Great Lakes Meet Up 1/18 or 1/19

I am keeping a list for both Saturday and Sunday so we will watch the weather. Lets plan on a decision early Sat morning say by 1300Z that should give us a good idea. We can communicate by POA.

If some would rather go on Sat and can file (if needed) go for it. I will still go with what the weather dictates.

Currently we have 19 souls and 8 aircraft for Saturday and 13 souls, 7 aircraft for Sunday

Or if we do it the following weekend, the 310 might be done. :D

And I might be able to join you. (Threat of which could swing this either way, I understand)

I, for one, would love to see you. :)

But definitely don't change it just for me.

Not looking very good at all for Saturday. Even with a current IR pilot on board. Maybe I'll just meet you guys at the April event.

I think that Leslie and I will try to get a plane for Sunday.

OVC005-020 3SM BR HZ M07. I'm still in.

Take 3 souls and one plane off the list for Saturday. We're staying local this weekend. Weather just doesn't seem enjoyable enough. Have fun. See you in the Spring!

Don't want people to get the wrong idea...if I *had* to be Indy for something my IR pilot friend could get me there, but for lunch we decided to stay local.

May I suggest that we go ahead an officially rule tomorrow out and then, tomorrow morning or afternoon (after the 1800z TAF update), decide whether Sunday is a go or to postpone until next week.

I'm still in, but a lot will depend on Tango airmets and wind direction. They are forecasting winds to gust 25-30 kts (actually over 30 mph) up here on Sunday afternoon.

I'm out. I might fly tomorrow if I had to (after a closer look in the AM) but it's shaping up to be one of those days that screams "stay on the ground" (when I don't have to fly).

Now they are predicting 12 gusting 21 at 250. The runway is 3-21.

Of course, that won't effect me. I'm driving.

The surface winds are one thing but, more importantly (to me at least) is that they're forecasting winds along my route to be over 40kts aloft...even as low as 3000'.

That'd beat the chit out of you, especially across the SE MO & SW IN in the hills.

Indy itself is forecast to be 43kts @ 3k, 47kts @ 6k, & 53kts @ 9k out of the WNW. Not pretty at all!

It'd make for a quick trip up but a two day trip home!

Well I'm out, based on what I'm seeing in the forecast. I'm not worried about landing at KEYE since the crosswind component would be about half the total wind speed and manageable. But SE Michigan/NE Indiana is supposed to have a 60+ kt low level jet (3000 ft) overhead by late afternoon, per ADDS. Surface wind gusts forecast to 31 kts at DTW. I'd probably see 190 KTAS on the way back, but landing would be no fun and I'm pretty sure there will be an airmet for low level turbulence over the whole area.

Being new here i was holding back so hopefully I could jump and surprise everyone with two new faces (better half included) last minute. But looking at the weather tomorrow in Michigan it looks like 20-30kt cross winds at my airport and probably an icing airmet to boot for non instrument legality.

Guess we are going to settle for snowmobiles until the weather is more conducive to flying...
But you have been warned....we will be making an appearance to a POA gathering near you in 2014...

Well, maybe the weekend after next? Next weekend we're busy.

Suggestions for a reschedule? I am available the next two Sundays. Good news is that i helped a friend get a wing in the air and the wheels down so we can think about re-mating the wing and fuselage.

Sounds like we should punt for tomorrow. We're out next Saturday. Sunday should be fine, or the weekend after.

When is the Super Bowl. Does that matter to anyone?

Sounds like everyone's going to shoot for next Sunday. I'm not sure if I can make that one, but I'll see -- if not, see y'all in April!

I think one of you Michiganders needs to plan something in southern MI, like maybe March or May. You always seem to be coming south. Maybe we need to be going North. I was on vacation in FL when you all went to the Tin Goose

What is this Super Bowl you speak of? My wife has some big mixing bowls, but I don't see why that should matter for our schedule. ;)

I'm open next Sunday, next Saturday is out.

The following weekend is my bride's birthday so I might oughta stay home.

Super Bowl should be the 2nd, not that I care either.

Both days?

One never knows! :)

This time of the year, the gathering will probably happen on the first good day and we'll only have a day or two's notice...so we likely can't schedule around conflicts, mine included.

It's again a bit too early to put too much faith in the forecast but, right now, neither day this coming weekend looks inviting.

me too but mother nature looks like she plans to be a b!tch that day!
