Mooney Ovation for sale

Here's an even better idea. Fly it to Lakeland and stake out a parking spot for next year's show. Then fly it to Reno and put a sign in the window. Lots of rich pilots show up there. Then follow the air-show circuit for a couple of months, somebody is sure to buy it.

Don't tell Laurie...

Note that I said "might."

And it's a single-engine fixed wing, not single-engine rotorcraft. Bell 412 or better if I'm going whirlybird.

Oooh... I hadn't thought of Reno.

Bump... Links updated. Price was reduced again. Just a hair over 1300 TTAFE now. Reiff engine preheater was installed recently, and there's now a set of custom cowl plugs in the package as well.

Still flying regularly, heading to northwest Arkansas this week if anyone down that way wants to have a look...

Better hope it doesn't sell before the April Caribbean trip!

I could always take the 182.

VERY nice airplane. It kind of sounds like you don't really want to sell it which is completely understandable (I wouldn't either). Of course IF you do want to sell an otherwise very nice airplane, it comes down to one thing.

I do want to sell it - But assuming your "one thing" is price, it's not worth marking down $50K just to sell it a month or three faster (and yes, I've had offers that low). Until recently, it's been the least expensive Ovation on the market, right now there's one for sale for $25K less, but it's got hail damage. Ad says "sale pending - under contract" now, so I guess someone got a bargain and doesn't mind the damage.

This one, however, has always been hangared and is in great shape... And reasonable offers are considered.

All of the following done with respect and if this is out of line I apologize in advance. Looking at Mooney's in the $160ish price range. Here are a couple I would look at ahead of yours just based on equipment vs. price:

http://www.controller.com/listingsd...-OVATION/1999-MOONEY-M20R-OVATION/1267667.htm

This statement in the ad raises red flags to me:

This airplane was marketed as a M20S Eagle. However, It was issued an M20R Airworthiness. This pristine Mooney is essentially an Ovation with an Eagle price.

It looks to me like it was an Eagle that was given "Screamin' Eagle" upgrade. (The Eagle is a long-body Mooney, same basic airframe as the Ovation, but only came with a 200hp engine. The Ovation, Bravo, and Acclaim are all 280hp.)

Also, the autopilot is only an STEC 30. (Altitude hold only, etc) The KFC 150 in the bird I'm selling is much more capable (preselect, fully coupled approaches, etc), and has a flight director.

It has no built-in oxygen system.

And it has higher time.

And it has at least one compression that's worrisomely low.

And it's due for annual next month.

And it says "See FAA 337 for History 8-9-2001". History - damage history, I think.

Recent paint job is a red to me, too. You don't just blow all the money to paint a plane and then sell it - Could be trying to cover something up. (I actually doubt this since they at least mention some of the other things, but it's worth being careful).

It says "430 WAAS" but there is no 430 in the panel picture - That's the same KLN 89B setup that's in the one I'm selling. That means that the pictures either aren't current or the airplane isn't as represented in the ad.

No engine monitor. No DME, no ADF.

It's a nice plane, no doubt, and appears to have some nice stuff. However, there's a much bigger difference between the two when you look beyond the model year, paint job and supposed 430W. I think that both airplanes, if the other one is as represented and the potential gotchas I noted above don't bite the new owner, are fairly priced.

That one is a lot closer in terms of equipment. In fact, the two are almost identical, with the following exceptions that I noted at first glance:

* It doesn't have the flight director. (This may not sound like much, but I didn't know what I was missing until I flew with it. SO nice!)

* It doesn't have prop de-ice.

* It appears to have the altitude-hold-only version of the autopilot - No preselect, vertical speed, or fully coupled approaches.

* It does have a KLN-94 instead of KLN-89B GPS.

* It does have air conditioning. I'm not too familiar with the system, but it says on a placard that the AC is for cruise flight only. What good is that? Taxi is when you need it the most, followed by climb/descent. Cruise up where the air is cool and you don't need it anyway, not to mention the impact on the useful load. :dunno:

* It's slightly newer and has a few hundred less hours.

I think that plane is also fairly priced - The lower time and newness gives it an advantage, but the less-capable autopilot and a couple of other missing items are the downsides.

So again, I think all of the above are probably fairly priced airplanes. AC may be more important to some (though its limitation to cruise flight appears to severely limit its usefulness), while others may rather have the prop de-ice, engine preheater, flight director, etc.

Looks like you are close on price, but I wouldn't call it aggressively priced either. PLEASE no offense intended, it's just the lowly worthless internet opinion of one person. That said, I do know someone looking for this exact Mooney model I'll forward your link.

Please forward him to this thread too, so he doesn't dismiss it after a cursory glance. ;)

Hey Kent,

The bird you're selling looks great (well equipped, too). I happened to check back in on this thread sort of late in the game but based on the pictures of the airplane in the second link that you are talking about, it has a full KFC150 but just doesn't have the altitude pre-select box. The Mooney I used to fly had the same set up. It will fully couple on approach but you can only climb/descend in pitch mode and you have to manually level off (by selecting ALT) with the autopilot engaged. So essentially no vertical speed or altitude pre-select.

