Great Lakes Meet Up

Dave G is going to come up from Warren County in his zenith

If anyone wants to goto the AF museum or do anything else around the area and needs wheels, let me know and I can get my spare car (read as: beater, not as classy as Vandy's Benz, but its got character) down there.

I'll be there... probably drive, as to fly I'd have to drive by Moraine on I-75, get the plane, fly back up to Moraine, and not drink beer.

Just what are you trying to say about the benz!!! lol

OK, Heard about the T-Craft, Bummer

Yeah, no biggie, nothing other than some smell and wasted avgas, and time :D Safetywiring the wingtank caps shut next :D Should have taken a pic or two, it was running out of everywhere!

Definitely have training tomorrow so I can't make it. Hopefully another time. I hope you all have a good time.

The forecast is for very gusty conditions (to at least 25 to 30 kts per the discussion), both up here and down there. I'll wait til morning for a final decision, but this might be no-go for me.

I will have to see how winds are as well. It looks like it is going to be almost right down the runway at both runways that i am using.

If it's right down the runway then the only issue will be how high I can go and how bumpy it is there. I won't go through the clouds if there's ice and flying in moderate turbulence isn't my idea of fun. But right now some of the TAFs are showing a significant crosswind component, at least up here. It depends on what the wind field forecasts look like tomorrow, mostly. Right now it looks like the strong stuff should be out of the area by 18Z or so, but that's at least 24 hours out from issuance time and isn't consistent with the latest TAFs. I don't want to have to delay leaving for home so as to land after dark.

showing 14G24 at 280 for KDAY after 1100 lcl, the runway at I73 is 260. Not sure what the departure points are going to be like.

Looks like the gusts start going away as the afternoon approaches.

Yeah, scattered doesn't count as clouds for me. You don't even have to try to find a hole to get through, because there's more holes than clouds.

Hopefully. Last I read there was a cold front coming through overnight that they were saying might bring a chance of light precip. Not sure about MVFR clouds, but the system that brought us the rain left about 4 hours after originally forecast. If things are behind schedule, I wouldn't put that beyond the realm of possibility.

As I said, wait and see...

Okay here's the latest discussion out of DTX...

A WEAK LOW TRACKING THROUGH NORTHERN LOWER MICHIGAN WILL BRING OCCASIONAL CLOUD COVER TO MBS OVERNIGHT. OTHERWISE VFR CONDITIONS AND MOSTLY CLEAR SKIES ARE EXPECTED DURING THE OVERNIGHT HOURS OVER THE TAF SITES. METAR OBSERVATIONS SHOW SOME LIGHT FOG DEVELOPING...THEREFORE WILL PUT IN SOME MVFR FOG WITH BRIEF DIPS TO IFR POSSIBLE. A COLD FRONT MOVING THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING WILL TURN WINDS NORTHWESTERLY WITH WINDS GUSTING TO 25 TO 30 KNOTS DURING THE LATE MORNING AND INTO THE AFTERNOON HOURS. THIS FRONT WILL ALSO MIX OUT THE LIGHT FOG DURING THE EARLY MORNING. A RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE WILL BRING WIND SPEEDS DOWN DURING THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING HOURS...BECOMING LIGHT BY SATURDAY NIGHT.

The new forecast wind field images show the nasty stuff moving out of SE MI by 20Z. Still strong down around I73 but pretty much down the runway. This looks like it could be a go...

No arguments here

Rise and shine everybody. We'll see everyone there.

Tim, where is your hangar located?

I will be there between 1000 & 1030.

Cheers

Not gonna make it, I have a Travel Air asking for my attention.

TAFs now show a modest 12 kts out of 300, a little stronger down there but still nothing bad. Moderate turbulence airmet for the whole area. I'm in for now, but will continue to monitor pireps.

I see nothing but blue skies here.

Must be scattered at a billion feet. Yay forecasts!

Winds at PTK now at 16G24KT out of 330. That's 60* off the runway and starting to get out of my comfort zone. Still docile at DAY. Concern is about the return trip and whether the forecast of weakening winds is reliable.

Gorgeous here at PMH, Portsmouth, OH too. Winds 300/5. Clear. Departing in about 20 minutes.

I'm really disappointed that I couldn't make it but I'm boiling up 20# of these little guys right now along with 10# of shrimp.

Not a bad consolation prize!

Hope you guys had a great time and everyone made (makes) it home safe and sound.

Wish I could have made it. Is this a once a year thing, or more often?

Back home safe. Light-mod turbulence at 5500, 13C. My family really enjoyed ourselves, great food and hospitality. We'll see you at the next event.

I host it once a year. Anyone else that wants to have one at their local airport is welcome to do so. It makes for a great apps here to relax, talk with old friends and make some new friends. I would be happy to share my list with anyone interested in hosting an event.

Doctor Bruce and Sue just dropped us off at Lewis, and we're home. Thanks to Tim for suggesting we could come together, and to Bruce for agreeing to it! They should be home soon. It was great seeing everyone again! Tim & Jeannette, thanks so much for putting this on, and pass along our thanks to Art for manning the grill!
