When flying inverted, remember to chant "Down is Up, Up is EXPENSIVE"

If you're only a few feet behind someone, use guns, not missiles.

When your ass starts hurting on a long x-country, fly inverted for a bit.

If she doesn't wash her feet, she probably doesn't wash her ***** either.

Alcohol makes the chicks look thinner, the mountains look smaller and the runways look longer.

I broke out right at minimums.

Fly certified. Homebuilts always seem to shed a wing at the most inopportune time.

1. Lean forward if having trouble clearing a departure obstacle.
2. Try to get compliments on the accuracy of your instruments.
3. According to the boards, the following AC have the following flaws
a. Cirrus AC explode on impact
b. 182's all have bent firewalls from being nose heavy
c. Tigers wings fall off due to delamination of glue
d. All experimental accidents are pilot error as they spent too
much time building and none flying
4. Most of the "experts" around here fly 4 hours every 2 years
5. CFI stands for Can't Fly Inverted
6. ATITPPA is frowned upon by GA < 2500 lbs but approved for
AC > 12500
7. "Line up and wait" is now used at the FBO counters when requesting
service

It is better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air than the other way around.

And:

When you are sitting there dead you will have lots of time to think about how you could have waited.

Actually, there are some legit hacks I've read on here, but I either can't find them or don't know enough to repeat them accurately (still working on instrument rating).

For example. There seemed to be several tricks one could use, legally, to get a desired routing that had to do with filing multiple flight plans, or filing from a point, or something. This is a "hack" in the sense that it exploits a behavior of the system in a way that's beneficial to the pilot.

As a VFR only pilot, one hack I like is using the OBS mode on the 430 to give me an extended runway center line. Helps even coming in to the home field when I can't see the airport yet. "Expect straight in 18R" means to me to intercept the centerline a few miles from the airport and go straight in.

Based on my (limited) experience, I found going to KORL (Orlando executive) to be much easier having already been on flight following. This is a hack (again, exploiting properties of the system in novel ways) because getting FF before I got to KORL meant I didn't have to worry about the busy airspace as much. Everyone along the way was expecting me. Can you do it without? sure. But man, it made it easy.

I'm sure there are others, and I'm intentionally omitting rules of thumb and shortcuts for calculating things. IMHO, what's being asked for here are ways to work the system that are legal, and safe, but not obvious.

VFR-only pilots don't get routings, they give them. :D

Here, I'll give you some real ones.

- Use sectional charts as sun shades. Unfold and place it above the glare shield. Instant sun shade. This beats buying those expensive foil ones.

- Seat belt as a control lock. Don't have a control lock? loop seat belt around control yoke to hold in a rearward one aileron down position.

- Bungee cord as a control lock. seat belts are not long enough to use? connect a bungee cord around the two yokes

- Forget a checklist? Take a picture of your checklist, then its always with you on your phone.