Making your airplane the "next to sell" in any market is simple. Price it that way.

The one in the second link has a KAP150, not a KFC150 - But after reading the manual, it appears that it will capture a glideslope. Still, not as nice as the KFC with the flight director, vertical speed, and altitude preselect. :)

It's advertised with a KAP150 but the pictures show a KFC150 installed.

I'm not trying to criticize but I would find out if he first one was for real before moving on. Then the second then yours. I only say that not because you might not have the best one, but because price being close I am going to try and get the really expensive upgrades like FIKI, or A/C before I look at ones without. Options like o2, autopilot, are easier to add or negotiate for.

Actually, I think the autopilot and FIKI are likely fairly close in price. Good autopilots are expen$$$$ive!!!

But again, it's up to each buyer to pick their poison. If the TKS is more important than the autopilot to you, that's OK - I'm not going to price this airplane such that your TKS upgrade is paid for, I'm gonna let you buy the plane that already has it and go with the buyer that doesn't care about TKS but does want the flight director, altitude preselect, oxygen, engine monitor, or any of the numerous other different things that the plane I'm selling has that the ones you linked to don't.

Likewise, if you were selling the TKS-equipped plane, I wouldn't expect you to lower your price far enough for me to go and add a KFC150, oxygen, and an engine monitor. So - Buy the plane you want. If it's not the one I'm selling, I'm OK with that - This is the right plane for someone. :)

I think Kent kinda solicited Alex's opinion on the price:

I wouldn't say I solicited his opinion, but I did decide not to make an issue of it for the sake of having the conversation - There's more to the price of a plane than whether or not it has a new paint job or something by Garmin in the panel. (Which this one does - Unfortunately, it's the transponder.)

The MC contacted me asking if it was OK to leave these posts up and I said that as long as the discussion remains positive, I'm OK with it for now.

I think the discussion has mostly concluded though... (See post 59.)

I could always take the 182.

Nobody seems to care about quality or condition, just getting a rock bottom price. They'll buy a $20k plane that's junk and will need $60k in the next 2 years rather than pay $50k for a plane that's in great shape. I just don't get the logic.:dunno:

While some folks do that, by and large the people I see buying airplanes are looking for good and cheap, figuring the depressed market makes that possible.

Rather than continue any controversy, I deleted my post. I can't change the embedded ones, but the owners/MC's can. That really would have been the simplest thing from the beginning vs. a lot of public discussion.

Once again no offense intended and my apologies if that's how it came across.

I'm in Florida and will have the plane at Sun 'n' Fun this week (except Sunday, when I'll be heading home). Any buyers in the area, please advise - Text or call 414.305.2447.

Once again had it up at 16,000 the other day to top some weather on the way back from the Bahamas. Up there it was getting 160 KTAS at 8.9 gph. !!!

I wish someone would buy that plane because I am eating my heart out wishing I could.

Kent,

So sorry, I thought the Ovation had sold. I removed your flyer from the b board at MGY.

If you want to email one to me I will print and repost it. There had been one tab removed.

Tim

Gotta love Mooneys. Your late uncle's specimen is a nice one. I used to have a 1998 Encore that was almost identically equipped.

Have you joined MooneySpace? That would be a good place to post your ad and any questions you might have for fellow Mooney drivers.

Good luck!

Don't you get it? Kent doesn't really want to sell it. That's why he flew to the Bahamas and Sun n Fun. That damn "for sale" sign keeps falling off the windscreen and into the side pocket. But he's going to keep flying it around the country to make sure no once can really track him down. :D:lol:

Cool! And you've clearly kept the Mooney faith with your Acclaim as well. You get bonus points for being efficient AND going fast as hell. :D

I tried, but my account never got approved for some reason. :dunno: I am a member of MAPA and participate in their email list, which is good. I recently discovered that this plane is actually a 1997 - The '97 Ovations started at S/N 29-0096 and this one is 29-0101. Dunno if that has anything to do with the tail number (97ST) or not. :dunno:

Good luck!

Thanks! And if you decide you're tired of all those pesky knobs, buttons, and screens in your panel or those extra 70 knots, I'd be happy to trade it for yours straight up. ;)

Yeah, I really thought it was gonna! A deal isn't necessarily out of the question with that buyer yet, but I'm not going to skip out on finding other potential buyers either.

I'll attach a PDF of the ad below - Anyone who can help me out and put a printout of this at their local airport, it'd be much appreciated! Thanks!

Kent, if you want, I can repost your ad on Mooneyspace on your behalf. Like others, your plane would be a dream to own but is out of my reach. :)

His ads don't disclose that it only had 400TTAF when he started "trying to sell it" for a dearly-beloved family member. I could have sold the entire Citation and King Air fleet in less time.:D

LOL! You'll be back slumming it with us once that thing sells. :)

It'll be at TBO when it finally has to go.

We're all on to you, Kent.

And here I thought that: Mooney97st.wordpress.com in your ad was yet another attempt at not selling the plane, because it didn't include an "@" sign. But you got me - it's a web address that works, not a fake email address. :D

Yeah, but it's not very informative!

Good point. :D

I thought the phone number would be something subliminal, like (414) DONT-BUY.
