Flying around Texas in early October

You guys missed some great gumbo!

Thanks to all who showed up to have fun with us. I hope y'all had a good time. I'm working on making the place better each day. It'll get there soon. :)

The fire pit burned til late into the night. Diana, myself and another friend stayed out til quite late. It was a great night for a fire.

After cooking breakfast for her this morning, she headed out towards her next destination. It was great to meet you, Diana! Stop over any time.

Well, as it turns out, I would not have made it if I had tried. Went to fly Tommy to a college for a visit today, and right mag was no-workee.

Best to find out before leaving the home plate, seems to me.

Fly safe, Diana - and thanks for being the host with the most, Walt.

Diana, Thank you for a WONDERFUL visit! You are an amazing woman and it was so much fun to show you around my neck of the woods. We've got more exploring to do, so hurry back soon!!!

Joyce

Joyce

Did she get to shoot a gun?!?

I had some stuff ready for her to shoot, but we ended up riding around and talking too much :) We'll definitely do that next time :)

Glad to hear that she's still having a great time. I have a feeling that Diana will make friends wherever she lights... ;)

Joyce, thank you! :) I loved spending time with you! What fun! Exploring was a blast! Can't wait to fly back down to spend time with you! And anytime you can get away, please come see us at the farm!

BTW, I wonder if anyone at your airport wondered where the heck I was taxiing as I headed north to nowhere? :D

You guys missed some great gumbo!
 And Joyce was kind enough to wash my jeans when I got to her ranch. :D

What a GREAT airport you have, Walt. It feels good to be there. It is such a labor of love for you.

Oh, and thanks for the ride!

It WAS a great night for a fire. I took lots of pictures and will post some of them tomorrow.

Thank you soooo much for inviting me, and for taking such good care of me when I was there. You are a wonderful chef!

Now that you know how close we are to people that you visit in the area, maybe you will come see us sometime, and stay with us. :)

Glad to hear that she's still having a great time. I have a feeling that Diana will make friends wherever she lights... ;)
Awww. :)

Yep, that's her. 120 words a minute with gusts to 180, IIRC.

BTW, Joyce, I got beat to a pulp in the Ouachitas. The clouds got lower for a bit, too. Lots of 0G to 2G bumps. But, I landed with lots of fuel left. :)

We had way too much fun and I am just glad that you got home safe and sound! We will definitely do some shooting and more riding around the next time you come down. I can't wait :)

Maybe next time, if we have time, we could fly low and slow over your ranch and look for good places for your new runway.

Ok... so where are you now in your journey?
I decided to postpone the rest of the trip because I need to take care of some family issues. But, next time I head down your way to continue on the rest of my trip, I hope to stop and say "Hi!" again. :)

I really don't know how Wayne comes up with this stuff, but he cracks me up. :D

Now that I'm back home again, I've had time to look through more of my photos and came across this one. Walt was landing to the north in this shot.

Yup. That's the end of runway 36. Hope to get rid of those trees one day...

:)

We'll leave the light on. The key is in the fake rock next to the talking frog.

Nope. She said she would be in town but then left early for Midland. I'm sure I got BBD'd by some Rayban-wearin' slick-talkin' bomber dude. Story of my life.

Thanks! :D

Did Kim stop by to see you on her travels to TX?

Oh, my. :D

I was showing my mom how to use an iPhone the other day since she will be switching to an iPhone and she noticed an interesting name on my contact list. She asked: "Who is Wayne Studmuffin Bower?" ;)

And I'm sure the obvious answer was "a legend in his own mind."

I love that expression! I've heard my CFI use it a few times on people in the pattern who speak at lightning speed, but I had totally forgotten about it. It's going back in the arsenal :)

Okay, now that it's time to plan to keep going on my Texas and Oklahoma grass tour, it looks like I'll head south again in April. After all the grief that we had to deal with last fall (the reason I cut my trip short), it will be nice to get back on track and fly to see good people, and grass strips again.

Excellent!! Does that mean we get another cookout at Walt's place?

Walt's easy, he'll cook for anybody. I try to go whenever he does so I can brag on him lest he think about quitting.

Good news, Diana. I guess that means you and Tom are doing okay now. I'm glad to hear that!

Glad to hear that you're going to continue your trip, Diana. Stop by if you get the chance. I will have another cookout and we'll party down!

...waiting lines to see the electric toilet! :goofy:

I hope so! Is it okay if we invite ourselves? :D

He IS a good cook. He's good at breakfast, too.

Things are MUCH better now, Stacey. Thanks. :)

He is in cardiac rehab now...everyone marvels at how healthy he is and how well he's doing. His 24-hour Holter monitor shows normal sinus rhythm without a pacemaker, so it looks like he won't need another one put back in. We are cautiously optimistic about that.

Party time! :D I'll bring something. :)

I'll try it after you and Wayne do it first. ;) If I have control of the remote. ;)

We've already established that Wayne and Walt do not trust me to pee straight.

As to how they'd know one way or the other, well, I am just trying not to think about it! :dunno: :yikes:
