OK, so hypothetically you have a maximum of $250K (does not mean mean you have to spend it all), and you might decide to use some of it to upgrade a purchase (say better avionics).

What is your choice of the three I am listing? Of course there are so many additional, but this is my list/poll :goofy:

Let's have your thoughts.

What is your mission, I have an early 80s 182 and love it, but a 210 is faster but more expensive to keep. A 22 is also faster but doesn't have a flat rear floor or the STOL ability of the Cessna

If you wanna haul people and/or stuff, the 210 is a great choice. Otherwise, pick what you like.

Hate to say it, but I like the SR22 most out of those three. Nice interior/avionics, not a big fan of the way the 182 and 210 fly, and also not a big fan of the Cessna single retract gear design.

But we also all know that I wouldn't buy any of the listed options. ;)

Mission ??:dunno::dunno:

No mission is eminent

My goal is to be able to tool around the SE United States and Bahamian Islands. (I have no problem over water with one engine)

I know that the speed and "updated avionics" are a trade off against the hauling capacity of the 182, while the 210 has the speed and the hauling capability, but at a higher cost both per hour and annual time. Plus the 210 is complex with gear, as opposed to the fixed of the 182 and 210

Given your desire to visit the shorter strips (that was you wasn't it?) I would NOT buy a Cirrus product. They are perfectly fine for the typical GA airport but are not good STOL machines by any means.

Oh and if you are going to be loaded a 210 might benefit from a STOL kit for 1200' strips, it has a different airfoil than the 182.

That twas me :)

Sounds like a plan to me.

I love these mental masturbation games spam can drivers play.

"Whats better a 172r or 172d".

Is this Pilot's Of America or ******* of America?:rofl::rofl:

A 172 is a good airplane for learning to fly and mine served me well, and there ARE some minor differences between the various flavors of 172, but not enough to make a huge difference.

Why limit the 182 to early 80's? For $250K you can get a newer 182 of the same vintage as the SR-22.

Certainly, it is a good airplane. Is it worth discussing the differences between models that have had little change? :mad2:

A 182, 210, and Cirrus SR-22 are not even in the same league, yet the OP wants to discuss. These threads are ridiculous mental exercises over planes that have nothing in common except mediocrity.

Mediocre vs. what, a Citation? Those aircraft are some of the most popular ever produced. You don't get that kind of history with something that doesn't work well for a given mission.

So all those popular honda civics are special? Mediocre but sufficient is accurate description of those planes. We aren't impressed by regular cars why should we beimpressed with regular planes?

I guess it's perspective, I have more respect for a Honda Civic than a Mercedes. I have owned both new and all of the Mercedes I've had were POS. Mercedes had 8X the money to work with as well. Honda can produce a uber-relaible, long lasting car for under $20K that some kid can modify and take to a road course or drag strip. They also hold their value better as a percentage of purchase price than anything on the road.

Quite a feat of engineering IMO.

Paint jobs!!! How many 182s do you see with invasion stripes???? Duhhh. :D

....

Bring on the Honda Jet....

@ Skidoo

I'm fine with an 80's 182, no need to spend more to get more there, I'd be inclined to power it up and add the avionics I want

Same idea behind a 210

@ Geico

If you don't like my choices, fine, but let it go!!!!!

So say the magic words...."RV10!"

I believe we've covered this in a prior string...some of us are getting kinna tired of condescention. Ridiculous is in the eye of the beholder, after all.

Like the 200 knot thread with FIKI: "RV10!!!"
sigh.

For a quarter mil and the stated mission, the best choice ain't on the list. Bonanza, hands down. Stout gear, fast, efficient, plus you look really good.

@marco

The SF50 looks sweet, but its WELL outta the $250K limit :)

I would agree but I don't want to become "that guy". :D

That's ok, guilty as charged! :goofy:

(Gotta tell the truth, y'know).

The OP might also consider adding the Saratoga to the list.

Yes indeed, it's hard to determine which picture conveys the most virile image. Some think it's the one when your big ass is sliding down the door-post into the pax seat before scrooching over into the king's chair, but other s argue that the belly-roll over onto the wing walk when exiting really is the one that really impresses the girls.

It all looks kool... Till a Beech part needs replacing...

For instance... A based KA is sitting in the shop waiting for a blower motor assembly that circulates air in the cabin... The old one is sitting in a box on the office floor.. it looks VERY similar to any automotive unit and the KA blower was just replaced last year.... So the conversation switches to "guess how much that small fan costs"... I estimate, based on aircraft , out of this world, pricing... Hmmm 4,300 and I figured I was over by 100%...... Parts guy pulls out the invoice.... 56,400.00..:hairraise::hairraise::yikes::yikes::hairraise::hairraise::eek:

The fan isn't the first thing the owner should replace.

You stated that any of us had $250K to spend, and then asked us what we would choose. But you limited our choice of a year model that still fit the budget. That did not seem to make sense.

You may be fine with an older model, but you did ask what we would choose. Sounds to me like you have already made up your mind...

For the type of flying I do I'd take a 22.

If I had to land on a lot of rough strips then it would most likely be a 210.

Why Wayne- I did not even know you *noticed* my ass (blush!). ;)
