One of my interior door handles stripped out Thursday. I don't know how long Cessna used the same style that is in mine but what I do know is that these are an exact match for mine.

And I do mean exact*...

FYI

(Not that I'd ever order something like this for a plane of course ;) )

* of course, I guess it's possible that they're an exact match because someone already installed '63 Falcon handles in my plane.

I haven't the foggiest notion what you are referring to.

Aircraft manufacturers often used auto parts for items like this back in the 40's through early 70's.

I have often been amused at the fact that Bellanca Super Vikings used the same inside door handles as 1961-1964 Chevrolet Impala, Buick LeSabre, Oldsmobile 88, etc. Sold as airplane parts, the price increases dramatically.,

Just like a late 40's Chevy vent window handle is an exact match for your window.

Just sayin......

Yup, first time I tried to close the door on my 170, I twisted the handle to lock it like any 172 I has flown. Completely broke the latch. That was a painful lesson.

Hmmm...might have to pick up a couple if I can find them. Mine are okay for now but...

Thanks for the tip. I knew about the Falcon handles but I didn't know that one.

A rumor is running around that the Cardinal guys like the automotive handles better due to the splines being bade with a steel sleeve, so I am told.

Not that I'd EVER put something like that in my 182A, but what year and make did you say? If you really mean '63 Ford Falcon, where in the devil did you find them?

Jim

And is the '63 Falcon the only year/model that used these? I'm not sure how Cessna got them in '58 if they weren't used by Ford for another 5 years.

Jim

Jim,

See the link in my original post. It also fit earlier ford models, like the '57 to '63 ranchero.

BTW...these are still available at O'Reilly, Advance, & Zone for about $7. A lot easier than using a screwdriver and far less chance of damaging the door panel. "Door handle removal tool"

Using automotive parts in a plane...... Oh the horror....:hairraise:..:yikes:....

Next thing ya know, some idiot will stuff a car engine in a plane.......;)..

Slightly off-topic (model wise)
Apparently the overhead trim crank in my Cherokee is the same as a '56 Studebaker window crank. Good thing they're tough and I've never need to replace. Don't know where I'd look for a '56 Studebaker ANYTHING....

Automotive parts? Even better- the 40s and 50s Cessnas borrowed heavily from 1930s tractor technology.

You can actually find a lot of early Cessna engine parts at TSC.

A shop towel, washrag, T-shirt... works just as well, and on hand.

Updating an old thread... 72 Cessna 172M... 1951-1956 Ford Thunderbird Door Handle BN 7022614-A

Good find. Even in the description:

1312643X1 WINDOW HANDLE
1312643X1 INSIDE WINDOW HANDLE CRANK WITH BLACK KNOB FOR 1956-1961 CARS AND 1966 CARS
IT HAS ALSO BEEN REPORTED TO REPLACE PIPER CHEROKEE TRIM ADJUSTMENT CRANK FROM THE EARLY 1950S

Also, I'm told if I ever need to replace the door handle, I'm going to have to look at old Volkswagon Beetle part catalogs.

Even a better match is: https://www.falconparts.com/ford-falcon-auto-parts/pc/Handles-c156.htm

There was no visible difference between the most of the parts. The handle spring is absolutely indistinguishable from the Cessna part.
