It was great fun yesterday and it sounds like everyone is anxious to get the next one on the calendar.

When?

I flew to LLR yesterday with the family in tow, and probably flew right over you guys at 4500 in Class B. The weather was good, but not perfect. There was some turbulence until past Montara Mountain due to a 20 knot north wind at 3000 feet.

I might be interested in Shelter Cove or Columbia, or maybe Harris Ranch. WVI does have a new restaurant, but it's no better than OK, and that's just a trip around the pattern for me.

The SQL group seems interested in Lodi for some reason. Don't know why.

What about TVL or TRK? Camping (or motels) at L52?

We are still deciding on when. Go ahead and suggest a date. I have no interest in Lodi and Tahoe probably won't work for me in my Cherokee, unless it is a pretty cold day.

Your Cherokee can't handle a 7000 foot pass? Even on a hot day, that's no more than 10,000 density altitude.

I'd be more concerned about wind than temperature, even in a Warrior. There were 152s parked at TVL when I was there last.

I can and have handled the pass (so I guess Reno or Minden could be an option). Taking off from 6,000 I have done on a cold day with just me in the plane. I don't think I would be comfortable doing it with a passenger, though. I would think low hour pilots driving C150/2's or even 172's might not be comfortable, as well. If everyone wants to go there, I guess it is a pretty short drive for me, though and I could still make it.

I'm going to vote for Columbia. Little River would be my other first choice. Overnights are a tad tough for me to arrange.

Good point. On the overnight thing; some people mentioned they were interested in that, so I just indicated the sites where it is an option. The actual Flyin will be a one day event.

The weekend of March 23rd / 24th would be great - my wife and I will then be in California for skiing and flying and would love to participate in the flyin. :D

Cheers,

Oliver

You are here in the USA a lot! It is because of you I now fly with my new flight school and I did use the instructor you recommended for two checkouts (and I have flown with three of their instructors now).

Hi Kimberly!

Well, 'a lot' is a very relative expression - when we met was actually the last time Martina and I went to the US for vacation. This was 13 months ago. :wink2:

I read in one of your resent postings, that you are now also regularly renting from the Petaluma Pilot Training Center - I am glad you liked our recommendation. :)

We will arrive in SFO on Saturday, March 16. After a few days in South Lake Tahoe skiing, we will do the checkout with Peggy on March 21st. We booked the Cessna 172 96E until March 29.

After the 'end of vacation dinner' at the Stinking Rose :D restaurant in San Francisco we will fly back to Germany on March 30.

It would be great to meet you and / or some other fellow pilots while we are there.

Cheers,

Oliver

Someday, I plan to head to Columbia. Don't know yet if a fly-in timing will work for me. Maybe I'll get lucky for sometime this year...

It's nice if there isn't an event going on. I stumbled on the July 4 parade, and it was a total zoo. I went there again in October and it was much better.

The turf runway isn't likely to be usable for months, but of course the paved one is fine.

Ah, I did public voting this time and it doesn't look like Adam has voted, yet. Maybe he is waiting to see if he will be on the West for our Flyin?

Didn't want to skew the results as the trip is still a maybe. Well actually it will happen just not locked in to that weekend yet.

I don't think we have a date, yet. I am actually in your neck of the woods from the 19th to the 28th.

I saw someone posted March 23-24 so I thought that was the date.

Oliver suggested it and that might work. It is early in the process though. We need some more feedback. Are you saying this is a good date for you, too?

Edit, I am in PA from Feb 19 to Feb 28, so March is probably best for me, anyway.

I am arriving on March 24 but won't be able to make any kind of fly-in unless we do it at SFO. :D

Columbia willows los banos auburn all good for lunch and in most peoples range. Im ready to go next weekend. Lets fly heck nut tree!

John can't say yet and would not want anything planned based on my schedule. That date is a "possibility" but not locked yet.

Do you mean the weekend of the 16th? I could probably do a last minute trip on Sunday (this would not be the "thread" Flyin, but something additional). Los Banos wouldn't make my short list, though.

Edit; unless I have to fly my son back to Santa Barbara. He is coming in commercial on Friday for my birthday party on Saturday.

They all work for me pretty much, mostly a question of whether the timing would work. I voted for Watsonville because it says new diner, so I'd like to try it; been in all the others.

So, really, I am the only one who likes Monterey? Oh well. Hey Sac, what dates are you out of town?

If you're interested in Watsonville, they have a historical aircraft fly-in now on the second saturday of each month, so there are a bunch of cool planes that come by. Haven't been to restaurant yet but I hear good things so far. The only drag for me is that's where I fly out of so maybe I'll do some pattern work while everyone is arriving. :)

It looks like the votes are favoring Columbia, this round.

This sound like a viable option.
Now, do they allow on-site camping? :D

Yeah, just throw your bag up in one of the nacelles.

March 23rd would be pefect. My vote would be Monterey in that case. Any other date, I'd say Columbia. Securing a rental for the day seems to be the biggest challenge for me so knowing a few weeks to a month in advance works out great.

Thank, you, I don't feel so alone now in my vote.

It does look like it is going to be Columbia on March 23rd, though. Any feedback on this this date and location, before it is final?

Sure. Ever been to the baggage claim?

How about for less than an hour?

If we could camp out in the Cathay lounge, I'd be down for that!

(Except for the landing fee at SFO.)

Yeah, I was there this last Saturday at United Flight Services. Someone parked a cool very old biplane in front of the terminal. And a big fat single-pusher seaplane nearby.

Props is not bad, but I wouldn't call it any better than that. There is better stuff in town. It's convenient if you happen to be there, and it sure beats the Wonder Bread outlet across the street (and that disgusting Super Taqueria down Freedom).

Transient parking is a bit of a zoo with that fly-in going on. Someone even parked where I was supposed to return the 182 -- that's right next to transient parking, but it isn't transient parking. I had to leave it on the ramp in front of the UFS trailer.
