turret hanging from the ceiling!

Well, I think we all agree that Jay and Mary are great hosts. I made an effort to meet them when we spent our time at their hotel on the island.

Jay, when I get my IR ticket, I forget, what do I get? A Margarita? A ride in the RV? Both? :D

And a gunner positioned in the turret so you wake up to him eyeballing you...

A B-17 stopped by here a couple years ago for a CAF open house. I got a close-up look at the ball turret. You need to be nimble, and small, to fit in one of those things. So if you put that into the Honeymoon Suite be prepared to cut the guests out when they get stuck in the hatch.

I guess it just gives me a reason to head south again. For what it's worth, I left Port Aransas wearing shorts and a t-shirt...later that evening I landed at MSP where the windchill was -11....and jetbridge heat is a joke :)

Same thing happened to me. Left Texas in shorts, Hawaiian shirt and sandals in mid 80's (temperature, not decade :) ). When I arrived in Michigan, I opened the door, hopped out and was greeted by some stray flurries and people staring at me, asking "do you need help, sir?"
They looked absolutely confused, probably thinking which institution I escaped from. I corrected their thinking with one simple sentence "I came from Texas".
But maybe I should have tried "Take me to your leader" instead. :D
