Lycoming SB 593A, annuals are fun!

I would suggest they send the cylinders to a cylinder shop for installation of the valves and proper honing of the cylinder bores. You do not want a "buddy ball" hone job on $3,000 cylinders. While they are doing that might as well check the exhaust valves and guides. Charlie Melot Zephyr Engines

I'd agree with Charlie's recommendation. Otherwise, not a whole lot else I can recommend. Sorry to hear you're in for another big annual.

A Lycoming in a professional series cessna, blasphemy!!!

I can't believe this thread hasn't blown up with warnings and tales of mechanic induced failures yet, all for a service bulletin that is not an AD (or is it?)

I wonder if anyone would have skipped this SB?

You can count on it, especially if someone else wasn't picking up the bill. Also, I'd guess that there are a number of mechanics that wouldn't ever even look at the service bulletins.

Seems like a very expensive move to pay to replace the valves on hundreds of aircraft if it wasn't really an important issue.

Not expensive at all. Next Lycoming engine or engine parts you buy, you will have made your contribution to the valve replacement.

Yeah, but look at the modern corporate structure lol.

I bet for less than half the price he could have got a cherry U206, IO550, black Mac prop, extensions, factory seaplane anti corrosion kit, vgs, panel, BAS harness, etc etc.

And for less than half the price of a new Meridian you can buy a 441. That comparison can be made with anything. What's your point? Some people want a new plane and like what it has to offer.

We should be happy that there are people buying new plane. Without them, those of us who buy used planes will eventually run out of supply since we keep on crashing the damn things.
