My back surgeon is in Vail Colorado. I have broke my back again and need to see him. Dr. Peters. He is the surgeon for the Denver bronco's and one of the best. He operated on my neck and I am so much better.

Living in Illinois they want to bandage it or keep me on pain killers. I need surgery not pain killers.

I am looking for someone who might want to help me. I need a place to stay as I go through this. My wife will take FMLA so she can take care of me. I can barley walk.

I am not a rich person or I would rent me an apartment. The wife and I can not afford this.

I do not know what else to do. I NEED HELP.

Sorry to hear this. If I was up there, I would lend you a room in a heartbeat.

Sorry for your troubles, good luck on your request.

Wish I could help. If you find a surgeon in the Catskills that you like, you're welcome to my guest room.

Rich

I can not thank you all enough. I have Osteoporosis. It takes nothing for me to break and it always happens in my back.

The problem lies all I have for insurance is medicare. Dr. Peters does not care that is all I have, he told me to move back to Colorado and he would take care of me.

Is it an option to see someone closer? When I broke my back in an accident, Dirk Alander at SLU in STL fixed me right up. An added bonus being he's a pilot and owns a 210. (Disclaimer: I'm no expert and he's the only spine doc I know, so I can't really compare him to others, but he was highly recommended for me.)

LA area. I can not travel that far. No idea what to do now. All hope is gone. I can not live like this. Jan. 1st I get humana but I can not live like this until then.

Thanks for all the help.

Tony

I wouldn't loose hope. Call him. Meanwhile folks need to know that you need help in Newport Beach.

He may suggest another surgeon that still services in Vail too.

Yes that is Doctor Peters. I am loosing all hope now.

You do realize even Orange County is cheaper than Vail, right?

You don't have to stay in Newport Beach. Lots of college students are in Irvine and Costa Mesa. There is even an airport very close by (KSNA). Even Newport Beach isn't THAT expensive unless you need to tie up a boat at home or walk to the beach. Compared to Vail in any case.

Why can't you travel that far?
I mean hell, this is a website full of plane owners.

Surely someone can help you get there

The area is well served by Southwest. It's easy to get plane tickets there and FAR cheaper than Vail, even from thousands of miles away.

I just peeked. Southwest has a special from Chicago to Orange County for $327 one way tomorrow. St. Louis is $550 regular unrestricted.

You would spend more than that driving to Vail from Illinois. And it would be much more comfortable and wildly faster in a purple 737.

There are a lot of very, very good surgeons in Illinois, especially at Rush. St. Louis and Wash U also will have excellent surgeons. Can't see a real reason to travel halfway across the country for an evaluation and go through all of the expense when there are fine spine specialists a lot closer. What happens if you have surgery so far away and then develop a complication or other problem- are you going to fly back there for follow up visits or physical therapy?

Tony; With you and Dr. Bruce Chien in the same parts of Illinois, I wonder if contacting for a referral would help you.

I can barely walk to the bathroom using two canes. No way I can stand for any length of time. I can barely set here and type. I really need to be laying down 24-7.

Thanks again to everyone for taking time to post here. God Bless you all.

If this is Todd Peters, he moved back to Orange County in California.

Tony...call Dr Peters and see if he can recommend some one closer to you.

No doctor has a monopoly on care. Find another doctor.

Sorry I cannot help you but I agree with the above. Seek out Dr Bruce an get a referal to someone closer. Or you just may contact Dr Peters to see what he says.
Best of luck.

Tony, can you sit for a while on a commercial carrier? If not, there have to be docs in Chicago or St. Louis who can help. There are some really great hospitals in both cities. I'm east coast so can't offer more that suggestions and good wishes. Look don't give up. It's stinks but I really believe you can find help closer by.

I think you and others missed something. He wants to find a good doctor that is willing to only accept whatever medicare pays since he wrote "The problem lies all I have for insurance is medicare. Dr. Peters does not care that is all I have[....]"

Flying airplanes is chump change expense when compared to the cost of that kind of surgery.

Which begs the question, why is California a no-go? $350 one way is unaffordable? 4 hours in a 737 vs. 20 in a car to get to Vail?

It almost sounds like there is a warrant out.

I sent you a PM about lodging potential in Edwards, CO.

Good point.

Have you considered euthanasia?

If I did not believe in our Lord I would do as Robin Williams did.

The numbness in my feet has reached a new level. I thought my feet where numb before, it was nothing compared to now.

I also have a hip that has only a 1/4 of its bone mass left. That hip is killing me. Not sure if the two are related or if indeed I did fracture that bad hip.

Hang in there Tony, this too shall pass, ignore the troll. I hope you find some relief soon.

How old are you Tony?
By your profile pic I'd guess 30 something...

Well, since you probably already altered the Lord's plan for you at some prior medical intervention, you're not likely to be I trouble with that. None of us live a natural life anymore.

Henning, WFT? In another thread you're suggesting compassion for a young man who killed his child, yet your pithy remark here is euthanasia?

I mostly enjoy your views on topics, but this is one was uncalled for. You are one strange cat, and you owe this man an apology.

If you have never experienced chronic nerve pain, then you may not understand my compassion. Everybody dies, if you manage to live past your time, things don't usually go very pleasantly for people.

Total cost of my aortic valve replacement last winter would buy a nice late 80's - early 90's A36.

My portion (co-pays, deductible, etc.) of the expense was 1.5x my total annual operating budget for the Mooney.

AND, I'm not in the air yet. Aeromedical will require more tests totaling an additional 5 AMU minimum.

Bah. Genetics. :(

I just may white flag on flying.

After watching both parents go to lung cancer, I agree 100%. But there are more tactful ways of handling the subject.

I am 53. At the age of 24 I broke my back for the first time. I was working under a truck and reached for a jack, when I pulled on the jack I broke my back. In my 20's I broke my back twice.

This really hit me at age 42. I spend most my 40's in the hospital and bedridden. During this time I broke my neck and my back two more times.

To date I have crushed 6 vertebra in my back and two in my neck. They had to fuse the two in my neck for I could not use my hands. I could not even feed myself.

Tony

Damn. I guess I'll stop whining about my shoulder.
Is it something genetic that makes you susceptible to this or just a series of bad luck?

Sorry to pry. I'm just curious.

jeez, sorry about your situation. I personally don't know of any doctors or people out west that may be able to help you out, sorry man. hoping for a speedy recovery!
