I finally decided to fly to Osh from Dallas instead of Taos (KADS-KGRB ). I am staying in Green Bay for various reasons, mainly I didn't make reservations before this morning. Anyway, it is 800NM from Dallas. I am looking for a good place to stop and grab lunch at about the 500 mile mark give or take. I am not one of those guys trying to save every nickel, it's about maximizing the experience and having fun.

Suggestions?

The "We-Be-Smokin" BBQ restaurant in the FBO at Miami county airport (K81) just south of the Kansas City mode C ring. It's more like halfway rather than at the 500nm point though.

That does look good, thanks. I'll have to think about 450 miles of flying with a BBQ comatose. Huuummm.

My first few times flying to Oshkosh, we'd always stop there on the way up for breakfast. They make awesome omelettes. They don't serve BBQ until after 10:30am its breakfast food before then. On the way home from Oshkosh, we'd stop there again for BBQ. Since I started flying RVs I've only been back once, in 2012 and forgot how good the BBQ is. I tried to go there last year on my way home, but low clouds and rain had the airport totally socked in and I had to go way around the west side of KC, almost to western Kansas to get around the weather before I could turn back south towards Texas.

Neal-

Thanks again. I am thinking that would be perfect on the way back.

Another vote for WeBSmoking bbq. I usually go up to K34 for cheap gas before on the way back.

I'll be stopping at Coles County KMTO for lunch. A little farther north for you but seems to have good food.

We B Smokin' is indeed a decent stop.

If you want something a bit nicer. Then stop at K15 (grand glaize airport @ lake of the ozarks) and call Tan-Tar-A. Their van will be at the airport before you're done fueling and you can eat here:

Thanks, I'm thinking about it, adds about 70 miles.

Hmmm...do I see a lunch fly-in coming this fall?

It is a great resort. Old, been around for a long time, but extremely well maintained.

Oh, and if you have floats, you can taxi right up to the back door. They have a designated "seaplane base" (whatever they're actually called) tan-tar-a (19T).
