Great Lakes/Midwest April Lunch

Great, how many buns will you be bringing. I will pick up the balance.

We'll purchase 2 packs at the grocery store. I think there are 8 per pack. I'll probably get whole wheat ones or Rosen's.

BTW, We will probably do the Museum, too. I don't expect to fuel.

The City of Dayton resurfaced the runway in September of 2011. When they checked the actual measurement they discovered the error in available landing distance. It has been Notamed ever since. I guess no one knows how to get it changed in the AFD.
Or maybe they sent the change in, but it hasn't gone through yet. That's been known to happen too, it can take MANY cycles.

For planning purposes for those who want to see the Museum:

The web site is http://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/

A brief layout description of the three main buildings to help orient your visit might be useful. As you enter the Museum, you will pass thru the gift shop with a ton of aviation books and posters along with models, patches, clothes and other stuff.

The first building on the right is from the beginning thru WWI and on the left is WWII. The next building has the Korean War era on the right and SEA on the left. The Third Building is the Cold War era and Modern airplanes including the B-2. At the end is a round tower with ICBM's and other missiles.

The R&D hangar and the presidential airplanes are on the base proper and require a bus ride that fills up PDQ.

Hope this is useful. As I spent a lot of time at WPAFB in the Deveolpment Business feel free to ask questions about the airplanes developed from to 60's to now. If I don't know the answer, I can bluff my way thru.

Cheers

Skier,

The family that was coming at 0900 may not come till later now. Give me a call on the morning and I will update you on heir plans. I will be up by 0700

Fwiw I'm bringing 4 turkey burgers, mustard, cheese, chips, a tomato, a knife, and an 8 year old boy.

This should be fun!

I'll still be down around 0930 and help set things up or whatever if not playing bus driver / tour guide. :D

Cheers

Looks like my original destination is going to be stuck with convective tomorrow. I was planning on being there already so may be lucky enough to go back to plan A. Put me down as highly likely and I will bring some sweets to add to the spread. I didn't see dessert on the list :)

How many coming? All we have so far is cookies for the sweet tooth. Anything would be welcome.

Just myself. I have a good sweet in mind. :)

We just got back. We had GREAT attendance. There were 26 people there! Great company and great food! Only Dr. & Mrs Steingar and China made it to the museum, AFAIK. The rest of us just spent the time talking and eating!

Good to hear! I ended up not being able to come out; made it to the airport later than I'd have liked, then by the end of my lesson today I wasn't really in a great mood so I figured I'd just call it a day and head home instead of making too awful of a first impression with people :(

I did at least see you all as I taxied by the hangars, so that counts for something, right?

Sean and I made it home safe and in time for his race (and for the next renter).

You folks are more awesome in person than you are online and I hope to make many more of these!

Note to self - 3500' causes sick passenger. Going up to 7500 next time.

It was great meeting you Chris!

Thanks again to Tim for the great party!

And, btw, there was some chop even up at 7000 today. Lots of thermals. Not sure where it stopped, but I doubt 7500 would have been high enough.

No my grill is not on fire. Its cooking greatness. Great turnout. Sorry I couldn't stay longer had work to do.

Was great seeing and meeting folks today - Tim, thanks so much for getting things together!

We had a few bumps heading home at 4500, but not too bad.

Smooth at 7500 bumpy at 6800 when we descended into Jackson

Yep, 2700, 4500 and 5500 were all garbage today. Over the lake was nice though.

It was quite nice meeting everyone and Tim was totally awesome to put it all together. Shame the weather looked a little threatening and we all scooted out of there. And the rv-10 was sweet!

Word on the street is next month will be tad more westerly:) at least Grant said so.

Glad you guys had good weather. It was LIFR here all day, couldn't even see the tops of cell towers.

We really enjoyed ourselves and chatting with everyone. The food was great! We had a good smooth flight back to PMH at 4500 except for a few bumps after hitting the hills. Looking forward to the next one. We stopped by the grocery store on the way home to pick up some ground chicken, feta cheese and spinach to make some chicken burgers like we had. Fly safe!

We had a really great time meeting everyone. Wayne's RV was awesome, Liv's airplane was wonderful, though I didn't like the paint as much, but it is up to her. And Tim and Geezer (and those who helped) did such a wonderful job setting everything up. Thank you so much for that, and for the ride to the Air Force Museum, which we enjoyed tremendously. We had a bumpy ride back at 3K, but it only lasted about a half hour, and I even did a good landing.

Whoa. I was hoping for maybe some good IFR weather to shoot a couple of approaches tomorrow, but if that's what is coming our way, then the heck with it, I don't want to have to leave the plane somewhere and bum a ride home.

Probably just as well too, I've got two exams to make up by Monday.

Thanks to all for the kind words. It was my pleasure to host this event for all of you and usher in Spring once and for all. Special thanks to Matt for jumping in and grilling for me and to my wife for helping as she did. I had a great time.

Anyone from the PTK area still in OH? A Bonanza pilot friend is looking for a ride today.

Thanks for all your work Tim and Commander Aero for their support. Kudos for a well arranged and hosted Picnic.

Great to put faces to names and have good conversations with all.

Cheers

Where in OH, Lance? I'm still flirting with the idea of getting in some actual, and MIGHT be able to run down to pick someone up from northern OH if it doesn't get too low too quickly (esp. down there).

I sent you and him a PM. He's in Middletown, just north of Dayton. Probably further than you'd want to go from PTK. I was just hoping someone attending the flyin yesterday was still around Dayton.

Middletown is South of Dayton between Dayton and Cincinnati. That's why its called Middletown. ;)

Cheers

My bad, I plotted it on a map in a flight planner and mistook the Cinci Class B for Dayton!
