A good overnight destination on the West Coast?

For breakfast there is a great little diner on the boardwalk north of AT&T Park. Used to sail over there fro breakfast as often as possible.

For cioppino check out Chowhound: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/602076

There's a Trattoria near the corner of Union and Mason I'm waiting to try and hear is very good.

the train on the Peninsula will leave you at the ballpark as previously mentioned. It's several blocks to Market Street then several more to interesting places. From the ballpark you can take the trolley along the harbor all the way to the main tourist spots including ferry rides to Alcatraz and bay tours on the water.

From Oakland you can catch BART right to downtown. Need a shuttle from the airport to BART. The folks at the Jet Center are very nice to small GA, shocked me!

I don't understand why anyone would pay for a taxi from HND. Clark County runs a free shuttle to and from HND and anywhere on the strip. I've used it 3 times, most recently June 2012. The driver wouldn't even accept a tip on the grounds he was a county employee.

Good to know! Where do you find them at each end? The FBO gave me a ride into town it was the ride back out that hurt....

Thanks! You just increased the likelihood that I might visit Las Vegas.

Walk into the terminal, past the FBO fuel desk, to come to the west wall. To the right (north) of the doors that exit to car parking look for shuttle information posted about eye height on the wall.

You have to call for the shuttle, wait up 15 minutes are so at the longest. Tell the driver where you want to go. On the other end, call the shuttle and advise your pick-up location. You kept the shuttle phone number, right?

IKR. Taking time off work, packing the gear, driving to the aprt, flying from Smell A or wherever...you'll be dipped if you gonna pay $40 for a cab ride.

I'm cheaper than anyone, even I recognize the incongruity of it all.

I have a more coherent and convincing reason for avoiding sin city. The resemblances to Gomorrah are striking.

That is really good to know! I'm planning yet another trip there next week and I will have to fly into HND now and try taking that shuttle, at the rate I seem to be going there now that could save me a fortune. It is not through the FBO at all? And you can call them to be picked up from the strip, no charge?

I was curious myself as I have taken a taxi in then past. Google is your friend...

"Complimentary shuttle service to the Las Vegas Strip and surrounding hotel/casinos is available and departs at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. daily. Reservations are required and can be made via Unicom 122.95 or by calling 702-261-4800 one hour prior to your arrival."

Well, I know about that shuttle - and have taken it before. It is one way though. Richard is saying there is a separate shuttle that will take you both to the strip and pick you up; this I was unaware of.

IIRC, there are two separate shuttles. Maybe that has changed. I do know that on three different occasions when I flew into HND,

  • I called the phone number as listed in the terminal at HND to summon the shuttle.
  • Each time I waited no more than approx. 15 minutes, or less, for the shuttle to arrive in front of the terminal building.
  • I was driven to the location of my choice. (2 times, Mirage; 1 time, Bellagio)
  • The driver advised how to arrange a return to terminal at HND.
  • I repeated the process in reverse and was returned to the terminal at HND.
  • Each time the driver refused my offer of a monetary tip.
One return trip I did have to wait approx. 45 minutes. That particular trip was not direct to HND, the driver headed almost to Boulder to pick-up a couple to bring them to HND. The other two return trips involved minimal waiting.

Did I get lucky in unknowingly arriving to HND in time to coordinate with shuttle schedule?
